I believe it said that it effects your speed while in the nightmares, but is it a positive or negative effect?
It's supposed to be a positive effect. I never really noticed it though. I didn't even figure out how to drink until halfway through the game. I missed the "actions" window the first time it showed up.
Also, what's this about Erica, I'm really confused.
Hey so I have a bit of a problem, I'm at the boss of Night 3. I only have three continues left! How do I fix this? Can you ever get any more continues, besides getting them as you go through a stage? I died like 15 times on one level in Night 2 because I'm a dumbass, do I have to restart the game to get more than 3-4 tries at a puzzle before restarting the game?

you restart from last save. Later it doesnt matter if you want, because anytime you see a pillow shortly after a checkpoint... just grab the pillow and die over and over. The pillow gives you more continues than dying once. I noticed this when I had about 10 continues and saw this pillow after the checkpoint. A few minutes there and I had like 40 continues.
There is another P4 reference with the plushie on the right corner of the bar. Also, Vincent is an alkie. The way he was putting them away, I was going, "Really? On a week night?"
I was fine until they added in the trap blocks. I ran out of continues. I like how the nightmares are starting to get more gruesome.
I learned that trap blocks are just slow enough to set up without dying. It's important to know your input is kind of analogous. As in, after you push right, you're going to move one full block to the right. While you're moving to the right, start holding left. This should give you enough time to set off the trap without dying to it.
It should be noted I did this with 2 beers in me, so that could have something to do with it.
So far level 4's mechanics are the most brutal.
They pretty much take all that muscle memory and instinct you've been working on and shit all over them. The ice blocks really change the fundamentals on movement entirely. Way too many mistakes have been made.
I was a complete failure at Night 3 stage 1, but did pretty well on the boss once I'd died MANY times coming up with a solution, which just involved me not being stupid and getting rid of the blocks I don't need.
I can see video walkthroughs becoming NECESSARY in this game. GameFAQs isn't going to cut it here.
Good god Stage 3 of Empireo on Hard is a total dickhead in many ways. I am having such troubles. I WILL NOT GIVE IN GAME! So close....I can smell it...
Also FUCK YOU YOU FUCKING AXE SHEEP. God. They are making me the angriest person.
Edit: woohoo! bitching helps! Onto Stage 4!

Instead of walking across ice blocks, dangle from the side and move... if you need to move over only one block and cant dangle, pull a block out towards the camera and it will dangle you. Really, ice blocks just add an extra step in moving... same result. If you cant dangle, move with a block being held.
The only challenge for me still is the controls. Maybe they considered it cheating to climb around the back side of stuff and the controls go to absolute shit on purpose? I dunno. Sure I'm "used" to the controls... they still hamper what could be a really fun and challenging puzzle game. But whatever, this story is funny and entertaining... Vincent is a fucking loser haha.
YAHOO! COMPLETE! Awesome ending too. God that was excellent. SUCK IT HARD MODE!
Ending I got
I got the ending where Vince and Katherine get married and Orlando gets back with his wife and Toby finds out Erica is actually Eric. Which was just hilarious. Man such an awesome ending. Made me smile so hard for everyone.

1> Really digging the game. Even the wonky dating bits part. It gives you enough to change to make it interesting. Helps that the story itself is pretty interesting as well. Already coming up with theories as to what is going on.
I don't think Vince is cheating. Largely because Boss and Erica are in the bar when Catherine comes in and don't seem to notice her. But, that could just be a mishap on the developers part.
2> The game is fucking difficult, even on Normal.
I'm on... Level 3 I guess? The Baby boss. I can get almost to the top but I come to that wall and I just run out of time every time.
3> I like how Vincent's real life anxieties are his number 1 antagonists in his dreams.
4> I really like how it compares your first time answers to everyone else!

Holy shit I just realized this game is on the 360! As soon as I see it I am going to buy it *so hard*. Been really excited after reading peoples impressions of it in the thread and how interesting the story is. I like me some punishing puzzle gameplay.
Yes! I am super terrible at it and stuck on level 4. It doesn't help that I don't really think that hard about the puzzles and just start pulling blocks at random.
So is there no downside to drinking? If it speeds you up in the nightmare, then I see no reason not to get drunk each night. I figured there would be some sort of trade-off. Also, at certain points in the cutscenes, the morality meter or whatever pops up and then there will be a blue cherub above it briefly. Is this indicating that whatever happens in the cutscene changes based on whether I'm leaning more blue or red? It didn't seem like I had any input at those moments.

You can also hang off the sides of trap blocks immediately after you step on them to detonate them.

Another way to deal with ice is to pull blocks over them. While pulling you'll only move one block at a time.

Yeah that's how it works. Drink away friend.
Also yes. Depending on where your bar is he will think different things. It's just his internal monologue I believe that changes. Not the outcome. But it will certainly show you more where he's headed. At least from what I gather he is supposed to be thinking different things.

Fuck. I know the twist now, I guess. Well, I can make a pretty good guess now, I suppose.
What happens if you run out of continues?
Whether you think you know the twist or not doesn't really matter luckily. The game doesn't rely on any one big twist. There's a whole bunch of insanity that happens that is what the game is about. The story is excellent all the way through and then it's not just one big twist. It's like. A bunch of different things that are like what the fuck is happening. You'll see.
And if you run out of continues
you just get a scene of him all withered and his bed is all pissed on and the cops taking his picture and shit.
But then you need to go back to the title screen and reload. So. You don't want it to happen haha.

The instruction booklet gives the impression that your drinking influences the messages you can text. So compare "Sure, send me a pic." to "PIX NAO PLS!!1!"
Doesn't drinking also take time? Or was that one of the things they mention that doesn't take it? Because I can only remember that walking around, playing Rapunzel, and messing with the jukebox definitely don't take time. If drinking does then you'll have to make a decision on whether you want to talk to your friends and see T-Dog embarrass himself or have a drink and forget the conversations.

Nope, drinking doesn't pass time, or affect texts to my knowledge. I'm not sure if it has a detrimental effect at all.

IIRC, talking is the only thing that advances time.
Speaking of. How do you stay at the bar after everyone else?

I just finished Catherine with the good ending (Katherine and Vincent getting married). That was a very enjoyable experience. The last boss was so annoying though with all that random block changing spam. I have a question for those who know though. How many different endings are there? I was looking up the "True" ending on youtube since I don't intend on replaying it to go for Catherine. Is that really the "true" ending, or just the bad ending (going for Catherine)?

Wait. I'm around where cj is and there's a P3 reference? Argh, I'm annoyed I missed it.

/Corrected it for you. I can't see how you didn't think Stan Lee when you saw the guy.
Not yet, but I only got to level 2 or 3 before I felt like if I was gonna block puzzle I might as well block puzzle in the actual game.
No time limit, but nasty puzzles.
