Well, I don't see anywhere in that statement that says it has to be the kid's first name. A middle name would probably be significantly less awkward for the child, and might still fulfill the requirements.
Actually someone asked Granstaff and he said that only the first name counts.
Here in Sweden you get your first name change for free. I don't know how it works in the US but wouldn't that be an easy way to grab the cash and then change that kid's name?
Or keep the name because it totally bad ass and no kid at school will ever pick on a kid named Dovahkiin. Teach your kid martial arts at a young age and bam no problem.
One instant bad ass, just add sex and conception.

For some reason it sounds to me like an eastern European last name.
I'm pretty miffed about the whole needing a shield to block thing. Surely there must be some mistake? What if your character is a rogue and eschews shields and their cumbersome weight and needs to parry those big Nord longswords that are swinging around? That last sentence sounded gayer than it should.
I understand not being able to block when you have a spell ready in the one hand for balance reasons. Even though I am a PC owner I would prefer that our console brethren don't get jipped because of no mod support and that parrying with only one sword is still in.

It would be great if they allowed rogue types to use a sword-breaker in the off hand.
Got a problem with Brorrowind. Basically I start the game, everything's good. I get out on the deck of the ship in Seyda Neen, and then within a few seconds I get a "file not found" error, which reads "files\sound\Cr\Cait\CatMOAN.wav"
Any idea for a fix? I followed all the instructions from the BWind installation website, so I dunno what I did wrong here.
You know I don't want to spoil this whole train of conclusions but they never said you couldn't block with just a sword... Just that using a shield is the best kind of block and that the blocking is now timing based.

Players will be unable to block attacks if they are wielding a weapon in one hand and a spell in the other. Only players who wield two handed weapons or a sword and shield can perform blocks.

What part of that is unclear?
This part as the rest of it is talking about magic.

That seems pretty clear to me.
Because if you are talking about magic and using magic then logically you can only block if you put magic away and use something else.
Because if you are talking about magic and using magic then logically you can only block if you put magic away and use something else.
How is that at all logical? If I'm holding a fireball in my left hand, what prevents me from moving the sword in my right hand to block?
But it's beside the point.
Only players who wield two handed weapons or a sword and shield can perform blocks.
This is a very direct and clear statement. It states who can perform blocks, and magic does not enter into it. If they only intended to say that you can't block with magic prepared (which is still arbitrary and stupid) then they utterly failed to communicate it.

It wouldn't be the first the first time Bethesda has failed to communicate something properly.

Possibly, it is only Gameranx translating from a French magazine that is failing to communicate properly (did you ever look at the link?), rather than Bethesda themselves. But until we find out for sure that somebody fucked up we may as well accept the information we're given at face value instead of assuming it's erroneous or inferring something else which directly contradicts the plainest interpretation.
No, he's right. They never said you couldn't block with just a sword. Assuming that sword is two-handed. But hey, claymores can block arrows, so it's cool.

Seen this? http://bit.ly/fonSmM Well, it's legit. The reward? How about a key that gives every Bethesda game ever, past or future, on Steam?

That's...not really that impressive an incentive.

Hahahahaha. So a bunch of games already released that you can get for maybe $100 as a package during a sale, and then every Bethseda game ever released? That's like 60 bucks every year and a half?
The reward does not fit the challenge. Not. At. All.

The file in question is used by Cait's Cats mod. It's very tiny, so I've tossed it up on my Dropbox. Just toss it into "Data Files\sound\Cr\Cait\" and see if it works.
I'd be more worried that it's a sign that something got messed up either in the download or during the decompression of the Borrowind files. If you get any more things like that, nuke your current Morrowind directory (I hope you made a backup copy of your directory like the Borrowind readme suggests) and try installing Brorrowind again. If it does the same thing, try re-downloading it.

Nothing fits the challenge.
Concieving a human person and then giving that person a horrible name is not a challenge that has any suitable reward, other than "Congratulations, you're a bastard. Here have a plaque that makes it official"

I really hope they screw around with the geometry of the environment. I mean, yeah, realism is very pretty and sells copies of COD, but sometimes you need to drop some Euclidian geometry on a protagonist.

Seeing how they are drawing heavily from Shivering Isles I wouldn't be too worried about that. They are pretty good about knowing when to deviate from the normal.

Well, no, if the reward were something like heaps of cash or a crazy trip somewhere and a Bethseda tour, I could see people doing it. There's nothing stopping you from changing the name as soon as you cash in your reward.
The "challenge" is actually giving birth on the release date.

Edit: Oh, hey! More resolutions and a "First In-Game Look" countdown.
Judging by his left hand, knife handles don't seem to be popular in Skyrim.
Also, the outfit get's me worried; Not that I don't like it - I don't but that's not the point - it's that it's the only outfit we've seen so far. Granted, the game is far away from being released, but still, I hope there'll be some variety in clothing. Even better would be if you stayed on one level longer then in oblivion, so you don't have to buy new armor every two quests. That really made armors more about stats and less about looks.
If it didn't feel like the armour was so deliberately set in levels. Steel is better than iron: that means it offers more defence, has more health, is worth more money, and is heavier, with all the numbers going up in proportion. Something which permits a tactical choice, as opposed to just picking how scaled up you want all the standard armour multipliers to be.

I don't get it. That's a sword in his left hand. And in his right hand, the knife definitely has a handle and hilt.
Explain your joke, damnit!
Fine, his RIGHT hand then. ಠ_ಠ
At first I thought I just couldn't see it in the small version, but look at the HD picture: There is.no.handle! He's holding the blade in his bare hands!
And that's what concerns me.
There's clearly a handle. The dagger just doesn't have a very big or pronounced guard. But you can obviously see a line below his hand and above the blade which separates the blade and the handle.
Maybe it's a dirk. It's not like crossguardless knives don't exist.
Still unhealthy if you've got your fingers on the blade as the protagonist does.
Anyways, I didn't follow the whole mass of informations released about the game; What's there in form of costumization? Will there be different races with unique abilites again?
