I don't see how mashing would have worked in sf4. You have a better shot at mashing your combos in mvc. Of course, you never should!
I'm still training my fingers to remember where buttons are and tying moves to buttons in my brain. I can do basic ground strings to launcher to air combos, but I'm having trouble with simple jump in combos for some reason.
Relearning all the basics of a game is frustrating after being decent at another!
Man, I had nightmares about that absolutely brutal Chun combo Buktooth was tossing out in the Team Khaos stream last night. 83 hits with no super or tag out. Ridiculous.
Ugh. 5 years of Tron Drilling with QCF makes the new command frustrating. Stupid brain. Get with the times.

Hey you guys:
You can cancel 'uncancelable' ground dash with the grounded version of a special move. When you pres up, the game affords you a few leniency frames to complete a special move input before you jump. So if you input
Down, down forward, forward, up forward, attack
with Dr. Doom you will get a grounded horizontal plasma beam. His dash is not move-cancellable, but is jump cancelable (as is everyone's ground dash if it is not a teleport). If you use the above motion while dashing, he will jump cancel the dash, but use a grounded horizontal plasma beam. This makes ground dashing with him a lot safer because you can cover horizontal zoning while being able to move away without committing to a back jump
I finally feel that I have wolverine down enough so rock most teams by himself (at my level), but fuck if I know how to play anyone else. I'm currently rocking a team of Wolv/Chris/Hulk.
I will never be as good at this game as I am in Street Fighter. I like this a lot, but it lacks something for me.

So, Dormammu's corner crouching medium to flame carpet combo loop: I can do it just fine against Joe in the mission but can't seem to connect it on other characters in training mode. Is it just really character specific or something? If so, man, why teach us it at all.
I was wondering this myself. The hatboxes vary dramatically so the timing might differ as well.
After watching the antics in the Team Khaos channel last night I've come to the conclusion that I am not going to even attempt this game until after I've obtained a proper fightstick. I can't imagine being able to perform the precision movements with just a standard d-pad, even if I've got a PS3.
Also I think it's pretty interesting how they incorporated C.Viper into this game. She carried over her Focus Attack and you aren't prone to hitstun while charging it. What does this mean, exactly? Lots of things, but one of the more interesting is how you can basically soak up say, a dashing move or super, then immediately follow up with an unblockable crumple attack then turn the tables on your opponent. You still take damage, though it's interesting nonetheless.

You called?
My phone still doesn't believe "hitbox" is a word.
Apparently it thinks "hatboxes" is fine. But not hatbox. Which it autocorrects to Jarvis.
I recommend that we now refer to "having an effective hitbox" as "being a Jarvis"
Hey Biz - GGs again. Sorry I cut it short, had to run to class that starts at 3:35. Your wesker is getting better and your Zero is still pretty annoying. Not sure I like Dante though, but I can see his assist power.
Reading the shoryuken.com forums is making my head hurt. I went a good 10-8 last night online, so in hopes of improving my game I went there for team recommendations.
As it turns out my team of Hulk/Arthur/Iron Man sucks, etc.
I hope this game doesn't turn out like MvC2 where it was Cable/Storm/Magneto vs Sentinel/Storm Magneto for 80% of online match-ups.

It won't. Cable isn't in the game, and right now it seems like there is a larger percentage of non-terrible characters.
also you can x-factor cancel normal proton cannon into the angled proton cannon (in corner at least, maybe mid screen) if you only have 1 more meter, if you have 3 more you can do normal proton cannon into iron avenger

So I played this maybe 1 hour yesterday at a friend, just unlocking characters, then we ate and I had to go, so didn't actually play any matches.
Unlocking characters now on my console...who wants to stomp in this guys face in like 45 minutes?
Done and done.

I hated Sentinel in MvC2.
I'm ashamed to admit he's super fun in this...and I so far have played him a lot. He seems to be an easy beginner character to learn how to combo properly.
Biz, sorry I had to cut it short. That last match with Masume was going to be my last, but you seemed like you wanted a beating so I stuck around for a match. ;-)
I am out for the night playing co-op Dead Space 2 with a friend. I might be back really late tonight or just tomorrow.
I love doing X-23s qcf+H, Wesker gun assist, and then launch. I need to work on finishing that combo though. That, and I need to work on comboing with Wesker. Sentinel is just cheap.
My tentative team of iron man/akuma/trish is working out okay. I doubt it'll be my final team, but I haven't spent any time in training mode and jumped straight into versus, and I've had the easiest time mashing it out with these three.
I'm having a hell of a time with some of the inputs, though. Especially Z motions, which is kind of a shame because I really wanted to play Spidey but I can't pull his web-swing off reliably. Mid-air DPs, like Iron Man's smart bombs, are especially troublesome. I guess must have gotten more used to the SF4 shortcuts than I thought. Superjumps aren't coming out easily, either, but I think I figured out that if I'm crouch-blocking, I need to center the stick and then quickly press down again before jumping or else the SJ won't come out.
Also having a hell of a time beating out projectiles unless I'm using a character with a teleport. Take Iron Man vs Doom, for instance. Doom's laser seems to come out pretty fast, so Uni Beam or Proton Cannon won't beat it out. If I enter fly mode, Doom then fires lasers from all directions, and apparently you can't block while you're flying (?) so I eat that. Maybe smart bombs from above would work but I can't do mid-air DPs and when you throw assists in to the mix aaauggggh
Still I've had a ball with the game so far. The game is so lighting fast, that I can't see myself ever being half as competent as I was in SSF4, but I'm having too much fun to really care. I just hope I can find a few like-minded casual players online and that the game doesn't devolve into nothing but sentinel pro-teams too quickly
I'm seriously starting to hate this game. It was fun for a day! I was 8-13! I'm now 13-30 and have fought nothing but Dante and sentinel all day.
*whispers* Play player matches with PA guys. Like me. I'll do full random teams during PA matches. I don't give a shit. *whisperwhisper*
Having said that, I'm now 12-4 in Ranked with my main team. I win by time out a lot. People don't want to get up in my grill because I'm rush heavy so I switch to Wesker and ghetto zone with the pop gun and teleports.
This is usually the time where if the USPS truck doesn't show up, it won't be showing up today. Order status still says "in transit" in GA too.
I wonder if at this point I'll benefit from the delay, or be hindered by it. I could benefit with new strategies (or even patches) being available for a less frustrating first day, or I can run into the following situation on my friend list.
"Hey dude, finally got the game today. Let's play a match. It's my first time, so I think I'll try Ryu, Zero, and-"
I just faced someone using the X-Factor Dark Phoenix strategy. Snapped back his point character to kill her second (Haggar air pipe -> mashed punch super did it) so he had to blow his X-Factor early. She's not nearly as scary using sub-Level 3 X-Factor.
So, the new team seems to be Deadpool/Wolverine/Super Skrull, but i'm thinking of replacing Super Skrull. I mash buttons way too much to play him properly
Whenever I use street fighter characters my muscle memory keeps like flashing back and I keep trying to use a 6-button layout. THat's going to take a hell of a time to get over lol.

As in "wow, rufus's divekick is a real Jarvis."
Pretty sure it's impossible to beat me fair and square, so it must be true.

Mr. Dog is pretty unzoneable, yeah. Along with Wesker.
I mean, Sentinel can try, but he'll end up eating a combo and all that. Sent has to attack these two characters.
