I'm not very good at this game. I'm trying to get better and nail down a team, but I just can't figure it out.
Right now my team is
Magneto
Akuma
Trish
Trish's peekaboo trap + mag's disruptor are pretty great in combo but the second anyone gets in on me I'm done. I had a Zero 100% combo me once and take out one of my assists at the same time.
I just have terrible fundamentals. I can never land combos or arials.
Finally went into Ranked for an extended period and ended up with an 11-2 record so far. I think I'm just gonna abuse the armored Hsien-Ko assist until people start figuring out to kill it from a safe place. It seems hiding behind gongs and throwing things in the meantime tends to do better than it should for her on point.
For the curious. I voted for Vanessa (PN03) Garcian (Killer7), Rouge (Powerstone), Hayato, and Q (Third Strike) in Capcom. And for Marvel voted for Cloak & Dagger, Sebastian Shaw, Shadowcat & Lockheed, Silver Samurai, and Thanos.
I honestly wouldn't have a problem with any of those characters as DLC, but in my opinion there's a certain lack of imagination to the results. Yes, I wanted weird characters, but not just because they're weird but because they might play in interesting unique ways.
If any of the guys from MvC2 that were voted for show up as DLC and are significantly different from their previous incarnations there will be a goddamned outcry. And if they're too similar... people will scream from the rooftops. I just hope Seth and co. are aware of this contradiction and actually stretch when it comes to DLC rather than just adding some of MvC2's roster and calling it a day.
I hope Vergil, Ken, and Leon get added. Put them against Dante/Wesker/Chris and change the game's title to Marvel vs. Generic Cool Guy 3: He's Probably Got Guns Edition.
How exactly would Green Goblin work in a versus game? He'd have to be more-or-less permanently attached to his glider for the character to look and feel "right". And there's probably enough of a visual similarity to the Super Skrull for Capcom to sign off on him (although... if they made Hobgoblin playable instead, that would fix that problem. A pity then that Hobbie looks fairly similar to Taskmaster).
Silver Surfer suffers from the same basic problem, too.
I cannot believe that Carnage got so many votes. Carnage? Seriously?
I blame ballot stuffing. I can't wrap my head around the idea that there are almost 1000 Carnage fans in the world.
Blame the majority of MvC players having grown up reading 90s comics. And, of course, the various 90s Marvel animated series. Those were dark, dark times for fans of coherant plots and non-derivative characters.
Coming from SSFIV, I'm finding the combo system as a breath of fresh air. The leniency, not especially in the timings, but in terms of what can cancel into what has me hooked.
As well as popping a nerdboner with every new team my fan brain constructs, obviously.
I'm taking the age old Pokémon tact of "trying to win with your favourites".

Luckily, at present, it looks like every character is broken as fuck.

I really want to see Gene in this game. If he doesn't make the cut, I can just assume that his impregnable defense and his impetuous style are too much for MvC 3.
So...I started my first couple of ranked matches with Dante, Sentinel and Wesker. I scrubbed the shit out of that team, with only Dante feeling like I have some skill.
I am a bad, bad person.
But then again I cannot help but loving Dante. His playstyle is by far my favorite out of the roster so far. He controls just right. Screw it if he's way too popular, I like playing him and that's the only reason I need.
Phoenix is also fun were it not for the fact that she's made of cardboard. Amaterasu is a character I want to learn just because I love Okami--Viewtiful Joe gets the same appreciation, but she and Joe have a playstyle I don't know if I can get used to. I like playing Zero some, but he suffers from low-health like Phoenix and I have trouble dealing with characters with such flimsy fortitude.
Does anyone have recommendations for characters that are "fun" in the way Dante is? Or maybe a Phoenix-like/Zero-like character that doesn't have absurdly low health? Or maybe some recommendations for Amaterasu and Joe?

Taskmaster would probably be a good choice, since he has some of the same strong points Dante has while remaining different enough to avoid redundancy.
edit: Left before the tourney was over, but teams with Amaterasu and Zero seemed to be having a lot of success.
I've definitely had good times with this team (+Deadpool) so far, especially if I managed to take out one person with Ammy and whittle down the other two a bit - get Zero in, use Sougenmu + X-Factor & force them into a corner by flipping the fark out....won a few matches that I really should have lost otherwise, especially one where I took out a Dorm and Dante at the same time.
If phoenix wright doesn't get added then I can only assume that it's because their variable names don't allow for more than 7 characters and they couldn't have a PHOENIX and PHOENIX_W

I pretty much feel the same way about Deadpool. Yeah, Happy Happy Trigger may get annoying after the billionth time you've heard it, but I cannot stop having plain old fun when playing with him on my team.

Carnage is a stupid character, but the reason I would like to see him or venom make it in is because they would have a fun and unique playstyle.
I voted for Carnage. I figure as far as characters for a fighting game go Carnage is someone you could do crazy stuff with that would work good for a fighting game.
Imo Fuck Gambit being so high on the list. I knew it was coming but still.

Gambit's the only character from MvC2 that I really want back.
Not counting all megamans as one character Venom beat 2 top capcom vote getters by 25% I'd say even if they were planning on not using returning characters they would have to consider him still. Selling DLC is the idea after all.
I'm worried that Ghost mode's going to be $5 and not sell for obvious reasons and make them less likely to chance a ton of dlc. If they are smart Ghost mode should be free with spectator mode and replays included. Then sell the packs for like 120 xbl pts later.
The Marvel side votes disappoint me so much. Not even ONE Runaway? God damn. Strange and Green Goblin I'm okay with.
I believe you are over estimating the player bases interest in comics...
I don't even know who makes up the runaways group.

We really don't need anymore 90s era X-Men.
I've always hated the look of the character mostly. He looks like he fell out of a final fantasy game. Plus generic keep away spam character gameplay is already in the game a few times.
I loved the shape-shifting interpretation Capcom did with Venom. I always loved it when he did that in the comics but they never pushed it enough. Capcom's all "fuck it, let's turn him into a giant face, have lock-jawed tendrils that craw out of his shadow, make his heavy be a giant bite move, etc."
That's just so much fun to watch. I'd love to see Marvel animate him like that in one of their cartoons, but it'd probably be expensive as hell to do.

Iron Fist and then any of the Immortal Weapons. I'm not picky which but Fat Cobra would be most excellent.

It's just been a bad MvC3 night for me.
None of the characters I voted for made the top 20 on either list.
So... don't care.

I mean, I'm all for whatever, DLC is DLC, but I'd love to see some new faces.
Just went 2-3 with my Mags/Akuma/Trish team.
I'mstarting to get a better feel with them, and when I abandoned my shame of projectile spam, I won a quick two.
