The steam voice chat got a haul-over a little while ago, I wonder how it performs now. One thing that's been fixed is that you can finally output the voice chat on a different device (like a headset) than the in-game audio. That used to be the deal breaker for me.
I really am wondering if they're putting in Rush Mode alongside the classic Conquest. I reaaaaaaaaaaaally want to play Rush on a team of thirty two people in a huge urban map with millions of angles and methods of attack. Of course, the only one I'll ever use is ploughing straight through the middle with a grenade launcher, throwing grenades and hollering "REVIVE ME" and "AMMO" over Vent constantly.
Hey, if I have just one squad backing me up, that leaves seven others to do the flanking and being actually useful. I'm the loudest and proudest distraction around, because I just fucking love crushing faces with little metal balls fired at high velocity.

Is there really any other way to play?

And now Im dropping the PA tag for the [DWI] tag.
Really though I try to play nice with the squad (I drop ammo/health/revives like a mother fucker, but if theyre intent on doing something stupid and Im more useful taking out 10 dudes then I'll take out the 10 dudes.
This is the first game I am considering buying a new PC for in about 3 years...
I will be relying heavily on your good poeple for advice on building one...
what would be your budget?
Ugh, to be perfectly honest I am not 100% positive at the moment. Couple things to get out of the way before we delve in to all of this:
I am literally starting from scratch (not even a monitor, I currently have a laptop)
I am in Canada, so none of the awesome discount sites you mention apply to me without paying a kings ransom for shipping (as far as I know)
I am so out of touch with PC hardware, I have no idea what is even good or not (haven't owned a desktop in 5-6 years)
So I have trouble figuring a budget even to start with due to my very limited knowledge of PC hardware. I once built a very decent gaming puter for around $700 back in the day but I don't know how far I can get with that money currently.
If anyone could throw out some suggestions to get me started, that would be fantastic.

$700 CDN might not get you quite as far as $700 US, but you'll still be able to build a capable rig for that price. My suggestion would be to get a monitor with a screen resolution of 1680x1050 or smaller, that way you're not sacrificing too much visual performance getting a more affordable graphics card.
As for there being "no good discount sites", I believe Newegg.ca would like to have a word with you ;-)
with a copy of Win 7 Home is about $730 CDN. Only thing it's missing is a good set of speakers/headphones, and keyboard/mouse, and that would be a fairly capable machine. You can back down from there and decide what you're willing to live with if you want to go cheaper (ie less video card, or a slower CPU). This is just an example, and in no way an actual suggestion about what parts would be the best for your limited funds.
Now your other option is to pick up second hand parts for a lot cheaper, though you are risking getting a bad part with no warranty to save a few extra bucks.
We might want to take this into the Computer Build thread, which is now back (and stickied) in Moe's.
God bless both your souls - I had no idea Newegg had a Canadian counterpart!
I would say spending around $1000 is what I am looking for. I will chekc out the options you both provided, but I think a visit to that thread you mentioned is in order.

I need to re-educate myself!
If youre willing to spend $1000, get an i7 or at least an i5.
I spent about $1000 on the machine I have right now, a pre-built from a retail store, and it was actually pretty good, and in Canada too!
Although the same machine costs $700 just across the border in the US. Even with the conversion that's still a big difference.
Fake Edit: I bought it from Future Shop, and it came with a Keyboard and Mouse, no monitor. If you're patient and know what you're doing, you can build a awesome machine for even less. I didn't go that route because I didn't really know what I was doing myself.
Our goal with the BC2 flight mechanics was to create an easy to pickup and fly flight model. We did just that and thus I feel like we succeeded. We achieved what we set out to create, and it was well received by many players who previously could not have a flying experience in Battlefield.
The flight physics are actually a great example of why BF3 is a sequel to BF2 and part of the Core Battlefield Franchise. The prevailing design philosophy of the Battlefield Core has always been Easy to Use, Difficult to Master. Bad Company had greater emphasis on Easy To Use. We're approaching BF3 with an emphasis on Difficult to Master, and that Design Philosophy is prevalent throughout all parts of BF3. I've learned a lot from working on Bad Company, I'm convinced it's possible to maintain the incredibly deep game play of Battlefield without putting off new gamers. And it's incredibly important we keep that depth.
Also confirmed was that you have to land completely to refuel and rearm, instead of flying over the airfield/carrier to get resupplied. More chance to crash, more chance for enemy players to kill you while on the ground, and it means supply lines have to be kept open. Fucking awesome.

See I can get behind that. Rewarding sneaky play and demanding competent piloting skills. Sort of like how planting mines outside the entrance to the spawns on the big conquest maps was a great way to rack up some free vehicle kills.

Primary weapon is Carl Gustav, secondary weapon is Carl Gustav Jr, special weapon is mines for throwing at MCOMs (naturally). Class tool is a pair of sunglasses that descend onto your face from above slowly, during every killcam

I will never forget seeing a shirtless man marshalling out an F16 with pink streamers on his wrists. This is while a general was there (think he just took off actually) and our captain was watching the whole thing, some people were pretty upset to say the least.
Intel® Core™ i7-2600 processor(8MB Cache, 3.4GHz)
ATI Radeon HD 5770 1024MB GDDR5
8GB DDR3 SDRAM at 1333MHz - 4 DIMMs
I am putting this together. 5770 for now because I hear it has a great bang:buck ratio much like my former love the 8800GT. I might spring for a 580GTX in future
About a year and a half ago I bought my computer
Phenom II X4 940 BE OCed to 3.8ghz
4 gig ram (might upgrade eventually)
Radeon 4890
Not quite top of the line when I got it, but 90 percent there and half the price so it was a good deal. It had trouble running games on max settings when I got it, PC gaming is expensive
In BF2 the pro way to fly a helicopter was KBAM though, mouse was hard for jets but definitely possible even at a high level I knew a few guys who would use a mouse sometimes.
it would be better to have 2 dimms of 4gb but if it's way more expensive then it doesn't really matter
I am having a friend help me build this and we had like 900 tabs open looking at stuff but I think it was this, using my limited knowledge of this stuff and memory.
I honestly haven't tried a joystick or gamepad with BC2 choppers yet. You need so much precision to not crash after ramming headlong into a friendly chopper midair.

Should do the trick for a few good years right?
I was looking at upgrades for the 8800GT myself, the 560 is pretty tight for the buck right now, you can't really go wrong at nearly half the price, too. If not the 460 isn't a bad option either.
Masume on

i'm assuming since you said 8 gigs you would get 2 of those
also if you're getting a 2600 you'd probably be using ddr3
try these 2
So ordered a new PC today. i5 Sandybridge with a Geforce 560 Ti. So should be ready for BF3 and hopefully anything else for at least 3 maybe 4 years. Next question would be if 3Mbs DSL will suffice on it.

Yeah, for $1000, you can get a heck of a machine. For that matter, you can even get a half-way decent commodity PC (not that I'd recommend that ;-))
Although the same machine costs $700 just across the border in the US. Even with the conversion that's still a big difference.

Thats a lie, I will play games again but I will be upset at the lack of the BF3 helo.
Excellent news.
Mines on the runway anyone?
Do we get the glowy sticks? This is important information for which class I'll pick!

But does it have rave girls? And do they have realistic physics? :winky:
Only for night time operations, you also get a reflective vest so the airplane doesn't run you over.
Instead of medpacks they hand out E and water bottles.

Too bad some pro pilot with KBAM will bunny-hop into the jet just before you and expertly fly out of bounds
