The Guiding Principles and New Rules document is now in effect.
I've been trying unsuccessfully to run both Condemned and F.E.A.R. on my PC. On launch, the screen changes resolution and goes black, then nothing. I have to ALT-TAB to shut down the program. This happens with both full and demo versions.
Publisher support forums say the common cause of this issue in both games is the ACE Mega codecs pack, but I don't currently, nor have I ever had this installed. The issue has persisted since I put in a new video card (before, a 6800GS, now an X1950PRO). Is anyone aware of a specific codec causing this, or anything else I can try to fix it?
Ideally, you should reinstall windows after changing a video card to one from another manufacturer, as often there will be some crap left over even after uninstalling the previous drivers.
You can also use the older, free version of Driver Cleaner Pro to remove any left-over junk. I suggest removing your current drivers also and cleaning any stuff they might have left over and reinstalling them.
If that doesn't work then you can try uninstalling any codecs you might have, if you can't find an option to do that then CCCP has an app called Insurgent that should help you remove that. Their "codec pack" is also pretty spiffy, as it uses a single "codec" to decode most AV files.
