The only thing I want back is Commander. Playing an FPS and not actually shooting anyone sounds like the most boring thing ever but when you were telling one squad that a flag was under attack while UAVing a second squad defending a building and also trying to sneak in a supply drop to a third squad trying to cross a water ford unnoticed was extremely tense and exciting.

sounds like those people need a dose of Natural Selection
I played the BF2 demo for a bit and shot down an F35 with my AT rocket. It was flying directly at me for some reason and I waited until it was like 30 feet away to unleash it. So satisfying to see that burning fuselage fly over my head and crash into the ground.
Hitting jets with rockets is one of the hardest things to do in the game, I think I have only done it once to a full speed jet and I played AT the majority of my time. I was actually top 5 or so for AT leaderboards for a while.
It is terrible on the xbox, basically every map with a helicopter turns into one helicopter camping the other team until the game ends, it is fucking idiotic and I can only assume DICE abandoned the game.

Uh, not really.
Just play three games, all played out exactly like that on the desert map (can't remember names) and I know I forced this to happen all the time on the demo level as a defender. It is just too hard to stop a helicopter.

They were harder to deal with then, but ever since the tracer speed was cranked up I could swat Apaches and Blackhawks all day. RPGs will tear them a new one, and the AT-4 is quite usable when they make strafing runs.
Helicopters shouldn't strafe, just circle strafe. I didn't notice a speed increase with the tracer dart, I remember there was one a while ago, have they done it again? I also use to play from Korea so I was usually pretty laggy, although the netcode is quite good for that.
I find a major problem with the AT-4 is that it's a fairly slow projectile compared to the CG, and thus you really have to lead your target quite a bit and THEN guide the round into the target.
Well that is obviously on the PC, impressive but still not as cool as BF2 :P
Let me see if I can find some videos, maybe even me.
Well I doubt I will find any, all the ones I have seen so far are people playing against really bad players or just using the AT to kill infantry like it is some sort of novelty. Hint, everyone did that so you couldn't revive and forced the use of a ticket.
I just remember some of the most epic fights I have had in Battlefield games were a squad of us pinned down in a building defending an objective. Everyone working together, commander dropping scans and supplies, it was perfect and so much fun. I would just really like to see an emphasis on squad cohesion and combat. 5 man squad sounds about right, hell I think it would be perfect if you could ONLY capture points with at least half the squad there, maybe neutralize it with one but you need your squad for the rest. That might force people to stick together more.
5 man squads wouldn't make any sense if they were going with a 24/64 player cap. Probably be squads of 4 like it is in BC2. Especially since there are four classes.
We should all play some BF2. Project Reality, maybe?
I adored PR. Such a great mod.

I think one of the issues with helicopters in BC2 is that they're largely immune to bullets. LMGs can hurt them and so can the M95, but the fact is that most air vehicles are extremely vulnerable to small-arms ground fire. Whereas a main battle tank is 70 tons of sophisticated armor with practically every vulnerable point shielded, an air vehicle is largely a lightly-armored frame wrapped around an engine. A little chunk of metal in the wrong spot leads to catastrophic, exploding, burning failure of something or other.
To an extent, it's a good thing that the BC2 choppers don't reflect their real-world vulnerability. The heights they have to fly at would mean getting shredded in seconds since it would only take a couple of lucky hits to actually bring them down. However, if jets are made vulnerable to massed fire and aren't allowed to fly at stupidly high altitudes, then jet domination won't be an issue. For BC2, a couple of medics can make mincemeat out of a transport chopper at fairly close range. Even if the same ability is limited to simply whichever class has the LMGs and jets are properly vulnerable to bullets, then that could help a lot with nigh-invulnerable jets.
Another simpler option would be AA weapons which work via shrapnel rather than direct hits. Being able to remote-detonate something like the AT4 would mean near-misses could be damaging rather than useless. Different AA rockets could have different effects, i.e., one could have a cone of shrapnel for more damage while another would have a burst for a greater chance to hit.
I had Battlefield 1942 but I never really understood the game. Did anyone actually like manning the artillery guns (the immobile variety)?
I don't recall immobile artillery guns, unless you mean AAA. There were the naval guns, but they were only really meant to be used when you saw a ship coming and went for it.

Yeah but having 1 anti tank is fucking worthless most of the time, you really need two to take down a tank especially if they don't make them paper thin.
I wonder if anyone will ever steal FLF's system of getting buffs from being within a certain radius of your team mates. change that to only squad mates and you should have a decent way to encourage teamwork

Isn't it kind of all or nothing or else 16 players would be randomly kicked on map changes?
I didn't think about that. I guess it's probably stuck at 64. Wishful thinking on my part, I guess. I really wanted to see some huge huge battles.

Yes, they were actually quite a lot of fun I forgot all about those.
Cause that was the bestest, actually I think I'm going to reinstall BF 1942 now..

Oh, man. I loved those things. If I remember correctly, the battleship guns worked the same way.
And there was a weird, lone submarine on a couple of the maps. I used to get in that and just putt around, not really participating in the battle.
We're never going to top 1942, are we?
Uh, not really.

Also, just because making strafing runs without a gunner is a bad idea doesn't mean people won't do it.
Same guy.

BC2 is pretty great, BC2:Vietnam is rape or be raped.
I think we need more Vietnam games though, as BF: Vietnam was pretty great.
I just reinstalled BF2, maybe I should reinstall BF:V as well...
Road to Rome expansion had submarines.
Vanilla had battleships and submarines, although they might have only been added in a later patch.

Not even close (unless you count the desert combat mod for 42, which was better than vanilla).
