Getting hit with a breastplate on will give you bruises just the same. It's the same reason why older infantry helmets are pretty useless against bullets. More a psychological shield than a real one.

I like that they made a conscious decision to make Geralt look as fucked up as a person in his line of work would logically look. He has stories*, I'm sure.

Really, the character design is fantastic across the board.

*I was going to post that one scene from Jaws where they compare their scars, but I can't find it for some stupid reason.

Considering he fights through everything from demons, to beast, to magic users to random human types and has likely been tortured once or twice plus there's the whole he got killed at one point his body is likely going to be hardly nice looking. Witchers don't get to have retirement you know.

It reminds me of how Conan was suppose to be a walking mess filled with cuts, scars all over his body considering how he lived according to his creator.

I'd think bruising would be preferable to claw scars all over your body. At least half of those marks are just from claws.

Aye. CD Projekt's done a phenomenal job with character design.

For those who have an interest in the lore and novels of the Witcher: I was browsing through neogaf's discussion thread, and found this image..

pretty neat, eh? The books are the Spanish translation of, Andrezj Sapkowski's "The Blood of Elves", and "The Sword of Destiny". The covers offers an interesting depiction of the characters in the Witcher lore (Yennefer and Dandelion) The artist, Alejandro Colucci, has several more covers as well, featuring Geralt, Triss, and Alvin etc. It'd be nice to see Yennefer make an appearance in Witcher 2.

he fights monsters for a living.

this is just part of the job description. he also has an altered physiology that lets him heal really fast. think wolverine only with scar tissue.

Those covers are quite different then the english versions which are quite cheap. For those who never read the Last Wish and Blood of Elves do so, they are highly worth it.

The Geralt and Yennefer covers are damn good, first time ever saw an image of Yennefer and Geralt actually looks like Geralt compared to that movie or TV show which I heard was horrible, he didn't look so good either.

The Sword of Destiny....if that's an entire other novel hopefully it gets translated in time.

Oh I'm aware. If I were him though, I'd prefer a bruise to a massive ass claw tearing up the side of my body. That's why I'd invest in some damn armour.

Armor is nice but considering what he does go up against armor likely makes little difference otherwise Witchers would be kind of pointless, hence why they were created in the first place. Otherwise normal troops etc would take care of the mess on any given day.

Makes me ecstatic. I heard that the two novels and a few short stories that were deemed non canon were the only Witcher material out there so hearing there is another book makes me very happy. Did it exist before the games or after? I heard the games helped to give quite a bit of popularity to the character etc.

Okay, here's what we do. One guy in plate armor in a cage with a tiger and a really fast guy in another cage with another tiger and we figure out who's more survivable. Whoever wins gets 300 orens. Orens are as good against the US dollar as they've ever been! I can't say exactly how many dollars that is, but trust me, bro, it's lots. You know I'm good for it. $100 entrance fee. No backsies.

Before the game was made. There was even a movie and a TV series (all in Polish of course) made before the game. Apparently they were awful.

I don't think it's going to be that taxing to produce those kinds of visuals. There's a lot to be said for a game built around the PC as a platform, instead of being ported - a lot more techniques can be used right from the start to make things run smoother.

I'm pretty confident that my computer (which isn't an uber leet gaming rig - just an Intel i5 quad core, 4GB RAM, Radeon 5850 Pro) will be able to get close to maximum graphics in this.

My friend is all like how he wants to get a GTX 590 to replace his current card and how it'll rule so hard. I had point out that he's running a freaking 19" monitor that does 1280x1024, and, clearly, it's just that sort of insane resolution that demands the full grunt of a 700 dollar GPU.

Haha, thats why i never b0ought a new gpu when building this PC. I figured it would be pointless as the max I can run is 1280x1024. Funnier still is that according to benchmark results, the 5570 (my card) works properly at 1920. Anything lower and the cpu has to pick up the load :\

you guys are forgetting how they managed get the kind of stuff out of the nwn1 engine in the witcher, they made their own fantastic looking engine straight after for exactly what they needed, they are like programming gods, i suspect as we will find out tomorrow that a decent modern rig will be able to max everything out no problem, im pretty sure i will be able to with my 6950-2gb. cd projeck are not lazy bastards.

I dunno if bringing up W1 is a great comparison, because that game was janky as hell when it first came out and its mass of technical problems were like the number one complaint levied against it at the time. But dropping the Aurora albatross certainly is a positive thing for 2 and I do expect it to be mind-blowing stuff. And, at the very least, they've shown that even if the product came out rough and ragged, they're willing to go above the call to make sure it becomes right.

I kind of thought the opposite. Origins was Bioware pulling a Witcher, but being all Bioware about it. DA2 felt more like a Black Isle legacy game. The direction the writing took was decidedly Avellone-ish.

ok.. what the hell is that anime looking screenshot? if theyve replaced the hand drawn cutscenes with fucking anime heads will roll.

It appears that instead of using watercolour illustrations to depict key moments in the story, CD Projekt has decided to use some form of *edit comic art style instead. It's not a confirmation though, and I could be wrong, we'll have to see.
