I'm sure it'd annoy someone, somewhere, but I'd think getting Portal 2 out on a Friday (thus, giving many people the weekend to enjoy it unfettered) would be a boon on average, rather than having to wait until a tuesday.
And even then, for some of those for whom the weekend is a complete clusterfuck but managed to take a tuesday off class or work, at least you'll have the whole day with it, whereas everyone else will just have to suffer through their day.
Personally I'm cheering for an early release. It'd be a welcome change of pace... despite the release date having been bumped back, so it's not so much 'early' as it is 'less late'.

Im hesitant to get the PS3 version. I played through the first game on the PS3 and had trouble with the precise aiming needed during the latter parts. Like you'd have a small window of time to fire some of those portals and it could get tricky using the two analogue sticks.
But then the PS3 version of Portal 2 is my only option. I just wanna play it in as optimum a setting as possible.
So this comes out next Friday (don't know the actual release date) or the Friday after that or something? That is the best thing if so giving a whole weekend for it.

Unlocks on steam at 0700 on the 19th. which is 2300 on the 19th for me.

It's due out on the 19th, two tuesdays from now. If it's released on the 15th (next friday) that'd give it to us 4 days early.
I'm kinda bummed to hear Portal 2 takes place hundreds of years later.
Part of the first game's charm for me was the idea that its events ran parallel to those of Half-Life.
Maybe it didn't before and now it will.
Timeline wouldn't add up. There's a gap between HL1 and HL2, but it's only in the decades, given that Alyx (and other characters) age but aren't utterly gone. While it's quite possible Portal 1 took place before, during or after HL1/2, it'd only be a matter of 20-30 years or so. Definitely short of the supposed hundreds between P1 & P2.
Unless Chell is an android.

Yes. That would explain her not aging, but as there is no gap of hundreds of years in the HL2 setting, and HL2 isn't set hundreds of years in the future (best I can recall), it would allow for P1 to happy around HL1 or HL2, but not both games to occur within that timeline, was my point.

Also, my impression is that the end of Portal coincided with the appearance of the ship at the end of Episode 2.
We'll find out more as the comic (and game) goes on, I suppose.
I think it would be kind of interesting for Chell to awaken again hundreds of years after the events of Half-Life. It might give hints as to that worlds final fate.

I suppose and I know things point to P1 occurring at the same time as HL2 but nothings for certain yet! Lots of grey areas.
So, if my rinky-dink laptop with integrated graphics plays Portal 1 pretty well with medium-to-high qualities even, is there a possibility that it can run Portal 2 as well?

Possibly at the lowest settings? But with the fluids and stuff it's probably going to be pretty intensive.

The amount of cool art coming out the ARG is fucking rad
Is there an easy way to see it? When I looked earlier they had a zip file, but they replaced it with a link to a page that hosts all the files. Individually.

Valve is very good at writing their shit to be very forgiving when it comes to low-end machines. They do a wide range of layered textures and lighting techniques to save on GPU/CPU. They have kept this trend going since Half Life 1, sooo I would say it's a safe bet you'll get something playable.
Won't be like running it on a brand new iMac or a PS3/Xbox but it might hold ya over.
I can't imagine Portal 2 not running on Source. It's fucking Source! If it plays Half-Life 2 it'll play Portal 2.
That's not actually guaranteed. With every game they release, Valve upgrade Source with new techno voodoo.
When HL2 originally released it could run on minimum DirectX 7 (maybe 6, not entirely sure). The Orange Box games are minimum DX8 and L4D and forward are minum DX9.
EDIT: Turns out I downloaded 68 TGA files for no good reason and all the images have already been converted to an easily digestable format. They even extracted extra images.

Stupid question but I'm hoping I'll be forgiven, as I'm desperately trying to avoid spoilers, but how do we know it takes place hundred(s) of years later?

Because that's one of the things Valve talked about when Portal 2 was first announced.

Statements from Valve. Also massive vegetation growth and some duologue from the first few minutes of the game Valve showed at PAX.

I believe it was mentioned in an interview or magazine article.
Also, notice in the trailers that the facility seems to be heavily overrun by vegetation. Maybe it wouldn't take hundreds of years for that to happen, but we're definitely supposed to be under the impression that very significant amounts of time have gone by.
I suppose if it were to turn out to be a [strike]fabrication[/strike] enhancement of the truth and it were only decades, then the two series could line up nicely (given that something like 2 decades passed between HL1 and HL2 during which Alyx grew up and the world went to shit). Edit: although apparently that's stretching things so hard they've already snapped, so ignore my ignorant conjecture. I blame a lack of coffee for my crimes against continuity.

I tend to fuck myself like this quite often. Unless neither services get it early and it's a PC only thing. Then yeah, I'm totally fine with that.

Anyone know if the co-op is online only, or if there is a split screen version for the Xbox?
On the other hand,
Got both those tidbits of info from his latest blog entry: http://www.jonathancoulton.com/2011/04/10/still-alive-clarifications/
My prediction?
A new song entitled "Finally Dead". Its just a heart monitor flatlining, followed by 3 minutes of static.
People will be quoting it for the next 4 years.
