I used to do some training back in my early 20's witha friend of mine who was a semi-pro boxer. I loved the workout but I never did anything other then some sparring.
I really want to get back into it again. I don't really think I want to fight but it is the best, most stress-relieving workout.
Boxing training isnt that brutal. No more brutal than any other sport really. The only difference is you aren't naturally used to the muscle movements. But after a couple of months when you wear out the kinks, it just becomes a hell of a workout and a great technical challenge.
I train in muay thai these days and that took the same kind of getting used to in terms of knees and kicks. Unfamiliar movements are tough for a while!
Also anyone of any age can start, and compete in boxing. It doesnt take all that long to learn a good foundation to build on, and from there you can compete in amateur fights at your own level. Good fun and good practice!
mike jones has 23 wins no losses, and 18 knockouts
damn.
round 1: soto karass lookin intense. jones deflecting and not keeping up his guard. karass throwing high shots mainly, jones keeping light on the counter punches. damn he's got great control and manuevering. damn, jones got some fast jabs. jesus throwing shitty counters, and slumps over jones after jones blasts him with great combinations. tries to take jones to the ropes and gets another damn combo.
he's moving around, keeping to the edge of the ring. swatting this jesus dude like a cat. end of round one. no clenching, they're feeling each other out
round 2: jesus putting more pressure, jones landing less. oooh. low glancing blow from jones. jesus is assertive as hell now, takes two to the head, keeps going. he's taking hits while trying to dictate the tempo, and doing more power shots to knock jones off balance as he keeps circling.
jones is still throwing right jabs, and gets stuck on the ropes but dodges those left and right hooks from karass. lands some more before the bell, notably a great unblocked snap jab. a better round for jones
jones' stance is too high, and his circling will catch up with him if he don't capitalize!
round 3: jesus is moving less as they exchange, and looks to throw better shots. got knocked in the left eye and he's cut. his last fight with jones had both eyes cut. jones is smashing that eye as much as he can. ref calls time and has the cutman attend. they're back at it. jones isn't unleashing on that shit in an obvious way. jesus has to throw tougher blows and he does. they're brawling for milliseconds at a time, and pulling back. oh shit, both eyes are cut now
and now they're arguing whether or not a headbutt occurred. karass wants to fight while his ring people throw a shitfit.
round 4: karass is determined, but not going in and taking him to the corner. aaaaaand the goddamn clinch. oh boy. jones throws more smart hooks, and has nothing but bleeding eyes to punch. jones keeps up with the strength of his jab and frustrates jesus with nothing but distance fighting. jones withstands a big right hand from jesus, dang. body shots from both as they go into a momentary clinch. turns out the headbutt might've been accidental, but the headbutt did in fact open the eye wide open
round 5: bop bop bop jesus keeps his head down and goes for body shots in an attempt to wear down the more at ease jones. bunch of hooks from jones and a few land on karass' jaw. double'd up jab on jesus' chin. some more head rockers from jones. jesus drops his guard and gives him the crazy face. jones unphased, as he blocks the big shots and as roy jones jr says, only takes the light jabs
round 6: jones is no longer fuckin around, a little more brazen with his punches while still circling the whole time. i guess he is from philly. man, my asshole itches. got straight left to the body from jones. the bleeding is getting worse after another lighting fast series of hooks from jones. do you notice a pattern forming with jones? blup blup i'm jesus soto karass punch me in the fucking gut, it gets me hard
round 7: sweet body punch from jesus, but thats enough of that. enough of bravery. so begins our dumb circular dance again. thud HIT ME AGAIN PLEASE says jesus. and jones does, with left jabs that smack of tomfoolery. their exchanges get a little more lively, with jones going with low weaves around jesus' punches. soto boto fuckin moto keeps his head down, like anne frank as the nazis circle her home. she clutches the rutger and punches mike jones in the face once after the bell.
jones ringman: he movin like a zombie, he movin like a zombie, he too slow. jesus ringman: CUT OFF THE CIRCLE, ARE YOU AWARE OF THE SHAPE OF A CIRCLE
round 8: jesus flips out in the first three seconds and continues playing into the old circle bit. soto karass takes a few in the hopes of landing a solid hook, doesn't and curses god. nothing but LEFT LEFT RIGHT JAB out of karass until he gets a good few body shots and the two are on the ropes. this shit is now officially boring. jones is not an exciting fighter. he is like post gulf war saddam. i suppose he did something? but nothing electrifying.
as we almost fall asleep from these boring later years of what should be a spectacular, evenly matched welterweight fight, i remember this is not the eighties, and none of these men have noticable venereal diseases
round 9: jesus staying low, tightening up his extensions into jones and the speed of his punches. jones is land great body punches he's been doing the whole fight. karass is now tired, weak and throwing wilder punches. his left eye is open again. both eyes now. mike jones is taking hits and throwing left short jabs into karass' face to complete this horrible circle of three things that are hurting the guy. his eyes, his body, and finally his head.
it's more of a technical fight now, instead of the stuff of fight films everyone gets a big rubbery one over. thankfully, less clinching. if jesus wants to beat jones, he's gotta literally murder him. otherwise, he's gonna go down from the carwreck that is his body. body shots over time equal you falling the hell down
round 10: jesus is taking more shit to the face as he comes to the grim realization that every shot jones takes from him is one he's taking on purpose, to land more on his body. karass is bleeding too much again, and the cutman is called out. really, they should call this shit at this point. with a little hustle jesus throws more wild right jabs. short right hook to soto karass' face. god dude just stop. good combo to the head from jones (WHAT, HOW) and we're nearly there. it's picked up but it's still a horror movie on this guy's face.
karass won't quit, and by god i can't fault him for it but he let this guy dictate the fight too long. jones is making him look foolish
round 11: karass is being ripped apart, barely able to defend on the ropes. all he's doing is bleeding out. his chest is just covered in blood. a brave warrior, but jesus dude dont get mush brain from this. a desperate clinch fro mkarass. he's taking more left jabs. jones keeps up a clean series of two left right combos in lieu of brute force to keep this shit going. karass' punches are now painful pawing motions
final round: karass is throwing everything he has at jones, going for brute shots to the jaw on jones that land wonderfully. he's got nothing to lose at this point. but he has no juice. jones keeps weaving back and upward away from awkward body shots from karass, and continues the routine. jones just lands combinations and waits for this to end, as jesus just lurches on. they smile as a show of respect to one another as fighters, but yeah this is jones' fight
jones had the foresight to know this time around the guy wasn't looking to go down at any point, so planned accordingly and went for a tight technical win where he kept burying this dude in body shots, shots to the wounded eyes, and punches to the head. mike jones gets it by unanimous decision
mike jones has 23 wins no losses, and 18 knockouts

my quips aside, watch out for this guy. his strategy of keeping folks at a distance has pangs of mayweather, but only pangs. i don't remember may taking that many hits (albeit not demolishing ones) to continue a strong keepaway fight

If you're not seeing double by about 5 minutes in, punch harder and faster...
