Yep, game won't actually start at all.

    Very impressed so far, Atari/Eden!

Are you part of the Steam beta? Cause I had a similaar problem with Guardian of Light yesterday when trying to play co-op with suds. Fixed it by verifying the cache AND doing the fragment thing.

No, not using the Steam beta.

Apparently you also need to totally uninstall the TDU2 beta but I never had that installed on this system anyway.

Well that sucks. Have you hit the official forums yet?

Also, fixed the OP gunwarrior, sorry about that. Had it locked as I figured it would be better to keep it strictly PA but there's a bit of a hassle inviting people.

Need to know who lunixy is so I could add you to the OP.

I note that the build name when I started the game has "QA" in it.

There is at least one person on the official TDU2 forum saying they appear to have received a beta/QA version of the game from Amazon.com.

Perhaps there is a connection here.

Edit: Other people are chiming in to say that even the digital distribution version from the Atari online store identifies itself as "QA v055," same for D2D.

    The irony is fantastic.

A dev on the forum offers his assurances that doesn't mean anything as long as you didn't get a physical disc with "QA" on it.

It could be just a product ID? Though the QA does throw that suggestion off. In any case I'm 12 minutes away from finishing the download and will let you know how I fare with it (Steam version).

    Check that...mine is actually "QA v063." :P

One person with a boxed copy posted a screenshot showing that his disc is labeled "review" in Windows.

An Atari staff member continues to give assurances that this is merely a case of someone forgetting to rename the files.

My thread explaining how the game won't start as been moved to "members helping members," where I have yet to receive a suggestion beyond making sure TDU2 and its launcher is allowed through my firewall (they are).

I was for a few minutes. I can't find a way to bind both the g25 and a 360 controller to the game. You can use g25 and keyboard or 360 controller but not 360 and G25 (my keyboard is obstructed when the g25 is mounted). I'm hoping they at least properly auto detect the paddles with specific vehicles. The controller settings need to be tweaked as well in the settings - the steering is ... off.

It's been a while but I seem to remember being able to set seat position in the first game - something I haven't found how to change yet. I'll be disappointed if it didn't make it in.

edit: It is possible to set items to the 360 controller, but you can't use the detect device button; it has to be done manually.

After the additional 3GB download the game finally started successfully.

The story bit dies down after the first license championship. And yes, it is fucking annoying. Also the avatars walking around give me a real Second Life, Home vibe. Its eerie.

Anyway the driving itself is perfect. In car view as always is the way to go. Sadly there's the odd flicker every now and then that's only a problem in menues and cutscenes. In game everything is fine.

I will say its optimized poorly. The game runs sub 30 fps and this is on medium. I exceed the minimum requirements therefore medium should be giving me a stable 30fps. Ironically turning on the AAx4 actually stabilised the framerate alot. Weird.

Bottom line, I'm happy with it. I've only just finished the first tournament and I've got 1 car. But what a car. Mustang Fastback. I should have asked for the lottery numbers :P

Music is awful though and there doesn't appear to be a custom soundtrack option too. ALso you can't zoom in/out of the map, it appears to be broken as of right now. That first tourney actually has a race that's off screen on the map and it was only by chance that flicked the right stick up did I find the race.

Putting the roof down is incredible. I'm so easy to please.

Actually, the driving is total dogshit with a 360 controller and the game doesn't recognize my Logitech MOMO wheel (or lots of other people's wheels, judging from the forums) even though it's on the officially supported list.

The only "workaround" posted so far is to uninstall the Logitech profiler software, so apparently we're supposed to make our Logitech controllers not work with any other game for the sake of getting them to work in TDU2.

    GG, Atari/Eden. GG.

I have never wanted a refund from Steam as badly as I do at this moment.

The controls are fine as long as you're driving at speed in a relatively straight line.

Try going around any tight intersection corners like the ones that the first events consist of almost entirely and your options are to coast around them at 20mph, understeer into the weeds, or completely lose the back end of the car and end up doing a doughnut.

I'm also using the Mustang fastback (naturally). I used to be a GT Legends addict so I'm no stranger to driving rough-handling vintage cars in sims and I've played a lot of NFSHS so I know how to drift.

The handling in this game blows. I was willing to give the benefit of the doubt and think maybe it improves with a wheel (although given that this is a very arcade-style racer it seems unlikely) except that my wheel doesn't work at all despite supposedly being an officially supported controller.

Oh, BTW, turns out a bunch of the cars on the official list that was released are actually going to be DLC-only. Oops! Honest mistake folks, we swear, so sorry that information didn't come out until release day.

(This means the base game has fewer cars than TDU1 did.)

And the files to buy those cars on the store are <200k in size, which means that they're already in the game and you're paying for unlock codes, of course.

And oh, BTW, the PC version is locked at 60fps because it's yet another half-assed console port.

Well done, Atari, you really got me.

How soon until Shift 2 comes out? Just long enough for me to get my hopes up again and have EA take a turn dashing them, I suppose.

Local Gamestop got a small shipment of a couple 360 copies, no ps3 copies, lol.

As a bonus I guess EB/Gamestop have some sort of Exclusive DLC? A in-game casino and some extra cars or some such thing, so I guess that's cool.

The handling is the exact same as the first game but more refined. You have to slow right down before a turn, that's how it worked in the first game. Atleast until the better cars which drifted much better.

And are you serious about the cars being omitted? Fucking joke. I don't even know if i got the damned pre-order bonus car tbh.

Well you're the one claiming you have to drop down to 20mph before turning, felt like I needed to state the obvious. And the forums have a thread wherein they claim to have a workaround. Fuck knows if it works but I doubt it would make the game any better control-wise.

Oh and one last thing, acting like a dick won't get you anywhere. I didn't create this game nor kick your dog or something so please, keep it cool.

Also a bit of confusion surrounding the pre-order bonuses. The cars are unlocked at their respective levels to ensure balance. Once you hit that level you should be able to get the car. Another thing they failed to clarify.

There is a difference between "braking before a corner" and "slowing down to granny speed in order to coast around it."
And the forums have a thread wherein they claim to have a workaround.

It doesn't. Exiting the Logitech profiler does nothing, completely uninstalling it from my computer and calibrating the wheel in Windows does nothing. The game still won't detect my wheel.

I'm sorry, I truly am, I'm not angry at you. I admit I was annoyed when you told me to slow down before corners like I've never played a racing game before, but my frustrations with the game aren't your fault and I don't mean for it to seem like I'm taking it out on you.

Yeah I wasn't being pedantic, its just the first game had that where the initial few cars would be awful and required you to almost come to a standstill when turning. That said the dlc thing has me really worried. Atari really dropped the ball on the customer support side of things.

Personally, not had any trouble so far. Little annoyed at the cars being cut though, those dicks.

aha, no wonder my DLC Code isn't working:
The Xbox360 version of Test Drive Unlimited 2 Casino Online is not live yet. This is scheduled to go live before end-of-day on February 9th (or earlier). Currently if you enter your key on the Xbox360 dashboard, it will give you an error. Don't worry, it's not your key - it's just that the code won't recognize until Casino goes live.

Another huge omission (for me anyway) is the cockpit camera customisation. What this did in TDU 1 was allow you to adjust the in-car camera position. Right now there is no option for it and it sucks because some cars (Mustang Fastback) rear-view mirrors appear off-screen. If this was TDU 1 you could just adjust your seating position and it would be fine. But as of right now I'm having to pan the players head to the right in order to see the mirror. Annoying.

Also missing are custom soundtracks. There's an awful lot gone wrong. But the stuff they got right is ace.

This is my biggest gripe so far. Cockpit view camera is essential. I feel like I'm 4'2" and crammed against the steering wheel while sitting on a booster seat. I have no performance issues though. Everything is maxed (but aa x2) @ 1920x1080 with no fps drop at all. This is on a Q9550 and a GTX 260 Core 216. The rest of the parts are from 2006.

    I can't believe that. That's really disappointing.

I know this sounds super picky/fussy, but man, cockpit views can seriously make or break a racing game for me these days. Even over the arcade handling.

Just from the sounds of it, I'm already regretting the pre-purchase.
Cars that are DLC so you can be nickle-and-dimed.
The omission of the fact that the cars are DLC.
    Limited FPS.
Limited control of the driver's seat.
    Not recognizing hardware.
    Custom sound tracks.

It's starting to sound like an EA release. It's a money grab by porting it to the PC, with no or very limited support for the platform, maybe a patch if we're lucky, and then total abandonment. Hell, if we're super lucky they'll keep the servers up for more than 6 months for PC!
