The ARG is just going to be advertising for the motion controller.
That or a new TF2 hat.
Wait, so they released a TF2 hat that's part of an ARG that's going to reveal a TF2 hat?
TIME LOOP!

... Woah.
Um... So. The surveillance video?
That's The Ladder, by Yes. Written for the game Homeworld.
Are we sure this is...
Are we -SURE- this is a valve game they are promoting? I'm off in wild speculation mode, honestly, but this is something I've been waiting half a decade for.

14:26: As part of the Defense Grid update, a video is linked to which reveals that Jake_R was filmed from across the street when he discovered the Toki Tori Glyph.
Now keep in mind: Despite my rabid fanboyism for Homeworld (and consequently Relic Entertainment - I need to talk with ya again, Erin Daly, if you are out there!), I highly doubt Valve is in any way related to Relic/THQ on this one. But hearing that song tied into this ARG just makes my heart soar.
Also: Hey, Relic? You managed to get the Homeworld IP back from Sierra, and consequently Activision/Blizzard's grubby hands. MAKE SOMETHING WITH IT ALREADY!
God I want Homeworld 3 so bad. So sad it will never happen.
As for the song, they probably just searched for something involving climbing.
Not to go completely off the rails, but why wouldn't it happen? 2 may not have had the greatest story, but it was at least decent. And again, Relic wholly owns the IP now. And Valve/Relic were both under Sierra back in 1998...
Are you sure Relic fully owns the IP? I always thought they weren't the actual holders and that's why we can't get a sequel.
The things I would give for a Homeworld sequel....
Every once in awhile I hear about Relic working on some "secret" game and then it always ends up being a DoW sequel/xpack and bleh.
I think the only games they're working on right now is Space Marine and likely CoH2. They haven't officially announced CoH2 but I think that's what the general understanding is their current unnamed project.
EDIT: Oh I see now. I just looked it up; yep they bought the IP back but never made any announcements that they were working on a sequel.

I've just grown to accept it as fact. I didn't know they'd gotten the rights back until now.

Grrr.. so many spirits dashed today.
I'm checking my old haunt, Relicnews (Holy hell Uberjumper is still running that place?!) and I can't find any news posts about the acquisition. I must've been in a fevered dream or something.
Edit: FOUND IT!
Homeworld IP is owned by THQ!

Shit, they deliberately paused the ARG while the wiki was down, and when it came back up it was discovered that more parts of the ARG were on the vehicles in the video!
Good lord the Toki Tori people are in deep. I want to buy the game now just to see what these guys are like.
Aperture is Black Mesa all along? Or maybe the HEV suits are common technology and it's never explained in HL2 where the gravity gun is from. It could potentially come from Aperture.
At least we finally get to find out who the "Rat Man" is now too. That one's been bugging me since Portal ended and we never found out.
Also, in case anyone's wondering about the binary on page 8, it just spells out "The cake is a lie."
EDIT: @ Peewi:
I don't think Aperture is Black Mesa, they're pretty clearly delineated in HL2. It's probably just common technology. Also, Aperture were competing with Black Mesa, so it would make sense that they were grabbing equipment from each other and reverse engineering it to see how it worked and to make use of.
I suspect that the Gravity Gun, or at least its principles, were a Black Mesa thing that Aperture got hold of and reverse engineered. Which then got included in the Portal gun as well (you can see that's what he's working on whilst the GG is on the table and off to the side. It might just be me but it also looks like a more well made device than the slightly junky one that was put together by Black Mesa East for use in HL2. Understandable considering what they had to work with "in the field").
The chargers are probably just shared technology. Maybe Gina Cross worked at Aperture prior to Black Mesa, so they use HEV suits too.
As for the gravity gun.. well, it had to come from somewhere. Not surprising considering the portal gun has minor gravity gun features

Is it bad that when watching those videos, I pictured Cave Johnson flying around in his Autoboathome and trying to teach me about insurance as well as sell me an investment opportunity?
Okay so I just got a flyer in my email from gamestop canada that says GET IT TODAY, and I started getting excited. Then I realized they just want me to pre-order and now I'm sad.

I really wish I would have read that before I spent 10 minutes plugging all of that into a binary translator.
