Guys, we should talk about how if you play a mage, in the exaggerated opening, Hawke has a staff shaped like a dragon's mouth at one end and that's where the fire comes out of.
Seriously though...I wonder if your siblings get their own personal combat trees.
I mean it won't be a horrible loss, but it'll annoy me.
The theory is apparently that they will get them at a later point in the story. Apparently one of the devs said they don't have them for "story reasons" so that got turned into "they never had to specialize while in Lothering but will in Kirkwall."
it's hard to judge either of them this early on but if the tension between mage hawke and carver in the trailers is any indication it'll be a pretty interesting relationship
whereas bethany doesn't seem to have much going on

I have to say, and it was what I was fearing from the released screens and trailers and such... I just don't like this game aesthetically. The gameplay is great, no real complaints there. It seems like a great game. And I don't even really expect to hear a great story from a game, but god damn if the artistic style isn't bland. I mean, both Mass Effects had style. DA one had enough to feel right. So where did the care for that go? If anything I would hope that with sequels and such that element becomes more refined and cared for, but it seems like it was the very last priority here. I'm just an artist though, so my reasons for playing games might differ from most. I want to feel like I'm in a new world... then wrecking monsters shit becomes more meaningful. If it's the apocalpyse n' shit outside Lothering why not have some dramatic lighting or clouds or features in the landscape that stand out more than 'generic fantasy ruin'? But as I said, it seems like a very enjoyable game and I'm glad to see smooth combat like this. I just want higher aesthetic standards for such well-developed games.
Personally, I was wondering which Dark Spawn caste's job it was to strip the meat from all those skulls and plant them on stakes.
That must be the worst job ever.
Nah, Dark Spawn eat flesh.
The skull stakers get all the yummy brains.

Okay, what's up with Hawke's face marking/scar across the bridge of his nose? In some scenes it's there, in others (mostly during conversations), it's gone. There doesn't seem to be any rhyme or reason to it.

I'm just hoping we get the promo armor at some point during the main game.

It's some random blood smear that you can turn on or off in the character creator.
Off is the only correct option...then again it does make the romance scenes hilarious (or...more hilarious I guess)

I like the aesthetic a hell lot more than the first game. I am also an artist :P
I can't disagree with you more about it having no style.

Its only even an option on the default faces anyways.

It definitely has a style, but I'm not convinced that the style is better
ok, i downloaded and installed the PC demo. booted it up, switched all settings to very high because my PC can handle it.
the DX11 renderer is bugged to hell and back. black textures, 2 frames per second.
so i switch to DX9 and try again. i can't even properly move in combat, WASD does some kind of RE-style tank controls. is there any way i can get this to control normally?

So, it appears/disappears with normal blood when turned on, then?

No, it's only there if you have it on and in the opening. You do get covered in blood during regular combat, but it isn't the streak across the nose.

is there a way i can get my 360 controller for windows working with the PC demo? it didn't seem to recognize it, and this 'right click and wait' thing is getting old FAST.

Press 'R' to auto-target without clicking. And I'm pretty sure controllers are not supported.
Yeah... maybe I shouldn't have said that the style is gone, just that I don't care for where they've taken it. It seems now like an action movie style, or a comic book style, focused entirely too much on badass dudes killing shit. Being a bad-ass dude killing shit is like... a mode that's simply there in most games of most genres these days. It's the trappings of how games have been made so far that such a mode is so useful in making a player feel powerful, and I wouldn't expect that particular tradition to be suddenly usurped successfully. It may never be usurped as much as supplemented. But as a mode it doesn't stop you from crafting an otherwise aesthetically superb or interesting setting/world/story/collection of ideas. For the world one, I point to Guild Wars/2. I see very little of that here, though from what I saw the storytelling etc is interesting enough to watch unfold. I mean, what's so interesting about violence?
I mean... not asking a general question... right... not supposed to derail... HOW BOUT THAT UI DESIGN? It's pretty good.

No, I was staring at the obviously exposed ass, and when it wasn't on screen I was looking for it.
Well it is, because I could turn it on in the config menu.
anyway yeah, good to know, thanks.
This is a good way to balance mages I think
The actual implimentation isn't. Which is why it's bugged

Varrick can't exaggerate him like he can Bethany.
1) He's a two-handed warrior and they feel gimpy
2) He looks generic
3) He doesn't have breasts
4) He's not a mage
5) He doesn't have breasts

That must be the worst job ever.
Aside from Bethany's assets, her design is a lot more interesting, her outfit is more distinct. She actually seems like a character.
That and the hetero bias, but this is the video game industry, what do we expect.

I really like how it looks.
Plus, I don't think it'd actually be all that difficult. Just boil that shit for a couple weeks in a giant pot. It'll fall right off!

Something is calling me back to the demo, and I don't think it's the shield bashing.
