Has anyone found they sometimes inexplicably lose consumables? I made like 8 meat baits, and then I used one. Five minutes later I went to use more... and they were gone. I still had a couple spots open in my inventory, so I didn't accidentally drop them somewhere by picking up some junk.
And the LMB+RMB special attack once you get the final combat skill is pretty ace for Sam B. Knock em down then jump stomp their heads.
Well, after about 20 attempts I was finally able to beat the Pure Blood mission, albeit with my sanity barely intact.
A fucking Thug, Butcher and like 5-6 Walkers all going after the guy I'm escorting? Fuck you, game!
Hardest part of the game thus far to me, as I'm playing single player as Sam B. I don't even want to think about what it would have been like as another character. It was pretty much pure luck that I got past it.

The DPS on pistols is fine, the problem is in 4 player even with the ammo upgrades, you blow all your ammo to kill 4 or 5 walkers
have you modded your guns at all
because that's a big part of increasing their usefulness
Just found the Shock Gun mod, but at 2% chance it's not really doing a whole bunch. Nice when it happens, though.
Just wish I had the ammo recipe.
Actually, that reminds me, got to City Hall, the survivors are all talking about 'the assholes in the police station', but I've never been there? Are they only referencing the broadcasts or did I somehow sequence break?
Also, pathing seems to have broken or some shit in the sewers while trying to get to the market. Kept leading us into walls, eventually said fuck it and went back to the original map to restock.

I just made the Hand of Glova, used it once and it cost over 1100 bucks just to repair it up after doing ONE attack. That's friggen outrageous that to use this weapon it basically costs a grand per attack.

Yeah, I guess ill only use Glova in "oh shit, im getting swarmed" situations.
Thing's pricey...
Everyone has a price. Throw enough gold around and someone will risk disintegration.
Has anyone found they sometimes inexplicably lose consumables?
No, but i can swear I have gnomes stealing my crafting materials. I must have picked up at least two dozen wires during act one and never used them, and then only having enough to do shock mods on two weapons when I got to act two.
Argh, FUCK the shopping in this game. Buying or selling something and having the list immediately select the next alphabetical thing was a pain, but it just cost me 9 grand because the fucking thing autoselected an epic set of heavy brass knuckles when I was buying duct tape. And the merchant bought it back for like $700.

I have spent several thousand doing this too.
My brother mocks me every time I go to a vendor. "Make sure you're hitting the right thing now"
Just waiting for him to make the same mistake so I can laugh in his fucking face.
But yes, I agree. It's dumb.

I was wondering this too. I have heard several references (including in cut scenes) and have no idea.
Just tried coop with curlye haired boy and then blain. Its hilarious playing with friend who are way over levelled for your quests. I was getting thrown around by a Thug and out of nowhere, blain jumps and hits it killing it in one hit.
Then there was the time we both kicked a zombie st the exact same time, killing it. Added silliness from the fact that we both chose the sane character to play as.
Then there was curlys drunk driving. I took a screen shot as proof! its in my steam profile, on cell right now so I can't link it.

I think theyre referencing the radio broadcasts. As far as I know, you cant access the station until after city hall.
On an unrelated note, I just realized that my quest chain involving Russian guys has bugged right the hell out. It looks like I've completed the "find Nikolai at the restaurant" quest, and gotten its sequel, but I didn't actually do it.
Will I be able to get to the jungle now?

You go to the police station later, but if you've been listening to the radio and whatnot, you'd have heard it was overrun by a gang.
The colour quality of the mod recipe doesn't actually play any role in how rare or effective it is. The best mods are all in the endgame, and they require the green-colour crafting materials like Stingray Tails, Engine Parts, LP4000 Batteries and Flares, as well as usually 2-3 of a bunch of other things.
The mods that require those parts are:
Old Smoky: Requires LP4000 - shock element. Only works on machete types.
Tesla: Requires Engine Parts - shock element. Only works on sledgehammer types and mauls.
Phoenix: Requires Flares - fire element. Only works on certain axe types.
Deathstalker: Requires Stingray Tail - poison element. Works on a wide variety of weapons.
I got a superb wakazashi from one of the quests in Act 3. 830+55 base damage. Shame the thing has half the durability of most other weapon types. I made the difficult choice of selling it off instead.

i'd add that you can get it down to around 70 percent and it'll cost around 1300 to repair. basically, if you use it, you know you're going to be spending a grand to repair it, but subsequent uses don't bump up the cost very much. i can get 6 or so shots off before i start getting above 1500 repair cost.

The Old Smokey turns the machete into a double machete thingy, it looks awesome. You should also note that if the shock is triggered, the zombie is killed no matter what. It's possible for the shock on other weapons to run out before the zombie dies... with Old Smokey, when this happens the zombie's head explodes. =D
It's a Steam thread with a massive lift of fixes and tweaks for Dead Island. Apologies if this has already been mentioned, just saw it on Rock Paper Shotgun.
Man, Act 2 continues to challenge my desire to play this game. I'm toolin' along doing fine, but one wrong step and it's like every zombie in the city is after me. The worst part is when Infected get involved, because they run so fast and if they get close, attack with blinding speed that has me down to no health in an instant. So then I die, and resurrect right there in the midst of the zombies who just killed me. I manage to run a bit before dying again, res, turn and see the huge pack about to overwhelm me again. It's at this point I just quit out of the game.
Multi-player is, however, a bright spot. It can get a bit frustrating as well, but for the most part I have enjoyed playing along with others, most of whom have been pubbies (with tonight being an exception). I might just be fortunate, but most of the people I've joined up with have been cooperative. The downside here is really that I never seem to get any weapons when running with others, the quests have been known to bug out far more often, and most fights are either all of us curb-stomping a zombie, or a million zombies overwhelming us.
Act II was death after death for me. Some of the areas of that city are just deadly. I frankly don't know how to handle 2 or more infected at a time. Especially when they trap you in a corner.
I just started Act III, and at the onset it seems easier.
when in doubt with infected kick... kick... kick... some more, if you can pull it off jump kick (hopefully get both) if not stand in front of the downed one and kick at the other one.... if you can stun them both they are fairly easily beheaded
Jump kick is the first thing I do against almost every walker or infected. It drains stamina pretty quickly but it's so worth it for an instant knockdown. Also, I found a good way to survive in the city is to jump on top of the nearest car. The zombies won't be able to hit you but you'll usually be able to hit them.
EDIT: The jump kick also works on punks. You just have to be quick, as they get up after a couple seconds.

Act 2 is really frustrating me. Not the bump in difficulty specifically, that was pretty great. I also love the new atmosphere and location. What's making me want to stop playing is the artificial difficulty. The infected that just spawn out of nowhere and continually spawn (i've just sat there to see if it's an infinite spawn and it is. just at random parts of the city) so I'm trying to get around walkers, thugs, suiciders, rams, and then infected constantly spawn behind me and I die in a few hits and I can't really even help it.
The quarantine zone in the center is complete bullshit. The rest of the game is good better, but thats pretty much the difficulty curve. Resort beginning is really easy, get to the end of act 1 game is tough but fair, Act 2-4 is "Fuck my kick missed, guess I lost 3/4 my life from one infected.".

How to Play Sam B:
Kick
Stomp
Kick
Stomp
Fury
Sledgehammer
Can zombies blow up the propane tanks? I threw a tank at two infected right as they got to me, and it blew up in my face and killed us all.
Physics.
Sufficient speed when they impact, such as throwing and connecting with an Infected running directly at you, will damage the tank itself and set it off.

some City Hall comments:
It was pretty interesting going through the first time, as one of the guys I regularly play with commented on how alot of the policemen had bandages on their arms, same as Jin's dad, signifying they were injured/may have gotten bit.
Just beat the game, I had a great time overall, I played as Purna and finishing at level 41. I go to start a new game+ and when I start act 1, I noticed my blue rifle and dev mod were removed from my inventory. This happened to me before, I lost two other weapons randomly while playing with PA folk. Anyone know what causes this? I'm on 360 if that means anything. I also sometimes get a game freeze that turns the screen blue and then a pile of blood is covering the entire screen, I honestly thought it was a game feature at first but that's not the case. Also I regret picking Purna as a starting character, SamB and Logan seem to have much more fun killing zombies. I really hope they clear up the issues in a patch and I really want them to make a DI 2, since I think they are going in the right direction with zombie games. I kinda hope they make a level that is pitch black and you only got your flashlight and ears to help you through all the zombies.

I wouldn't mind seeing a game in the same style as this, but only based in a city and using inFamous as a basis. Something like you're the CDC and slowly taking a city back.
purna is not a blunt weapon specialist...but holy fuck i just made a Shark Gabriel's Sledgehammer, and it has damn near 1500 force. i swing it and my entire screen view tilts with the blow. definitely going to roll sam b for my next playthrough, so i can take advantage of those juicy bonuses.
ran into my first butchers. they're interesting to fight in close quarters, as they can leap back from your swings and such.
the answer is shotgun to the head.
EDIT: for those having problems with Act 2's infected/smarter walkers etc:
1. keep a few machetes/cleavers handy to throw at approaching infected.
2. do not get backed up against a wall. instead, keep strafing left and right from the zombies you're fighting. move to the side, not backwards. a good technique to practice is jumping to the side while slashing.
3. say you've got an infected in your face. he's very fast, and you're barely keeping up with the kicks. you can't fit in enough swings to damage him before he recovers from the kick and starts taking huge chunks of your health bar away again. Solution: alternate swings with kicks. one kick followed by one swing, followed by another kick. you'll keep the zombies from shoving you back and interrupting your slicing/stabbing/crushing movements.
Act 2 is really where the game teaches you to get better at melee combat. But since learning how to fight better, i can handle 4 infected at a time, 8 walkers at a time, etc.

Yes some of the quests (that one and the plane crash landing) are both retarded like that, but it shouldnt affect your progress towards the jungle

Yea I have a shock pistol, and its nice, and enough mats to craft several hundred ammo
So I mean I use it, but it really isn't optimal
i'd add that you can get it down to around 70 percent and it'll cost around 1300 to repair. basically, if you use it, you know you're going to be spending a grand to repair it, but subsequent uses don't bump up the cost very much. i can get 6 or so shots off before i start getting above 1500 repair cost.
