[Alice: Madness Returns] 'I don't want to go among mad people...'
Thats right folks, a sequel to the cult PC game 'American McGees Alice' is in development as we speak.
From Wiki:
Madness Returns takes place eleven years after the events of its predecessor, the same amount of time between the two games' releases. Alice has been released from Rutledge Asylum and into the care of a London psychiatrist, where the traumatic memories of her parents' deaths continue to haunt her. As a result of her relocation, her hallucinations and internal struggle have increased in severity, and she returns to Wonderland in hopes of security and comfort. However, it has once again become warped by her insanity, and she must save its residents and herself from the evil that is taking over Wonderland and also embarks finding the true cause of her family's mysterious deaths.
The soundtrack is wonderfully atmospheric. If they get that right in the sequel that'll be half the job done. Judging by the music at the end of the trailer there I have high hopes...
The point of the first one was not the gameplay mechanics. It was the atmosphere. I don't mind if this game is shallow, short or even unrewarding. I hope it looks good and exudes tone.
EA is missing on a prime opportunity by not re-releasing the original game on XBLA and PSN. Not only is the PC game almost a decade old but it's out of print and I doubt most of the folks that would be potential targets for this sequel have never played the original game.
Is it just me or does her hair look fantastic? Fantastic in the way that most video game hair is complete garbage, and her hair is being blown around by wind and falling into her eyes and generally looks really impressive.
Sold on this game after that AMA. Looks great, and I could use what appears to be a solid platformer in my collection.
The whole premise of, "let's make a DARK version of Alice in Wonderland :twisted::twisted:" seems sort of fucked considering that the actual original story was always dark and psychedelic to begin with, it just didn't have a big infusion of Hot Topic along with it.
Could be fun anyway. McGee's Alice 1 was sort of a C-grade platformer with A-quality art. Alice's movement looks really slippery in this; her feet skate around on the floor a lot and her animations often don't sync up with how the character is actually moving.
But there isn't even really a "wholesome" version of Alice's Adventures in Wonderland, unless you count Disney's version, and then why would you want to do that? The books are still widely read.

Most of the original stories in such tales were dark but changed and edited until we got the wholesome versions we do today, few know that.
You think many people want to tell kids about how Prince Charming actually rapes Sleeping Beauty.
To be fair, that's only the pre-written version. The earliest version of Sleeping Beauty in print was a lot closer to what we've got now.
Also, even fewer people know that the brothers Grimm edited their own collection for children, which is hardly something you can blame on later generations.
The original Goldilocks, though? Now there's a dramatic difference.
I had an incredible amount of fun in the first game, I loved the idea of screwing up a fairy tale. I hope this one delivers, but from the screen shots it looks very atmospheric.
I usually avoid both Gamestop and preordering like the plague, but I broke for this game. I'm not forseeing my Best Buy stocking any significant numbers, and I want this day one.
I still have a complete version of the original sitting in my closet. It's one of the few older PC games I didn't toss the box for. I can't believe it hasn't shown up on GoG or Steam yet.
I'm cautiously optimistic about this. Everything American McGee worked on after Alice was mediocre at best.. but I'll probably end up getting it near launch anyway since I liked the first one so much. Especially if it ends up on Steam with a pre-order discount.
18 quid is a steal. It can go next to my figures of Alice and the Cat
I'm actually in the middle of watching your Alice LP Helloween. :-)
I need to check this out. My girlfriend and I have been watching the Amnesia LP together and loving it. It's the only thing I know of that can make me go from crapping my pants in terror to laughing myself stupid all within the span of a few seconds.
I'll probably get that art book too. They're one of my big weaknesses when it comes to spending money on things I don't really need.

The soundtrack, however, is available on iTunes. Easily the best part of the game.
1 - How old is Alice? She's showing an awful lot of thigh in the third trailer.
and
2 - How is a raven like a writing desk?

'Why is a raven like a writing desk?'
This should go perfect with the game then....

(hope I don't get in trouble for that)
New gameplay demos.
Looks just like the original, gameplay wise. Thankfully.
I can't hear Cheshire's voice, but they better not botch it.

And I'm one of 'em.

And yes, doesn't look like much has changed. Liking the new weapons though.
Cheshire!
Also, yes. This needs to be available somewhere, seriously, gog.com, steam, XBLA, PSN, whatever just put it somewhere so I can buy it again.

So hype for this.

The whole thing does look good, passing up the original was always a regret of mine.

Even the Disney version is trippy as hell.

Looking forward to this game.
