I am prepared to make a great deal of concessions for this game if it gives me a G36C, a suppressed M9, some C4, and lets someone airdrop me and my bros behind enemy lines.
Also kills should give you the absolute least amount of points out of all things that can earn you points.
This pretty much had me at prone. I've greatly enjoyed Bad Company 2, but there's no question in my mind that it's a few steps backwards from BF2 in a few areas, and being able to go down on my belly is one of those areas.
Dolphin diving was so over rated anyways, I mean you are still just as easy to hit and you are making it harder to aim for yourself. I never had a problem with it, but that is probably because I never considered it a problem, and didn't immediately stop playing to type "dlphing diving fuck head" every time I saw someone doing it. I am glad they got rid of it but people way over reacted to it.

Prone is retarded, and I say this as a fan of not only BF2 but also of both Modern Warfares.

You are all insane. Prone was awesome. If only for commander bumping.
It's like none of you even played BF2!
Yeah, going prone saved my ass so many fucking times in BF2 and BF2142. Nothing like going prone at the edge of the street once bullets start flying and shit starts blowing up to have the fucking curb save you.
See the thing that made BF2 great, and as good as 1942 in my book, was that like its predecessor it carried over the semi-bugs that weren't exploits but were manipulations of the game in incredibly inventive ways. Yes it took out the realism tremendously but it also gave the games a sense of invention, of being a little more about player imagination than muscle memory. Things like wing walking, dolphin diving, dolphin c4, AT curving and loopzooking are things that I think modern games (Bad Company for example) remove because they aren't 'proper' or 'fair' or some other bullshit. But that's what gave BF2 its flavour and why I enjoyed it so much.
I haven't really missed prone in BC2 but I don't mind it's return. My first death when I returned to BF2 (two weeks or so ago) was by a dolphin river though.
I will wait and see if this game handles well. There was a real feeling of disconnect in the action in BF:BC2 which I could never really get over, although pegging motherfuckers in the head with the M14 erry day kind of made up for that.
EDIT also the worst net code since the previous DICE offering hurr durr

Bad Company 2 is objectively bad but it does have some golden moments where it harkens back to vintage Battlefield.

I dunno, I've had quite a few golden moments in that "objectively bad" game.
It's better than [strike]Vista[/strike] Black Ops.
You know, I've been wondering about that. I doubt that even half of the BC2 thread enjoy the game, while the BLOPS thread is people actually having fun with their game.

Well, the three times I've gotten to play BC2, I've enjoyed myself immensely. You know, when the game is actually letting me connect to servers.

Eh not really, I've seen a fair share of people on the BLOPS thread that aren't content at all. Also BC2 is a year old, BLOPS still has that new smell to it.
And we can't forget about people who can't shut up about how BC2 sucks because it isn't BF2.
This thread is stupid and I no longer care for it.
Different strokes for different folks.
You guys should really go and play BF2 again. Its really not that great. I mean, its good dont get me wrong, but its not the be all end all of Battlefield games.
I thoroughly enjoyed BF2 when it came out, and Ive thoroughly enjoyed BC2 since I bought it (Steam Christmas sale).
Also, the lack of talk of Battlefield: Vietnam concerns me. How can one ignore the greatness that is the game that introduced Surfin Bird to a new generation?
If the new BF game tightens up the "feel" of the game and stops the loose feeling controls, I'm all for it. BC2 was great when I had rock-solid latency. As soon as my latency climbed above 60-70 though, I started getting issues where I'd teleport a few feet every now and then, especially when standing on rubble.
It got worse when you were moving at speed in a helicopter or an ATV. Which is a shame because I love me some helicopter piloting.
I think there's some real gold in the BF series, but they need to tighten shit up with some Quake 3 level netcode at this point. It's inexcusible to deliver shoddy netcode in the year of our lord two thousand and fucking eleven in a multiplayer shooter. Yes we've seen it consistently in projects cross-developed on consoles, and no I don't really want to debate that, but fucking hell come on. If it's a choice between purchasing BF3 or continuing to enjoy Team Fortress 2 with its tight controls and netcode, I'll let my wallet continue to remain parked.
No it's terrible. Well, not totally hopeless because there's some meat on those bones. But it has atrocious performance on PC, enemies are bullet sponges to a degree not seen in arcade shooters, bullet drop was a dumb, stupid idea and poorly implemented, the destruction 2.0 stuff is hit and miss, in that some buildings you expect to be destructible are not and some are impervious to damage altogether, the netcode is a warcrime and DICE should be sent to The Hague, the vehicles range from grotesquely overpowered (blackhawk, tanks) to pointless and actually hazardous (hind, all APCs), not to mention they are all made utterly obsolete by three kinds of homing launcher, which have been patched twice to make them easier to use when they were offensively easy in the first place, the maps are mediocre to terrible (for example, on isla innocentes the wookiee hill, or the same one on port valdez), the weapons themselves are all pointless when the medic LMGs are orders of magnitude more useful than anything else, even post patch neft, smoke doesn't work, grenades don't work, knifing someone still hasn't been fixed, spotting doesn't work, sniping is useless and actually weakens your own team, any class other than engineer has major weaknesses and imbalances, the levelling system promotes narrow, focused play rather than allowing a broad range of play styles, in that you are rewarded more for sticking with one gun for a longer period, and the points system actively promotes individual play and lone wolfing, which in a team game is dumb, not to mention there is not a single aspect of Bad Company 2 that is superior to Battlefield 2, other than the visuals. The additions they made to the game, along with the streamlining and smoothing of the mechanics for console play, have harmed the game and washed it down to a sort of milky, pale ooze of mediocrity.

It's funny, I thought you said "objectively" bad but I think you meant "subjectively".

They fixed that with a patch a number of years ago.
Resorting to crouch only certainly is.
light press : crouch
hard press : prone
and instead have to resort to this one key to go down, another key to go down lower malarkey.
