No Signal Between PS3 and TV

kfroosterkfrooster Registered User regular
As the thread title indicates, I'm currently not getting a signal between my PS3 and TV.

Background information:
- I've currently tried out all other HDMI ports
- The TV in question is a Sony Bravia
- I have also tried another HDMI cable and to no avail
- I do not have any other HD Devices to check
- The PS3 is about two years old now
- The TV is roughly the same age

Hopefully this is the right place to post about this particular problem. I humbly ask for any tech wizards here for help in this particular problem before I make a call to Customer Support.

So did you change any settings on your TV or PS3 recently?

I switched from 480 to 1080 I believe about 1-2 weeks ago on the PS3. Or is it 420 =S

I'd try holding down your power button for around 6 seconds. It'll reset all your video settings to default/most compatibility. That way, if your PS3 is trying to output something your TV can't accept, it will just reset everything down to 480i. From there, you can adjust the settings back up if the image is working.

Does this technique work for the original models of the PS3?

So it did reset, but still no picture? When resetting, it takes longer to boot up, and makes some extra beeps.

Do you have the RCA cables? Could try that to verify PS3 is outputting at all.

Also anything change on your TV? See if there's a reset for in/outputs. Also, are you getting sound from the HDMI when PS3 is plugged in - do you hear the orchestra warm up?

The Red, Yellow and White cable works if that's what you mean by the RCA cable. I was able to verify that the reset did take place as the pictures settings are back at 480i. So at least those work.

I could check and see if there is a reset option located on my TV. And as for an audio signal, no. The TV registers absolutely no signal from the HDMI.

So the problem is the cable if the TV can recognize the PS3 at 480i.

Ah, sorry. What I mean to say is that through the RCA cable I was able to find things had reset and the default setting was at 480i.(Hope that makes sense) As said before as well, I was able to try the system with another HDMI cable and was still getting no signal.

Hmmm... so not completely busted, but something going on with HDMI at TV or PS3. I'd say that's good news.

Is there anyone you can take the PS3 to test it on their TV? Or go down to Best Buy and say you want to try it out.

So I was finally able to contact customer service. They prescribed a full hardware reset which included unplugging everything including my TV. I have both audio and visual back so huzzah. This thread can now be locked.
