Windows 7 Update problems?

Hey everyone, hoping I could get some help with an issue I've been having with my computer.

Basically, there are a bunch of updates (almost all designated as important) but they won't install properly. I always get the same error message (800736B3 and 80073701) when I install them normally. Whenever I shut the computer down it does the whole installing updates thing, but it never works because they're there again when the computer is next started up.

I've looked in google to see whether I can find any solutions for this, the only one I could find was about using the Microsoft FixIt for the updates. I ran it first on regular, no luck. Then on aggressive, again no luck.

Here's a screenshot of the updater. Yeah, my Windows is in German, I live in Switzerland okay :p It basically says: Several updates were not installed, 12 updates failed. Next to the error codes it says unknown error with windows update.

Anyone have any ideas? I'd really rather it didn't come to reformatting my computer >.>

I can't solve your exact problem, but we recently had a problem with a couple of our Windows 7 machines. They somehow were trying to look for a domain server to get their updates, so would not accept any updates from Windows Update. To fix it, we had to have them join the domain, and they now get their updates from a central server.

Perhaps your system is now looking for updates from a server that it can't find, and is refusing to update as a standalone machine?

Hm, I dunno. I don't have a LAN or anything here at home.

I've also tried installing the updates one by one to see which one was shitting things up, but it seems every single one doesn't work >.>

I'd go ahead try the second method described here, it sounds like youre having registry issues.

Tried it, unfortunately no luck. The first time it froze up while running it, second time it outright fails when I start it, giving an error message.

This morning when I started the computer it gave the "updates are being configured, don't shut down the computer" message, so I went and took a shower. When I came back, it was on the login screen and all the updates are still there :s

    Anyone else have any ideas?

try doing it in batches. i recall seeing someone else having a similar issue. did it in batches and it went through fine. something abou tall the changes conflicting with each each so it canceled out
