have people actually been bugging you about this show outside of this thread
YES
i've been getting PMs and MSN messages and shit since the show got big
people are like "PONY HURR DURRR I HEARD YOU LIKE PONIES YOU SHOULD WATCH THIS"
guys
guys you know the whole MLP aspect of my forum identity is a gag, right? it's always been a big ironic joke. i don't care about MLP, i have a sig and av of pink and blue ponies prancing around because it contrasts with the fact that i'm an aggressive loudmouth jerk-ass. it's a joke.
fans of the new series have also been choking up the D&D western animation thread and occasionally D&D chat with it and it's like
yeah well maybe some of you should stop PMing me about it and shit, ok
i've actually gotten to a point of choosing not to watch it and kind of frowning at the fans just because of the behavior of some of you
Man if you are getting PMs about this report it to the mods.

Dear Pony,
I did not realize that people were practically harassing you over this show. I understand how that would be incredibly irritating.
On behalf of all of them, I would like to offer my apologies for drowning you in Pony propaganda.
It is just a silly cartoon and I thought you might like it. I hope that people stop bothering you about it. Perhaps someday you might be able to enjoy it once the fandom calms down a bit.

Yeah, unwarranted PMs are going too far.
Although, talking about it in the Western Animation thread seems pretty fucking reasonable (although I have never been in that thread), since it's a show. From the West. Which is animated. Seems like banning ponies from the D&D Western Animation thread is the same damn thing as banning them from /co/. But again, I've never been in that thread, maybe people were being unreasonable, I dunno.

s'cool, geek, i don't think this was some kind of concerted effort, just a lot of enthusiastic fans
they all seem to be acting independently and they all seem to mean well, i'm just tired of it.
i'm pretty tired of this account and persona anyway, i'm going to be ditching all the MLP shit regardless
also
what's bolded is what is likely to happen. i didn't get into Avatar until after everyone stopped circle-jerking about it, didn't watch Dr. Horrible until like two years after it came out, etc.
when people get enthusiastic about shit to this level my instinctive response is to walk away from it, maybe check it out later when the fans stop being insane.

It wasn't really banned so much as the mod in that thread going, "Could you take this somewhere else? It's uncomfortable."
And his problems aren't going to be representative of the average person's grievances with the show considering the number of people with Pony in their usernames is going to be one.
There hasn't been much derailing of threads onto My Little Pony anywhere on this forum.
i liked it. NPH is pretty great and Nathan Fillion did a good job of hamming. Felicia Day was... there?
but it was not the greatest fucking thing in the universe like how the internet was reacting to it. that's why i walk away from these things and come back later. the hoopla overblows how good the thing actually is, creates unreasonable expectations, etc.
if i walk away, come back to something when the buzz has died down some, i can look at it a little more evenly

But the point is that it would have been banned if it continued. instead Sabre did a nice move in making the SE++ and everything transferred there smoothly.
to be fair to Will he just recently had to deal with some very ugly business resulting from a bunch of grown men watching a cartoon intended for little kids.
it resulted in splinter forums and mass PMs and alt accounts and a bunch of drama and bullshit. you guys are not the same as the anime thread people but it's not hard to see it from Will's end and understand why he just doesn't want to deal with something that, on the surface, seems like a similar issue.
I'm hawking NicoNico right now to see if the Ponies will cross the pond. Nothing yet. I may have to subtitle an episode and post it there. Sad thing is my Japanese grammar sucks.
are you referring to the anime thread? I don't remember that ugly stuff, but I wasn't really part of the thread for almost a year before it went away.
yes, I'm referring to the anime thread. Recently (you weren't really a part of this) it took a turn for the really fucking creepy when certain people started outright praising things like loli anime, and started posting NSFW gifs and shit.
Will got sick of it, not because he kept dealing with reported posts from it, but because nobody was reporting anything. It actually took a couple days for the NSFW gif to be reported, because the majority of the people in the anime thread clearly had no real problems with the creepy people posting in it.
Will was like "Alright, fuck it, no more anime thread", and the creepy people made a splinter forum where they bitched about Will and tried to gather evidence of how he's a bad mod and has always hated anime.
It's been a giant head-ache for him, so, I understand why he saw something that looks superficially similar with MLP and was like "No, please, not here"
In Japan, the My Little Pony franchise is licensed to Takara-Tomy. Hasbro and TT seem to have a strong cross-licensing agreement when it comes to each other products. Sadly, when TT merged, a lot of their brands were "locked up" by management. MLP seems to be one of them. We'll have to see of this crosses the pond or not...
You know what, I'm sending a resume to Hasbro.

I kinda want to make a Phineas and Ferb thread since it's now all available streaming on Netflix, but I only just made that Thundercats thread and I already get enough heat here for enjoying cartoons.
Because I've been here long enough and (honestly not trying to sound immodest here) have a fairly high level of visibility due to that fact, I have kinda become the poster boy for silly man-child type people at this forum.
I'm pretty cool with that, but some people focus only on my enjoyment of toons and never seem to be able to get past that and realize that I do have other likes as well. Though I acknowledge that a fair amount of the blame for that is squarely on my own shoulders, since I do tend to espouse the virtues of quality animation as a large part of my postings. There have been some people where it seems their entire interaction with me at any given point is to rudely say that my thoughts on any other subject have no merit whatsoever because I like cartoons. Or indeed that I can't possibly like any "adult" forms of entertainment because I enjoy entertainment that is generally targeted at young audiences.
I'm a pretty laid back dude and most of the time these things don't bother me, but every now and then, I discover that there are a couple of people that absolutely loathe me for this reason and believe I cannot have any valid opinion on anything else at all because I take great joy in cartoons. I generally don't even bother replying to those people, but I do realize that it's a good idea to tone down the "cartoon rhetoric", if you will, every now and then.

On a related note, when I mentioned in a facebook post that all of P&F is on Netflix, I found out that my freshman high school english teacher is a fan of the show.

I think I quoted something similar to this last thread.
The modern view seems to me to involve a false conception of growth. They accuse us of arrested development because we have not lost a taste we had in childhood. But surely arrested development consists not in refusing to lose old things but in failing to add new things? I now like hock, which I am sure I should not have liked as a child. But I still like lemon-squash. I call this growth or development because I have been enriched: where I formerly had only one pleasure, I now have two. But if I had to lose the taste for lemon-squash before I acquired the taste for hock, that would not be growth but simple change.
I now enjoy Tolstoy and Jane Austen and Trollope as well as fairy tales and I call that growth: if I had had to lose the fairy tales in order to acquire the novelists, I would not say that I had grown but only that I had changed. A tree grows because it adds rings: a train doesn't grow by leaving one station behind and puffing on to the next. In reality, the case is stronger and more complicated than this. I think my growth is just as apparent when I now read the fairy tales as when I read the novelists, for I now enjoy the fairy tales better than I did in childhood; being now able to put more in, of course I get more out. But I do not here stress that point.
Even if it were merely a taste for grown-up literature added to an unchanged taste for children's literature, addition would still be entitled to the name 'growth', and the process of merely dropping one parcel when you pick up another would not. It is, of course, true that the process of growing does, incidentally and unfortunately, involve some more losses. But that is not the essence of growth, certainly not what makes growth admirable or desirable. If it were, if to drop parcels and to leave stations behind were the essence and virtue of growth, why should we stop at the adult? Why should not senile be equally a term of approval? Why are we not to be congratulated on losing our teeth and hair? Some critics seem to confuse growth with the cost of growth and also to wish to make that cost far higher than, in nature, it need be.
Ah, apocalypse ponies . . . I designed a set of those once, and actually got around to making Death and Famine. I'll have to dig them out of the closet at some point.
I just found this thread recently, I've just watched the first several episodes and I just want to note a couple of things:
A) Thank you all for bringing this bit of wonderful amusement to my attention. That is an -wonderful- quote Sabre. Thank you for bringing it to my attention.
C) yay!
D) Completely random...my sister once had over 300 distinctly different My Little Ponies at once point. Most are now sold, but that's being a collector! I guess I'm bragging on her behalf? hah...

Sabre, that is generally my philosophy most of the time. I once got into an argument with someone here about how just because one may enjoy fancy homemade high quality mac and cheese, it doesnt automatically mean that one is no longer allowed to enjoy cheapy box mac and cheese. Every now and then though, I try not to go overboard on the toon stuff because I know it can be irritating to others and I am one of those personality types that always tries to make sure other people are happy or at least not irritated.

dang, I'm sorry
that would get really annoying
I don't think this is true, though
