It's interesting how few sites, as in none, have reviews or previews of the game, I think that Atari kinda shafted CD Project on the marketing budget.
You see next to no marketing for it, looks no nobody except for that polish site got a pre copy of the game (in which case one of the guys that worked at CD probably walked it there).
It's a shame for such a quality product, of course, the real nice benefit is that when the tres awesome reviews come out, the reviewers can add a little link at the bottom for instant buying pleasure.
Sitting at work right now, but really looking forward to cracking this puppy open (with the original Polish voice/text pack) as soon as I get home. Woo!
Uh..what?
Previews have been everywhere, constantly, on damn near every gaming site on the web, for many many months. Most recently all the release preview builds they sent out to all the sites have been been popping up every day for the last week or two.
I see advertisements all over the place, but besides those and the never ending slew of screenshots and previews for the past damn near a year, there have been several live chats, press releases, launch videos, developer diaries, you name it it's been out there.
I've seen damn near as much on this game in the past couple months than I see for any other AAA release from a major publisher.
I'm not entirely sure what internet you're using, but it's clearly not the same one I am.
Aaaaaanyway, I still need to finish the witcher but I decided to just load up a new game in the witcher 2 and I can't get past the first area I'm not entirely sure what is killing me but I just keep falling over dead. THe first time I got caught on fire and that killed me damn near instantly, but after that as far as I could tell, there were no enemies left and I wasn't on fire and I'd just die. o_O
Well, I’m afraid our code only unlocked at midday yesterday, and I’m not going to rush this for anyone. We’d been told to expect to get the game last week, but CD Projekt later insisted that RPS, Eurogamer, and a number of other online outlets wait for their day zero patch, which they completed on Sunday. You will see some print magazine reviews go up today, these are based on early code which CDP described to us as “outdated”.
core i7, gtx 580 (overclocked a bit), 8 gigs of RAM.. game runs awesome for me with everything maxed and ubersampling off. honestly, ubersampling is pretty silly.
anyway, do any protip dudes have advice for the combat? it's kicking my ass early on and I'm generally pretty good.

Got to Chapter 1 and am now settling in the town of Flotsam. The Witcher 2 is a phenomenal game so far!!
It's definitely worth the 3 years wait. The graphics, music, characters, and writing are just amazing - CD Projekt knows how to make a quality RPG. The combat is an improvement over the original Witcher, and the quick time events are fun too.
Also, that scene in the Solar left me speechless. Just wow, it's an incredibly emotional scene
Holy shit dude I know did not see that shit coming
I have an unlocked Phenom 2 720 x4 and a 5770 with a 1680x1050 monitor. Anyone with a 5770 played yet and can comment on performanace? That bench a few pages back is not exactly heartening.

I have a 5770 and the performance so far is utterly dire. I have the same fps pretty much on low or ultra. I think there is an issue with the game/drivers at the moment. Or at least, I hope thats the reason. I can play in windowed mode a bit better, but still not ideal.
Pretty sure someone proved that that wasn't the bioware employee who was caught and just a troll account.
Anyways, my 8800 GTX weeps at the thought of this game, and so does my wallet. I think I may have to wait for a sale. I am jelly of all dudes and dudettes in this topic.
Does the interconnection between doorways only work in some instances, and not all? I'm noticing that the screen turns black for an instant when i walk through doors in relation to houses/inns, but in the outdoor environment this doesn't occur?

How does the Radeon 5850 compare to the Nvidia GTX 260? Someone I know is willing to give me their 5850 and the GTX 260 is what I have right now. Would that much of an upgrade? Keeping in mind my CPU is a huge ass bottleneck, an Intel C2D 2.2ghz. Hoping this would at least improve my frame rate a little bit on Witcher 2 and I am paying virtually nothing for the card.
You will see a reasonably big improvement with a 5850. The 260 is a generation or so behind the 5850. Plus you will get DX 11 with the 5850, you wont with the 260. You should really take him up on the deal. Also your C2D though, as a note, be holding you back some, thats getting fairly old now. Regardless though the 5850 will be an improvement.
God I am glad i heavily upgraded my PC over the past 2 weeks.
game is rocking my socks off, im in chapter 1 now, runs great at 30-40fps with everything on ultra (except ubersampling lol)
its abit hard too, even on normal, which is awesome.
one thing that did just piss me off though and totally broke my immersion in early chapter 1
i go to the notice board, start reading and taking contracts, i get to the last contract, a troll one, read it and tells me to go online and sigh up to have access to the contract, almost da:o like.. not a biggy but still annoying, reminded me that i should exit and probably check if said dlc has finished downloading heh.
Well I have everything on Ultra (except ubersampling), and I'm doing alright. I'm not sure my framerate but it isn't dragging or anything like that. Super playable!

Only 2 critic reviews, that's next to nothing. Lots of screeshots and interviews etc. But no one expect for a few select places did a review/preview.
Compare that to L.A Noir, both came out today, but LA has 24 reviews etc. Draw your own conclusions.
Draw my own conclusions about what exactly?
That there aren't a slew of reviews the morning the game is released? That previews everywhere have been fawning over the game for ages now? That no one is questioning whether or not CDProject isn't Activision and can't throw around absurd amounts of cash to have reviews the second the game is in stores?
I'm not sure what you're trying to get at at all. You said that you feel like they're not advertising the game at all which is just verifiably false. The lack of reviews this morning doesn't bode good or bad for the game, it will inevitably garner great reviews, probably better than most really high profile games with big budgets. But is it a game that has the CoD appeal? No. Is it a game that is a sequel in a long series of highly successful games like GTA or something from Rockstar like L.A. Noir? No.
Yo, Nvidia people, how have you got AA working? The in-engine option is a bit shit so I tried 32xAA in both the profile and general tabs of the control panel but it's not as good as I hoped nor is there a massive performance drop. Runs at 60FPS solidly, maxed out (without ubersampling), 16x10, with my GTX480.
Also, re the end of the prologue:
I immediately thought the monk looked a bit fishy but as the scene went on I figured maybe he was kosher, THEN, I saw his lower face and, IT WAS THE KINGSLAYER! HOLY SHIT, NOT FOLTEST! Noooooo!
I was not expecting that, despite seeing a lot of preview stuff.
I'm so excited to play this! So excited, apparently, that I didn't sleep properly last night and now I'm too tired to concentrate. Pah. So instead of playing the game, I'm amusing myself by fiddling with graphics settings. With a baseline FPS of 40, here's some of my more interesting results:
Enabling AA drops FPS to 34. Not a bad trade-off, I feel. Interestingly, when you turn on AA, the game also enables a sharpening filter. This is a good idea, in theory, except it makes the noise from shadow edges and LOD changes really, really obvious. I'd recommend hitting the user.ini file to turn off the sharpening manually.
Turning on light shafts causes a drop of 1-2 FPS, even when looking away from the sun. I think I'm going to leave this off.
Enabling ambient occlusion is a bit of a killer and drops me to 31 FPS. I'm probably going to leave this off, despite it looking nice.
Turning on gameplay DOF doesn't appear to do anything to the scene I'm testing. Perhaps it's not used out of combat?
LOD distance and texture memory seem to make no difference to me. I'm guessing this is memory related, so there's no middle ground - you've either got enough or you haven't.
Motion blur gives a solid 10+ FPS hit when in use. Considering it's a only basic camera-based blur, this is definitely staying disabled!
This is with a HD 4890 using some older 10.5 drivers on Windows 7 x64. Don't know if any of this helps anyone, but I felt I ought to contribute something!
Wow dude, chill out, geez, did I kick your dog or hit on your wife?
Not putting the Witcher down or nothing (shit, I'm Polish, I'm all for my fellow poles getting a win), just saying that Atari wasn't helping them much. The other side of the coin will be that this becoming a massive hit will be even better because there wasn't that much marketing for it etc.
Damn, tone down the fanboyism, it's like saying anything remotely negative about DA2 on the bioware forums...
Is anyone else having trouble installing using gog's installer? It's all downloaded, and there's an install button on the downloader, but nothing happens when I click it. I tried it in administrator mode, but then it doesn't recognize the game as downloaded.

I had this problem too. Just browse to the download folder and use the installer from there.

I ran into this exact same problem, but it's easy enough to fix: head into your GoG download location and you should find a file called "setup_the_witcher_2.exe" in there. Run this, and it'll install the game like any other GoG download.
For the FPS readout, I used ATI Tray Tools. Haven't seen any kind of in-game jobby so far.

As I understand it, CD Projekt didn't send out early review copies. Major reviewers were able to start playing at the same time everyone else was.
Steam - Wildschwein | The Backlog
Grappling Hook Showdown - Tumblr
CD Projekt apparently really wanted the review sites to play the game with the day zero patch before writing their reviews.
Fuckers.

Youtube Channel!
it makes no sense other wise.
No DOF accross the board, no uber, med shadows, high shadow light, no vsync => 30-40 FPS
All DOF ON, rest same w. Vsync => 30-40 fps.
WTF?
that will get ironed out. bet on it.
ughhhhhhhh
not sure if there is merrit to this or not... oddness!
