Well, I guess I should say that I meant that it's kind of bad for me personally because I've owned the game for like....7 days and played the game once before this.
Thus, I'm using tons of different characters and having to learn how to use them while learning how to use the stick. I'd probably be better off learning on a game that I have established characters so my learning would be more focused.
- At fullscreen of standard zoom, the camera will zoom out to give an extra ~33% screen real estate; this is only triggered by horizontal distance, not vertical
- Infinite protection (i.e. hit stun decay) kicks in pretty fast on repetitive chains; standard anti-Sentinel jump infinite with Wolvie ([j.A,A,B,B,C] xN) kicks in between 4th A,A, at hit 16
- You cannot airdash higher than super jump peak (you will simply stall)
- Normal jump has SJ properties; you can whiff j.A and block on the way down, or attack again (this also enables special->super cancel on normal jump). Notably, this means that guard break should not be possible in this game.
- Negative edge does not work in this game; specials/supers only work on button press
- No more reversal jumping after knockdown to avoid lows; you will get hit (in previous Marvel games, you can reversal jump up or forward on knockdown and avoid meaty lows)
- No more superjump cancelling normals (?) (I'm not 100% positive on this, but I couldn't get it to work)
- With some limited exception, sweeps don't really "knock down," they mini-launch (auto-roll on recovery, so no OTG after sweep, only juggle)
- Pushing back during forward dash (or forward during backdash) will not cancel it; you cannot cancel dash directly into blocking; however, you can cancel directly from dash to jump to standing block by pushing u/b (if there is an attack on screen)
- 8-way airdash can be done with joystick (double tap any direction)
- Unlike the old launch, sj.LP,LK,MP,MK,HP aircombo from previous Marvel games, MVC3 B&B aircombo is launch, sj.B,B,C,S. Many characters' j.A comes out at an inconvenient angle for easy aircombos.
- Air A and B usually double chain into themselves (switching hands/feet, like Wolvie's old s.MPs)
- Super armor is a move attribute, not a general character attribute (e.g. Hulk s.C, Sentinel s.B)
- Beam projectiles (at least for former MVC2 characters) now hit all characters in their path (a la Shinkuu Hadoken) unless nullified by another projectile; beams do not lose hits based on number of targets hit
- Whiffed air normals cannot be cancelled into airdash
- Flight lasts approximately 2.1 seconds (that is not a typo); for comparison, in MVC2, Doom and IM's flights last 6+ sec, Magneto's is 8+, Storm and Sentinel's are 12+
- S cancels flight (and you fall at full speed during the S)
- Tags must be blocked high
- Assist is invincible during the taunt animation after assisting
- Assists can be called during flight if you didn't start flight from a super jump
- Assist relaunch juggle still works the same (just slower) when opponent point character is on the field
- Double snap is still technically possible, but it's much harder to do on reaction, due to lack of OTG options. Furthermore, when you relaunch assist, they just fall out after a very short time (I only got 2 launches with the setup I used)
The link also has a bunch of character-specific info for most of the returning characters.

Not really, because there's enough delay between your low attack and them coming in from the side of the screen to switch blocks, and you can't tag out while one of your assists is on screen.

Pretty sure that means characters which have been tagged in must be blocked high. In other words, when somebody swaps characters the incoming tag attack counts as a jump attack. Jump attacks are unaffected by low blocks, so to block an incoming tagged character you have to block high.
You're probably thinking of assist attacks. Assist attack just call the character, they do an attack, and then leave. What kind of block you need against that would depend on the kind of assist attack.
EDIT: Glad to see that there will indeed be super armor, even if it's move-specific rather than character-specific.
I think I figured out how to get streaming to work using my setup, so if anyone is willing to test some things w/me this weekend, that'd be appreciated. I am bad at this stuff, so be patient.
It's not needed as we can't spectate yet, but might be nice to use once that's in / in SF / other fighting games if we all want .

Not to sound like an ass, but that kid just seemed like your typical geek/nerd/whatever. I mean, christ, how greasy can his hair get? Take a shower. And get some people skills while you are at it Captain One Word Answers.
And that 2nd place guy picked Zero why? He was horrid with him.
But there *are* unblockable assist setups though, right? There are high/low hitting assists, so if you do the opposite its unblockable?
It basically works like a mixup that's vertical instead of horizontal. If blocking works like in MvC2, there's a period of blockstun after blocking an attack which will cause you to auto-block additional chained attacks, regardless of their direction.
Thus, doing a tri-jump-in with Mags while calling Wolverine's "dive" assist will be successful depending on whether or not the opponent is blocking the right way for whichever attack hits first (in MvC2). If the opponent is blocking high and Mags' LK hits first, the low dive assist will also be blocked, and vice-versa. I assume it works this way for the same reason that you can't do a throw/command throw right after calling an assist: it'd be impossible to defend against with the right assist.
That should be it. The sound on it gets a bit screwed up at one point then gets fixed, I think its a problem on the original recording.
And I got that he's kinda the typical nerdy kid, that's alright, something about him just comes off as real unlikeable. Then again, probably just nervous or something.
Or he just really sucks.
One or the other.

It's kinda a personal pet peeve I guess. I hate to see people re-enforce that stereotype.
I'm guessing he had luck with Zero against some other teams where he could get in on them a bit, Seth mentioned a few times that Zero needed good assists to help him get in and do his thing.

Overnight shipping+ Capcom online means I got this today.
It is a very fun game with a wide variety of interesting characters. It definitely is worth playing even for terrible casuals like me (fucking Dragon Punches, how do they work?).
My personal favorite team is Zero / Dante / Wesker. Dante is probably the best of the lot, but Wesker's super is particularly nice. Zero has so much potential, but I cannot combo with him like like good players.
Phoenix is absolute and horrible destruction if you get her with X factor and 5 super up. I've never lost a match with her as my final character given those conditions thus far. She's stupidly terrible in other situations. She dies to a single, boring combo otherwise though, so you pretty much have to destroy the enemy utterly.
God damn. Normal mode. 1 hour banging my head against a wall. Getting rapped by Galactus.
For anyone who absolutely sucks at this game (<==) doing the MISSIONS is a help at figuring out just what the hell certain combos and "unlisted" moves (like Dormammu's Dark Matter) are. I'm still getting my head kicked in though and some of these combos I just can't do.

That sucks. Get someone who does really good basic attack combos / damage. It takes a little luck at first though.

No kidding. I really wish you could put a shortcut to dragon punch rather than L+M. I can manually hit L+M consistently. Less so with that fucking dpad / analogy stick.

I someone on the spooky stream pretty much ace the other team (who all had 50% or more life) with X Factored Dark Phoenix. No meter required.

I'll probably play against a few friends in closed matches, but I plan on putting together a team and doing mission mode only until I have them down before I even attempt arcade/online.
I always end up in the fighting game business late and end up rushing to play catch-up, thus ending up awful.

Yeah... It was pretty much written in the stars that fatboy was going to win. I know this going to sound bad, but in Tourny finals I usually root for the least offensive looking person.
Pretty sure that makes me a horrible person, but who fucking cares? :?

Curious, is anyone else getting the Strategy Guide? Perhaps I missed earlier mention of it in the earlier thread, clocks in around 400 pages. It looks like a pretty nice resource, Amazon has it on pre-order sale for 42% off right now.

To anyone in the thread who has the game: Would you be willing to make voice samples of the Capcom characters in Japanese? Not saying one group of VAs are better than the other or anything, just curious to know what they sound like (especially Haggar, Joe, and Spencer)

It's IRC, and just like ever IRC, the mods find that shit funny, the people with no power get annoyed.

Don't care- Wheres my copy, I want to play?
Maybe after I get the basics down I'd be more interested.
But at the same time most of that info will be available on the internet (not pirated, just on SRK) within the month.
