I would be perfectly content with an EA-only DD service if it was something that was actually competition for Steam. Making EA games exclusive to the EA DD service because EA wants to charge that extra 10 bucks? Yeah, no sale. I really, really enjoy BC2, but not nearly enough to have my experience hamstringed by a service controlled by the same people who thought keeping it off Steam would be a great idea.
In real-world terms, this would be like EA pulling all its products from stores in order to make a chain of EA-only stores where they charge more and give less. Sure, they can do it, but it's a damned stupid idea and I just don't have interest in feeding their excess greed. Greed is fine as long as I get an agreeable product, but making things Origin-only is going way over the line of what I'll tolerate for playing a game.
In EA's defense, its not just $10 more on Origin, its $10 more everywhere and should have been expected since I think ME2 was $60 as well. Im totally fine with EA offering DLC for their free to play Battlefield 2 (and really, if they want the system to get off the ground this is the kind of shit they should be doing), but Im not okay with them shackling their game to Origin.
Im really tempted to email EA about their Origin service but Im sure it wont do any good.
If Origin is an actual software distribution/DRM package, you can bet your ass that it'll install with your game even if you get a boxed copy.
Exactly like Steam does, so I'm really confused as to why people are so upset about this.
Wait, youre confused as to why people are upset about being forced to use software they dont want or dont need just to play a game?
Nope, he is confused about the people upset about being forced to use software they dont want or dont need just to play a game that somehow love Valve!

Yeah, for some reason I totally didnt read the "Exactly like Steam does" part as "Exactly like Steam does".
Some good Origin news - The Old Republic apparently wont require Origin to be installed therefore I think its safe to assume that Origin wont be necessary for Battlefield 3 (since integration of a launcher like program makes way more sense for an MMO than it does for a FPS).

Yeah, but that's the "Limited" edition which always costs a bit extra. I never mind that.
Or is the Limited Edition the one which is actually the full game with the extra maps which should have been included from the start? Because if that's the case, then yes, it's pretty stupid to have the actual full version of BF3 be 60 instead of 50.
As for the Origin debate, I would be mostly OK with Origin as BF3's only DD release platform if it's only needed for the download itself, doesn't try to supplant Steam and its functionality, and I can still associate the title with Steam so I can use the normal assortment of Steam features while playing. Then it would at least become debatable as to whether or not I would buy the game, even if it does cost ten bucks more than it should. Considering how much time I've spent with BC2, the game would easily have been worth 60 bucks instead of 50.
However, looking at the Crysis 2 thread, I really don't think EA is going to be reasonable about this. Crysis 2 has been pulled from Steam, EA is trying to blame Valve for the whole thing, and now the multiplayer for Steam-bought copies doesn't work. Not exactly inspiring.

Their "Limited Edition" in this case is just the preorder edition with the Karkand Map Pack code included. That is the ONLY version before release, and after release it will be just the regular edition at the same price. Same thing they've done with a bunch of other EA releases recently, and this trend seems to be continuing.
And if the MP for Crysis 2 isn't working for Steam customers, that is BEYOND terrible.
Yup, Limited Edition shows up as $49.95 for me. Someone said he could get BF3 for like $22 in his country didn't he?
Who was that? And what country is that? I'd just proxy Origin up and get it that way :P

If you're referring to the problem where one should be inverted and the other not, yeah, I don't know if there is actually a fix for that. Mine never did, and I've seen other people claim there was a fix for it, but I've never actually seen one that works. Only way I KNOW that works is to use arrow keys for one, and mouse for the other. I generally just don't get in UAVs anymore, it's such a hassle swapping the controls every time :x
As for the fix I came up with for mouse smoothing, the last patch broke it (but removed most of the smoothing anyway), and I've just been generally lazy in fixing it :P
Battlefield 3 is $79.95 AUD on Origin, and as a testament to how conditioned I am to getting sodomised for prices that actually sounds good to me. Sigh.
I heard somewhere that EA add some kind of bullshit admin/bandwidth surcharge to all their downloads, is that correct? Hilarious if true, considering DD removes manufacturing costs from the equation.
I dont think they do. I bought Sim City 4 using the EADM a while ago and I had no extra download fee (well, technically the game was free since I had some coupon thing that I think was glitched and let me get $10 off anything I put in my cart).

Especially bullshit and hilarious if true since the bandwidth costs for transfering a gigabyte of data is less than a penny. CDs are cheaper than hell to mass produce and would still cost several times more per unit to manufacture than if every copy was transferred digitally and the entire game could fit on a single CD.
I've just finished my finals, so was thinking about getting Bad Company 2 for the Xbox, but considering multiplayer's the most important, are there still plenty of people playing it on live?
I think I did pretty well after not playing for 20+ days, and on this 14" 1024x768 monitor.
Also, I'm up to 739 smoke kills YAY!
My K : D ratio is certainly taking a hit running around trying to bean people with 40mm packages of love (rather than just shootin mans), but it's oh so worth it. Should hit 1000 easily before BF3

Haha yes it was awesome, we were down to 1 MCOM and about 25 tickets, defenders pushed us all back, so the whole team was basically at spawn.
Carbonfire: We aren't going to win this.
Antithesis: Yes we are, I am going to run in there, arm the MCOM and we are going to win this.
Anti runs all the way to the MCOM by himself, arms it, and we win.
So really my point here is that if he had done that at the beginning of the round instead of tooling around with you guys in a Blackhawk, he could have saved everyone a lot of time. Reenacting Vietnam is fun and all, but I don't know if I've ever seen a Blackhawk being more useful as a gun platform than as a transport, even if it leads to some massive K/D ratios.
There are 2 blackhawks, and using one as a gunship is very effective. Arm M-COM, spam the shit out of it with minigun fire, no one can disarm it. That's how we got up until the last point really quickly, I don't think that match lasted more than 15 minutes.
There are no blackhawks in the last point, and we got down to 25 or so tickets left, while in all the previous sections we didn't get below 75 tickets. That should say something about how useful a blackhawk gunship can be.

otherwise they are useless
not if your win condition is to dodge rockets all round while drinking soda with one hand
That's right Delish, everytime I get on the Blackhawk's minigun, I feel it's devastating and really easy to get kills with, but I very rarely see anyone else achieve this. It's like the gun is OP but only if you know how to use it.

I can guess that most people must point the reticle of the Minigun at enemies when they're firing, rather than compensating for the movement of the chopper. Plus if I had to guess, most people who hop in there aren't using Warhead, which turns a slightly useful weapon into a instrument of unending death.
And when the entire defense is either cowering or trying to shoot you down, that frees up a lot of your team to actually go and complete objectives.
I suck with the mini gun because I cant see the dudes Im supposed to shoot and Im not sure how to remedy that. Actually, I dont even know why its hard for me to see them, since I dont have that problem when Im not in the chopper.
I spam the spot button a lot when on the chopper, helps a lot to keep them in sight because of the huge muzzle flash that comes from the minigun. So I also help the team by being an eye in the sky!
I have yet to find a pilot that can fly the Blackhawks worth a darn. In BF 2142, I used to take the transport and hover right of the enemy Titan landing zone so 2 buddies could just mow down the attackers as they tried to peek out. The guns on the Blackhawks are just as good, but you have to find a pilot worth something.

Well to be fair, piloting anything in BF2142 was hilariously easy.

Warhead increases minigun damage?
I always set Vehicle Armor, especially if I am flying choppers. Makes getting shot down by MG fire and AA take much longer. And for tanks it is probably the best, since it is more important to be a big distraction and cover for your team than anything else.

Yeah, vehicle driving basically requires smoke if you want to survive more than a few seconds. On maps like Harvest or whatever it is, tanks end up as Christmas Trees moments into the match as all the defensive and offensive engineers just start tagging everything like crazy.
Smoke does squat against AT4s, but if you're in a chopper then I think they're going to one-shot you no matter what if it's an AT4 rocket with upped explosive damage.
