Really? Could you go a bit more into detail, name some examples?
Of course most of the footage was in third person, which makes it a bit harder to judge how it'll look from the characters point of view, but the executions, spells and even the first-person charge-attack seemed to be pretty nicely animated. Nothing ground-breaking, but more then I'd hoped for actually.
Its better. No question. It still feels a bit off though. More the main chars animation.
Its too early to make a judgment on that anyway. Maybe some parts were even sped up for the trailer which gave me that impression.
Yes, you're right with the sped-up segments. I just wanted to point out that the bits that were clearly visible seemed at least decent, and that was more then I expected; I expected a tiny improvement over Oblivion, this is - in my opinion - a huge improvement.
Now, if they've put just the same amount of effort into balancing skills, the combat, the leveling system, sneaking and just about everything I left out, then it's more then worth it. Of course, modding tools should be easy enough to work with.
Honestly, if they pull it off right they're setting the ground for two or three expansion packs packing new features and polished content. This in addition to a huge modding community could make this game last quite some time.
Has Bethesda commented at all about the obnoxious system where NPC's have a total of 2 different voices for everybody and they say the exact same unnatural dialogue over and over again?
How about aggro, especially with regards to Imperial Guards?

So according to Nick Breckon, all the dragon stuff in the trailer happens dynamically in-game.
I am now waiting for the inevitable slew of movies, comics and jokes about Viking warriors overcoming dragons by screaming at them while their companions rock out on electric guitars or appropriate period instruments.

Well, we have something to look forward to with regard to player mods.

A man yells at a dragon so hard that an orchestra and a choir of throaty bearded men with axes launch into a song that has probably already caused me permanent hearing loss and I've only had it on repeat for eight minutes.
Man the dragonspeak yell acting as the music que is so fucking badass, can't stop watching it.
I'm actually pretty sure he screams "Du ska dö!" (You will die!) when he casts that magic. Have they said that it is supposed to be inspired by Scandinavian languages? I vaguely recall them saying something on the matter but can't remember what. Or maybe I'm just imagining it, both me and a friend hear it though.
You are correct, Skyrim is not a historical simulation.
Well, snark all you want but Conan with snow and fucked up rock formations isn't really a decent way to make a game that is designed to look very much like medieval scandinavia.
The northern town in Oblivion was pretty spot on though.
And the art style in Skyrim is fantastic, I just love that.
Okay if we're resorting to pedantry maybe "inspired by" is a more accurate phrase.
Wrath of the Lich King was also "inspired" by medieval Viking and Nordic culture, and Bethesda and Blizzard took away a lot of the same things. Particularly in basically everything having to do with the Vrykul. Northrend is basically Skyrim.
Ah yes, "medieval Scandinavia", that geographically homogeneous area and time
I think it'd be more accurate to say that this is the Elder Scrolls version of fictional Scandinavia - snow, rugged landscape, dragons, and horns on everything.

This is exactly it. When you add the words "vikings" to virtually any list of inspirations, things rapidly become fictional right there.

Vikings and Nordic mythos fucking rule, so what's the problem? <.<

I think it is more accurate to say they were inspired by Victorian Romantic portrayals of mostly fictional Viking culture. For example, the horns on the helmet is a 19th century thing. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Viking_revival

I wanted to trade with the East for silver and only fight when the Franks start fucking shit up or my local lord demands it, damn it! I want to level up my Trelleborg fort building skills and runestone carving, not piss about fighting dragons.
When will people realise that if they are drawing inspiration from Scandinavia they should start and end with tenth century Denmark?
Edit: also a rowing minigame if I want to get to the DLC with Norway and England. Levelling up comes at the price of bone deformities.

If you want to make your own necropants (literally; nábrók) you have to get permission from a living man to use his skin after he's dead.
Nábrókarstafur
After he has been buried you must dig up his body and flay the skin of the corpse in one piece from the waist down. As soon as you step into the pants they will stick to your own skin. A coin must be stolen from a poor widow and placed in the scrotum along with the magical sign, nábrókarstafur, written on a piece of paper. Consequently the coin will draw money into the scrotum so it will never be empty, as long as the original coin is not removed. To ensure salvation the owner has to convince someone else to overtake the pants and step into each leg as soon as he gets out of it. The necropants will thus keep the money-gathering nature for generations.
Edit: also a rowing minigame if I want to get to the DLC with Norway and England. Levelling up comes at the price of bone deformities.
The same should be true if you want to level up your longbow skill.

It's like a bunch of vikings singing the Morrowind theme in a tavern while swaying flagons of ale after a day of pillaging.
That uhh.....
That is... a gamebryo code branch.
That...
That's...
I hope I'm wrong.

It also looks like there's some return of more dynamic settings / locales in game.

Although honestly to me his shout sounds more like "Bostra (Or Mostra, possibly skra instead of stra) Dah"
Medieval Scandinavia is like, pine trees and people with fishing rods
Ed: Du ska dö would pretty much be pronouced duskra dah, the a is short.
Whutevz, pointless to argue about. It found it funny though
They're even cooler than I thought.

The game already looks fantastic. It shall look *even more* fantastic on the PC! Buahahahaaa

It's good to know the game won't be too much of a hog if you want to simply look good like it was in the trailer. Console limitations and all that.

I really wasn't expecting that. If it seriously looks that good when running on my console, I will be stunned.
Indeed. Will pick it up on console to begin with and then in the future grab it on PC if my plan to get a new rig unfolds this year.
That shout.
It is what orgasms are made of.
yeeees
I WANT to go into some dungeon and find that I way too underleveled to be there. I miss that from rpgs.
