(By the way I shouldn't have to remind you, but this is an anime thread so tread carefully. You should know this, but hey see what happened to my goddamn Gundam thread)
EDIT: Sorry, I originally said the 22nd of February, but alas, the new release date got shifted up three months. Oh well. Go check where it's available in theaters, as it kind of sporadically pops up now and again.
So I saw this movie back in October and
loved it. And then I figured hey if Kells could get a "hey this obscure movie that's getting releas'd is good" thread, then so could this.

A general story summary goes as such: JP, an underdog racer, ends up getting into the toughest race in the galaxy - the Redline. The Redline is held every five years, and this Redline is especially dangerous because it's on the fascist cyborg planet of Roboworld, whose government is not particularly approving. And so the race begins and shit gets cool.
Stylistically, it's like a mash-up of Heavy Metal, The Cannonball Run, and Dead Leaves. See the above video. It's directed by Takeshi Koike, previously known for his work on directing and key animation for the Animatrix's World Record. He put over six years of work into this film with the help of almost every studio in the industry, and my god it shows. Every frame was hand animated by Japan's finest, with Koike himself doing key animation on almost every single scene. It is something to behold. Also, the story isn't half bad and the soundtrack is especially strong.
Anyways, the Blu-ray is coming out on the 22nd in all regions [edit: this is a pending release date and may be later, sadly] [edit2: yup looks like the newer sources are saying Q2-Q3], and you must goddamn buy it. $35 for dual audio. There will also be a DVD release but man this movie is worth every extra pixel you can get out of it. I hope the dub is good, because much like FLCL and Dead Leaves before it, you won't want to miss a single frame of animation. I watched it raw in Nagoya, so I wouldn't know how good or bad the subtitled script was. This is tied for the best anime film I've ever seen (three way split between Totoro, Eve no Jikan, and this) and my god it's just sooooo good.

Now where's my DBZ thread at?
Nah it's because ACSIS is the silliest goddamn goose on the forums and did stupid shit to piss off Irond Will, and got the thread closed. He got jailed for it but still. Anyways, let's not get into this argument, because that only makes the thread worse.
EDIT: animeuknews.net is indicating a May 1st release. Oh well.
