Man, I just beat the Spirit temple. Gotta say, I think that was my favorite dungeon so far in OoT. Now I just need to beat the Shadow temple and whoop me some Ganon.

Just beat the game. I think I'm going to play Twilight Princess now before going into Master Quest. I'm falling into a Zelda craze! But I really wanna play Wind Waker. Wind Waker is one of my favorite games of all time and I've never owned it.
Man, I just beat the Spirit temple. Gotta say, I think that was my favorite dungeon so far in OoT. Now I just need to beat the Shadow temple and whoop me some Ganon.
The Spirit Temple remains my favorite too. It's got a nice combination of puzzles and uses almost every item you get without most of the annoying enemies that I hate (most of which happen to be in the Shadow Temple).
Stupid Floormasters. I hate Floormasters. I always just kill them and then use Din's Fire rather than hunt down the little buggers.
Just beat Ocarina and I've been missing Wind Waker so I just popped it in for the first time in years.
Got it all up and I find my save files from 8 and 9 years ago, one of which is my fiancee's from when we were teenagers. I want to start a new game but I also hate to delete a file.
Really does not feel like that much time has passed, I feel all old now.
My roommate and I decided to bust out the NES and play through Zelda 2 a couple months back. One of the saved games was titled with my name, and the other was titled "Daddy"... it almost brought a tear to my eye. That saved game is from 1989. I was 6 years old! (28 now). I was blown away that it was still saved on that damned cartridge after all these years.
I took a picture of the screen and framed it for my Dad for Father's Day. He liked it.
That's pretty cool. If I can ever get my hands on my old NES games again, I wonder if any still have their original saves like that...
...not that my dad ever referred to himself as such, but...

The Spirit Temple reminded me of Tomb Raider a lot. The music, the decor and the awesome giant statues.
I just finished the spirit temple again last night
favourite dungeon aside from the forest temple, and I actually managed to get stuck once or twice and had to think through a puzzle, rather than just automatically see the trigger I needed to set off and immediately whip out the appropriate tool
Like that room with the 4 statues and the switch, where you had to lure one of them onto the switch. That one took me about 2 tries through the room, or the area where you have to jump onto the statues hand to progress
Man you guys are fast. I just got to the Zora area. I played OOT on the 64 way back when but never got very far (mainly borrowed from a friend and that kind of thing) but I did beat it on the gamecube disc. This still feels like a new experience for me, I don't remember where most of the secrets and such are, so it's been fun.
Infuriating to see heart pieces and have no clue how to get there though. (Like the one above Dodongo's Cavern)

About that heart piece:
Did you meet the fat guy who sells you magic beans?
Noticed the soft soil at the entrance of Dodongo's Cavern?
Magic beans take a looong time to grow.
Alternate solution:
When you get the bracelet that lets you pick bomb flowers and you toss the bomb to open Dodongo's dungeon, backflip over that lower part of the fence. You'll take a little damage, but presto, you're able to get that heart piece well before you're intended to!
Edit: Sporky beat me to it.

Yea, the backflip method is much easier to do...I don't think I've ever planted a bean in that soil...never needed to. :P
For those who are living vicariously through my Zelda playing, which I hope is no one:
Minish Cap: Finished the second dungeon. I like the weapon from that dungeon, though it's probably not terribly useful outside of a few obvious places. Keeping it vague to prevent spoiling it for...maximumzero I think? Whoever hadn't played it yet.
Majora's Mask: Finished Snowhead. Wow. That was pretty damned awesome. Now to get the gold dust. I hear it's difficult.
There is exactly one item in Minish Cap that is missable forever. Make sure you use the gust jar on
the ghost above a sick man before you reach the sky area, a house in the clouds.
On my first playthrough I didn't, somehow I couldn't figure out what to do and figured I could solve it with a later item. Then I came across it online and read that if you reach a specific point, it's too late and you will miss out on one item forever. And I had saved my game at exactly that point of no return. I didn't play the game again for years, still haven't beat it.
What is it that you missed Sporky? Not a game blocker, I hope.
Nah. I stopped playing just for the principle of the thing, the combination of a) only one item you can miss in the whole game and b) I saved at the exact point of no return, completely killed my motivation for playing. I'm a completionist like that. :P
It's the
Light Arrows, unnecessary but very powerful.
I mean, imagine if you could lock yourself out of getting Biggoron's Sword forever.
For more specifics on getting this item (copied from a forum):
In the first part of game, in Hyrule town, fuse kinstones until you open up a portal to the wind tribe's house near your house. You have to fuse a red kinstone with the stranger that lives in Hyrule Town, in the house that is located on the south side of the postal office, near Dr. Left's House.
Teleport and heal the old man in the bed by sucking up the ghost near him with your gust jar. At first, the gust jar seems useless, but keep trying.
You have to complete this subquest BEFORE going to Cloud Tops.
On your way to the Wind Temple, go back to the old man and he will give you light arrows.
I found out that the Razor Sword will not carry through a Song of Time trip. I know consumable items like arrows, bombs, rupees etc will not carry over, but the Razor Sword doesn't seem "consumable" even though it only has 100 uses. Are there any other ambiguous items that don't carry over? Specifically, does the gold dust carry over?

Yeah, that's why I'm asking. I need to forge the Razor Sword (got the money for that already), beat Goht again (not hard), and beat the Goron Rally (I hear it's hard) all before the 2nd day is over. Which honestly is a ton of time, but I just want to understand my options.
And thanks for the info. I probably would have SoT'd, lost the gold dust, and possibly raged a bit.

Are you slowing time down? You should have plenty of time if you do that. Goron race isn't too hard, I don't think it ever took me more than 2 tries to get the gold dust that way.
In case you don't know how to slow time:
You ought to be able to get Gyorg and the race whipped before sundown on the 1st day. I always devote that entire 3-day cycle to getting the gilded sword and call it good.
Recently I've been thinking about the way they hand out items in Zelda. Most of the time they dole them out pretty well, giving you the most often used items right away and the less significant ones later. You unlock big swaths of the world early on and often just one or two caves at a time by the end.
But some items feel like they just plain come too late in the game. By the time you get them you're like "geez, finally."
Zelda 1 - playing as a kid, trying to burn all the bushes, the Red Candle for sure. Unfortunately it requires the Whistle, which in turn requires the Stepladder, so you can't skip to it early like some of the other items.
LttP - I'd say the Blue Mail comes later than it ought to, it's not long after that you replace it with Red Mail and finish the game.
LA - the Hookshot is something you sorely need for a lot of the game but they give it to you about halfway through. I think this game actually has the best progression for unlocking sections of the world, not giving you too much or too little after every item. You find the Boomerang super late in this game compared to every other one, but it's not necessary; still it feels like it comes too late.
OoT - while you get the Hookshot pretty early it's almost useless in my opinion, the wait for the Longshot is unbearable.
WW - the Hookshot takes way too long to get. Maybe that's my fault for always exploring before doing all the dungeons. Second place goes to the Skull Hammer, there are a surprising amount of buttons to smash on random islands.
TL;DR I love the Hookshot I guess. Another item I always look forward to is the Pegasus Boots but you usually get those fairly early.

Is there any reason I shouldn't drop off my sword to get it turned into a Razor Sword after taking down Goht but before I do the race? That seems like the smart thing to do.
Yeah, that's a pretty efficient thing to do. I can't remember the exact process for gilding the sword too well; I blew through the game as quickly as I could the last time I played it (about a year ago), so I'm a little rusty.
Mixed up my weirdly-named MM bosses too. Gyorg's the dumb angler fish.
Speaking of boss names, was Dead Hand ever named in OoT? He's treated more like a miniboss, which he basically is, but I think that contributes to the creepiness of the fight. Exploring the bottom of a well, you stumble across a grasping, shuffling nameless horror...

He doesn't qualify as a miniboss, I don't think, because you run into him a few times in the Shadow Temple.
God I hate that guy.

I always hate the slingshot, its always the worst part of any game. Its even more useless than the Spinner or Rod of Dominion in Twilight Princess, worse than the Seed Shooter in every way in Oracle of Seasons, and tough to aim in OoT.
