I absolutely love the classes in this game, there are so many atypical classes mixed in with the normal archetypes.
The first one I made was a Just/Shaman/Sent, which I loved, but everybody seems to be talking about Justicar as a tank, I really liked the idea of being a main healer thats doing some dps while I'm at it. Are Justicars not really effective as main healers?
I am really attracted to a straight up buffer type role, so I tried bard as well, but I couldnt decide what my other souls should be with it. Archon seems like it might fit the buffer/dps role I like as well.
Clerics in general are balls at dps. I mean, my 15 warrior (pally/war/BM) was killing level 18s about twice as fast as my level 18 Justicar (with druid/sham). In terms of healing, you'll have to take a more healing-oriented soul, like Warden, to be an effective main healer. Justicars are very decent tanks, but their heals are very lackluster.
*Looks to his Level 35 Inquisitor/Sentinel/Purifier who blasts things apart.*
Whats your talent tree like? I'm still trying to settle on a good role, though I did enjoy my tanking Shaman/Justicar/Sentinel role.
Quick question. I decided to uninstall Rift Beta and it only gave me back about 3Gb. The game is about 7Gb or so, and I can't find out where it's hiding. Anyone else run across this?
Edit: Found it. If you use the default directory for some reason it puts the files in two places. I found the 7.56GB hiding in "USER\Local Settings\Application Data\RIFT Beta"
Well, Sunday confused me - I was dead set on a champion for headstart, but I bought another profile for my rogue and respecced her to Ass/Blade/Rift and was having an absolute blast - I think I'm going to go rogue now for HS, very versatile class (can technically do all 4 roles). I'll be on the PvE server as an outfitter to make leather for myself and bags for myself and everyone else.
Arthil, what guild name won?
I didn't really put the guild choices up in a way that one could 'win' it was more to get a consensus over the general preferences of everyone.
However because I'm pretty sure SOMEONE tried to skew the results given that we have 120+ votes on it, I'll just leave it to a coin toss or other random thing.
120 isn't really unreasonable. Don't ignore the consensus because you have a bad feeling about the results.
So I didn't have a chance to play the beta as I just found about this game now. From those who have played, any suggestions on some classes to play with in the character builder for a duo?
Wife I believe will prefer ranged/sniper like classes while I will play anything to accommodate the duo.

At the moment I think Rogue trumps Mage in ranged ability when it comes to damage, but someone else will confirm that.

If she wants to be a bow/gun user the only real option is a rogue, either Marksman or Ranger main. A tank would go well with either of those, either one of the warrior tank souls or the cleric's Justicar soul. Alternatively if she goes ranger you could be a healer and let her pet tank things for you(Pets actually tank quite well for solo/duos).
Both of you rolling dps would also be quite viable, though is she goes Marksman you'd probably want to go melee dps so that the two of you don't have to kite things in circles to be able to shoot at them.(If she goes ranger the pet can hold agro while you both kill stuff)

At early levels that sure seems to be true. And Saboteurs can pull off some crazy burst damage given time, though their actual DPS seems inline with everyone else.

Would you recommend warrior or rogue soul if she goes marksman/ranger?
I wouldn't recommend sab for PvE play, personally. It's hilarious for PvP though.
Yeah I tried out Sab and generally found it a mixed bag. You could do a high amount of damage if you stacked up attacks on a target, but if a group attacked you you're doomed. Useful in PVP though because you can just put multiple charges on someone then detonate!

For you? Warrior and Rogue each have a Tank soul, DPS souls, and a pet soul. Rogue also has a Healing soul. So.... Rogue is the best Class by far and everyone knows it.
I'd put Cleric up on par with Rogue, for the most part.
Warriors need a little bit of work, not much, IMO.
Mages need either more consistant damage, or to be less squishy, in general.
Oh I'm being hyperbolic, of course. I enjoyed the hell out of my Cleric, my Warrior, and my Rogue. I'm just totally enamored of Rogue Tanking.
Aye, I hear riftstalker is the bees knees
Any ideas on a decent Rogue tank?
Right now, I am looking at MM/Bard/Rift and getting a boner, however, I have no idea how to disperse the points or if it is even worthwhile. I do like all their skills though.
Has anybody considered the Vindicator's skill that allows a warrior to block without a shield? I know it would require level 50, but it seems like a Vindicator 15 / Paladin 10 / Other Class could be wicked in both PvP and PvE.
Would you recommend warrior or rogue soul if she goes marksman/ranger?
As an aside to all the warrior/cleric suggestion. My wife had a ranger/marks and we had a great time with me as a Chloro/Elementalist Mage. My chloro abilities kept the pets up all day long and we both did solid damage. Just putting it out there if magery was yer kind of thing.

In my opinion, Blade Dancer is a must-have secondary Soul for a Riftstalker tank. The synergy is just too much to pass up. A finisher that gives you a dodge increase (Parry also, with talents), +15% Dex, 5% hit, 5% Dodge, a 2 Min cooldown ability that increases dodge chance by a significant amount, and Combat Pose (more dex!). Bard would probably make a good third choice, for the motifs/anthems/etc. And also +10% health from a tier 1 talent.

Bard also gets a flat 3% less chance to be hit and to be critically hit on a tier 2 branch ability
I hope many builds are viable. It looks like Chloro/Archon/Warlock will be crazy good, but I'm planning on using a weird Chloro/Elementalist/Dominator build.
Riftstalker tanking is a mix bag deciding which way to go about your secondary souls. Whereas Bladedancer gives you more avoidance stats with +Dex, +Parry and +Dodge stats and a couple of nice reactive abilities for threat. Going too deep into Bladedancer take points away from Riftstalker, which scales up the amount of Endurance you receive and that reflects directly with the strength of your Rift Guard and Rift Barrier. As well as replacing Bladedancer with Ranger, you gain more flat health as well as more damage reduction, which improves the ability to tank with your mitigation abilities as a Riftstalker.
Personally I'm on the fence with either 51Rift/8BD/7BRD or 51Rift/8RNG/7BRD, both are great for different reasons, along with 36Rift/22BD/8BRD if you don't mind losing a Rift cooldown and AoE taunt.

I will look into it as well as MGHH's suggestions for a rogue tank. There is so many possibilities with all the classes that my mind is going to explode from trying to calculate everything. Which is both a good and a bad thing.

Man, I really don't much like the idea of going 51 points into any soul. I hope that doesn't end up being the best build for a Riftstalker.
I'd maybe do something like this, since I really like the 38 points Riftstalker skill. But really, if 51 points ends up being the way to go, that's the way I'll go. I'll let the math wizards figure that out for me.
EDIT: Precision - Keep in mind you will have a secondary role that you can switch to at will (out of combat), and most of the souls for any one class by level 16 or so. So you can switch between a DPS role and a healer role, or from Tank to DPS, or whatever you want.
Well if a Riftstalker's shields work off of their endurance, and they have exponentially more endurance thanks to having 51 points, it might be a good idea in that specific case.
Not all of the Souls work the same way I noticed, for some the passive that boosts with your spent points are in the roots of the tree sometimes very deep othertimes a mere 10 points in. And even then, some of these are branch abilities instead, such as with the Champion.

The damage absorption is based on max health, not Endurance. Will the 10% health increase from Bard (plus the endurance song) make up for those points not spent in RS? Hard to say right now, since I have no idea what my health will be like in heavy +End gear at level 50.
I agree with you that it would be pretty crappy that when it comes to expert dungeons and raids, in order to be the best Riftstalker tank you will have to go 51 points within in the tree as well as get both +Health talents from Bard and Ranger. Myself, I prefer the utility of Bladedancer as well as the avoidance and how its abilities work off of dodge.
I see myself going with a 44Rift/15BD/7Bard build for the AoE taunt as well as keeping the +Dex and some hit along with the reflect from Bladedancer (the interrupt and snare will come in handy I believe) along with the +Armor song from Bard.

I'm getting 15-20 fps on high, so we'll see if retail is better than beta.
People said similar things duing WAR's beta, and ho ho hooooo. Not true.
i remember that.
whenever i wanted to take a high quality screenshot i would turn on max detail for the screen then turn them back way down so just looking at a keep didn't kick my midrange computer in teeth.
on a side note, i still have no idea what class i'm going to roll. at the end of open i made ranged dps cleric and void/paladin tank to try out and enjoyed them both, but i also enjoyed my rogues and dps warriors as well as my shaman/druid.
i wish i had had more time to really get them in to at least the mid twenties to get a better feel.

120 isn't really unreasonable. Don't ignore the consensus because you have a bad feeling about the results.
They specifically said the beta client won't be used for retail.
With the steam specific and TF2 bonuses, I suspect that Trion are well on top of things and that steam will be unlocking it in time for the headstart.
I want to know more PA people on Twitter.
Basically, Steam just downloads the patcher. You then start the patcher when the headstart is unlocked and BLAMMO you are downloading the game!
Just ignore Steam and get it from your Rift account page! >.>
That works too, yes.
Not really that much different from getting the patcher through Steam though ;-)
