I was worried Raven's armor wouldn't look good... my worries were groundless.
I have 2.7 gigahtz, 3 gigs RAM, and an ATI radeon 5700 and it runs well on medium for me (it autodetected to low but the autodetector seems to be pretty cautious). I haven't tinkered with it more but I may try turning of vsync when I get home from work.
got it running via the main exe, runs fantasticly well, i have everything on ultra except for ubersampling, only at the intro tho and the lowest fps i got was 40.
this is on a quadcore with 6950-2gb though.
the import didnt seem to go well, i got ravens armour and the sword from the lady of the lake, my 17000 orens are now 250 and im missing my awesome sword i got from the dentist and the 3 meteorite rune sword, just have the standard witcher 2 one..
gonna try loading up with just one steel sword.

I stalled out in chapter 3 of the first Witcher. That's after finishing the swamp and getting into the higher class district. Is it worth going back and finishing it before playing the 2nd one? I'm not sure what happened but it felt like the game lost all it's momentum at that point.

ok so the Direct2Drive version is really weird. IT doesn't come with the license activator, it comes instead with a program that downloads a patch which installs the license activator.
it took me a good 6 or 7 tries before it was able to actually connect and download the patch. Thankfully I was able to activate the game no problem after it went through the process.
Getting god awful FPS with everything turned up max, going to try updating nvidia drivers and turning off SSAO to see if it helps. Anyone know if ubersampling is a big performance thing? And will SSAO ever not be an absurd performance drain? For the minimal stuff it does it seems bizarre for it to continuously be a problem with games.

ubersampling is the biggest hit.
It is for super computers only.

Not sure if you're hitting the same issue I was, but I was able to get around it by running in windowed mode rather than full screen. I've heard lowering the resolution of your computer (not of the game, but of your desktop) can also help. The problem is that now I'm at work and can't play .

Are you my clone living the same life sir?
I stopped at the same exact part.
I'm thinking of powering through it for the story and skipping sleeping with all the women in the game... I mean completing every side quest for powerups. :?

ok combat is awesome, acting and dialouge is like 1000s of itmes better, everything so far is better and better without changing the feel of the original, last time i remember this happening was with bg2.
on imported stuff, altho im not sure if im reading it wrong but the journal entry for geralt seems to suggest i did something i didnt do in the witcher 1
it seems to say i joined the squrriels but i didnt, i went neutral the way its worded though doesnt make it too clear

I'm running a 2600k/580gtx/8gbram PC and it's killing it, so you must be right.

For each frame it renders, that frame is made like 4 times over... on top of any other sampling or AA you are running. So.... yeah. its working it very very hard.

It is uber sampling from what I'm reading, that will drop your FPS big time, so turn it off unless you got a computer that is the spawn of God himself.
I'm actually a bit pleased in some sense I don't have the game yet, I don't have to deal with the first month blues so hopefully a patch or two will help things out by the time I get the game.
I turned off ubersampling but everything else is max/enabled, and now its running like butter. There's barely a difference with it turned off, I had to compare screenshots to tell.
This could be classified as gloating, but my 'Premium' (i.e. normal-priced) retail edition arrived today, and I'm really impressed with the feelies! I didn't realise that it came with an actual physical gold Oren, the papercraft figures are die-cut and from good stock (and completely hideous in a good way), and whilst the map isn't cloth it's printed on nice textured paper.
Only downside is that having a proper printed copy of the game walkthrough included in the box makes me much more likely to scum my way through when things get tough...
I know someone asked this, but the button to push to find clickable objects is Z.Geralt uses his medallion and you see a field projected around you, any items near you will then glow. THis doesn't seem to work very well with dropped bags though.
At least this sets in stone that my next GPU will be a Nvidia. Watching a stream now and hating myself for not upgrading my hardware at any point in the last four years like I planned on.
It's interesting how few sites, as in none, have reviews or previews of the game, I think that Atari kinda shafted CD Project on the marketing budget.
You see next to no marketing for it, looks no nobody except for that polish site got a pre copy of the game (in which case one of the guys that worked at CD probably walked it there).
It's a shame for such a quality product, of course, the real nice benefit is that when the tres awesome reviews come out, the reviewers can add a little link at the bottom for instant buying pleasure.
Sitting at work right now, but really looking forward to cracking this puppy open (with the original Polish voice/text pack) as soon as I get home. Woo!

Uh..what?
Previews have been everywhere, constantly, on damn near every gaming site on the web, for many many months. Most recently all the release preview builds they sent out to all the sites have been been popping up every day for the last week or two.
I see advertisements all over the place, but besides those and the never ending slew of screenshots and previews for the past damn near a year, there have been several live chats, press releases, launch videos, developer diaries, you name it it's been out there.
I've seen damn near as much on this game in the past couple months than I see for any other AAA release from a major publisher.
I'm not entirely sure what internet you're using, but it's clearly not the same one I am.
Aaaaaanyway, I still need to finish the witcher but I decided to just load up a new game in the witcher 2 and I can't get past the first area I'm not entirely sure what is killing me but I just keep falling over dead. THe first time I got caught on fire and that killed me damn near instantly, but after that as far as I could tell, there were no enemies left and I wasn't on fire and I'd just die. o_O
Got to Chapter 1 and am now settling in the town of Flotsam. The Witcher 2 is a phenomenal game so far!!
It's definitely worth the 3 years wait. The graphics, music, characters, and writing are just amazing - CD Projekt knows how to make a quality RPG. The combat is an improvement over the original Witcher, and the quick time events are fun too.
Also, that scene in the Solar left me speechless. Just wow, it's an incredibly emotional scene

core i7, gtx 580 (overclocked a bit), 8 gigs of RAM.. game runs awesome for me with everything maxed and ubersampling off. honestly, ubersampling is pretty silly.
anyway, do any protip dudes have advice for the combat? it's kicking my ass early on and I'm generally pretty good.
How does the Radeon 5850 compare to the Nvidia GTX 260? Someone I know is willing to give me their 5850 and the GTX 260 is what I have right now. Would that much of an upgrade? Keeping in mind my CPU is a huge ass bottleneck, an Intel C2D 2.2ghz. Hoping this would at least improve my frame rate a little bit on Witcher 2 and I am paying virtually nothing for the card.
