If only he had his usual smile in the pic with the scarf. I think it would be better to have the Wheaton smile than the PAX scarf given the choice.

And I don't know about never-ending, but 6 - 8 feet, and a whole lot of space on the back-side too. Would have to limit people to just their names, no personal notes. Maybe a quick small sketch if someone thinks that would identify themselves.

Is there an estimation on how many people would sign it? A majority of people who show up? 50,000 people? 25,000? 70,000?

Oh, I don't think the PHOTO should have him wearing a PAX scarf... I think the photo specifically should NOT, and if they're selling scarves this year (undoubtedly with a new design) someone could buy him one and tie it 'round the standee, to be presented to him along with all the signatures.

Because, you know, since he's not coming, he won't be able to buy one himself. :(

have we stated exactly what we are going to do yet?

it has been said a standee will be there, but we're not allowed to write on it, so what will it be doing?

and is the plan to get a big picture and all sign it? is that what we're going with or are we still throwing ideas around?

i think someone needs to take the reins here and state exactly what we are doing.

I'm good with the ideas, I'm nowhere near the right place to execute.

    Someone has.

Plan A is still a standee.

Plan B options are being discussed should plan A fall through.

I'm trying to get a good image for the standee. If we can't find one, the discussion is open as to what option B is.

I have an inquiry in to the man himself to see if he has an epic photo he would like used. I have ho idea how many people will want to sign it, but I think signatures only is a good idea. Even very small sketches would eat the space too much. Perhaps a sketch book in addition to the standee for folks who wanted to write something more than a signature or draw something?

A banner or scroll might be an interesting alternative but that would take up a lot of space and require babysitting.

    Keep ideas coming folks!!!

A scroll could be done. One rod on each end. Scroll starts off fully wrapped on one side, keep wrapping it around the other side to move down the length of it. Leave like a couple feet of length exposed at any given time across a drawing board. I've seen something like that before, with a handcrank to turn the paper. It was being used at the time to graph wavelengths of some sort, but you could use one for just about anything.

No luck using multiple approaches. At any rate, I think I'm going to have to back out of spearheading this. If someone else wants to step up, now's your chance :/

Alas and alack. My efforts have been thwarted. As a consolation token, I'm getting him a 2011 PAX East challenge coin.
