Ooooh, I wonder what this year's controversial shocking twist will be!
Meanwhile, the PA guys are weighing in on Zynga-style in-game microtransactions with a comic that could be pulled faster than the Strawberry Shortcake one:
I swear, two-thirds of the top 25 highest-grossing iPhone games are "free" games at this point.
Thanks Sporky. I am almost done playing through Hotel Dusk again to prepare for this one.
A few questions for you:
How long did the shipping generally take?
In Last Window, how many returning characters are there? I mean, does Louie at least make an appearance?
Something crazy like 3 to 5 weeks I think. I just ordered it and forgot about it because I knew it would be a long time.
The only returning characters are the Red Crown employees (your boss and secretary) and another character. No Louie, but there's a sort of replacement for him. You probably won't miss the characters that don't return, it's a great game of its own accord.

Exactly a week after Bizarre Studios closed its doors for the final time an all-new studio has risen from its ashes.
After a three month consultation period Activision closed down Bizarre Creations last week, putting an end to nearly twenty years of history from the Liverpool studio that spawned the Project Gotham and Geometry Wars series among other hits.
Lucid is formed from former staff at studio, and is headed up by Pete Wallace. "With the great history of Bizarre behind us, we are proud to be part of Lucid and are committed to the UK game development community," said Wallace, "We plan to build a studio which encourages open communication with its partners, customers and other developers."
Although no titles have been announced just yet the studio is in talks with several major publishers about pursuing projects, and it's actively hiring in the Liverpool area.
There's a 99% chance it won't be localized, just like the Wii sequel to Trace Memory (Another Code). For one thing Cing is no longer a company, Last Window was their swan song.

But I will reiterate that Last Window is an awesome game if you liked Hotel Dusk, the english translation is just fine, it's well worth importing. It should even still work on 3DS since original DS games don't have any region locking in place.
I'm not worried about any of that. I 'imported' the EU version of Shenmue 2 for the Dreamcast back in the day. That's not an issue. Neither is the system to use it on.
I just like trying to support well-made, non-traditional game experiences.

Hotel Dusk is one of the games in my top five favorite games on the DS. I'm working on playing through it a second time right now. I cannot wait to play the second game, and I'm still hugely sad that a talented studio like Cing no longer exists.
Hotel Dusk had everything: A great story, fantastically fleshed out characters, fun puzzles, a satisfying ending for both the game, and for the various storylines each character had. All around an awesome experience. If Last Window just matches the quality of Hotel Dusk, I'll love it. I need more adventures of Kyle Hyde gal dernnit!
News Corp picks up Making Fun with a view to dominate social gaming
Rupert Murdoch's media empire News Corp has made a move on the games industry by purchasing San Francisco social start-up Making Fun.
The studio, reports VentureBeat, is headed up by PlayFirst co-founder John Welch and Twofish co-founder Lee Crawford, and has previously created games for brands including theme park giant Six Flags.
According to Welch Making Fun will develop titles for a range of platforms including social networking sites, smartphones and tablets, and will also act as News Corp's game publishing arm. He has additionally revealed the sale to News Corp came about as a response to the dominance of the social space by both Zynga and ngmoco.
“Our goal is not to out-Zynga Zynga,” Welch has stated. “We’ve done games like Diner Dash that have gotten hundreds of millions of people. We are looking at the next games that could get those kinds of audiences.
Making Fun currently has three projects underway, and is looking to work with developers, with a view to consider acquisition. It's first games are due in the summer.
“News Corp is patient,” stated Welch. “It wants to get into games, but not by spending a massive amount of money very quickly. It is willing to grow organically and start slow. On the other hand, News Corp doesn’t make investments so that it can create slow-growing businesses.”
They're.... they're not dropping the price of the Go? Yet they're somehow keeping that turkey on store shelves? Wow.
Anyway, apparently Gunstringer will be the first, ah, non-casual Kinect game (assuming you don't count that horrible Kinect minigame in the latest Harry Potter, which you shouldn't). Here's how Twisted Pixel got it to work.
You're going to have to hold your arms out in front of you: your left arm is controlling the puppet strings and your right is aiming the a six shooter. The first order of business is to raise your left arm high into the air and pull The Gunstringer out of his shallow grave.
This is an onrailson-rails shooter for the most part (there are also 2D platforming sections but I haven't seen them, yet) with the camera following behind our hero as he runs through the Old West dodging boulders, hopping over fences, and weaving in and out of slow-moving bullets. Quickly lifting your left arm will get The Gunstringer to jump. He can lock onto multiple enemies at once, which is done by simply passing your crosshairs over them with your right arm. To fire -- and this is the part I really enjoyed -- you quickly bend your right arm so that your fingers are pointing at the ceiling. Making a gun shape with your hand isn't necessary, but earns you extra cool points in my book.

'We're cheap and think this is a way to make massive amounts of money for little investment! Clearly we think the proles are idiots anyway!'
Having to hold your left arm up and out is going to get really tiring, really fast. I mean, I just held my arm up like that for about a minute, and while it's not hurting or anything, it is starting to feel a bit bothersome. Enough to make me want to put my arm down and play something else.

I bet you you were focusing on your arm because holding it up at nothing has to be incredibly boring, so there's not much to distract you from the fact it gets sore.
I'm hoping that shooting up cowboy puppets will distract me from the mild muscle strain. Just like tapping my foot for 2 hours makes my calves sore, but playing Rock Band bass drums for 2 hours I never even notice.

It should last a bit longer if it's actually moving around, which it will be.

It's not the distraction, but the resistance.
I still remember an early demo on some late-night program where they had people playing one of the Burnout games to show that Natal (at the time) worked with older games. And they had the people stand there in a sleepwalking pose and their right foot held in the air. It worked, but looked uncomfortable as all hell.
If you want a better experience to get what The Wolfman is talking about, play RB drums but keep your foot raised in the air between hits instead of down. That is where the pain and tiredness would come from. The lack of tactile feedback, even so much as holding an object in the hand, is where the trouble lies.
Remember Gamecrush? That thing where you could pay money to play games with hot chicks?
It still exists, and one of the former girls on the site wrote an article describing her experience. It's interesting stuff: apparently most of the girls don't get paid much at all, and many of the guys are perverts who don't mind whipping out their Bulletstorms, so to speak.

Xenogears and I had an argument about this last year actually. He thought they'd started developing it in parallel with DQIX, it was well into development and would come out in 2011. I thought they announced it way too early, only really started development in late 2009, after DQIX came out and that Square Enix will want to prep the Wii audience with a couple of ports, resulting in DQX's 2013 release. Pretty sure I'm going to turn out correct.
I'd assume we'd see it next year instead of 2013.
What DQ ports are hitting Wii?
They haven't announced any but they've hinted they will. It'll happen, releasing ports to ready the audience for the proper installment has been an obvious tactic of theirs since the PS1 and seeing as the series is still successful, I don't think there's any chance they'd stop now. So yeah, the fact that we haven't even heard of any ports so far makes me think 2013.
On the bright side, Robot Entertainment (many of the Age of Empires guys) has brought back Tecmo's Deception. I mean, different name and all, but definitely Deception. With a player character who can fight!
You had me at 'Tecmo's Deception'. Trailer didn't hurt, of course.
And the music in the trailer wasn't bad, but I mean, what a missed opportunity it was. They coulda gone with this! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vVcYsT9WPcs
The only reason I can think of that the Go hasn't been firesaled yet is that Sony is cutting retailers into a bigger slice of the profits in order to keep them happy (since Go buyers won't return to buy games). Then again, if it's selling so horribly and Sony can't price-drop it significantly, then why not just discontinue it?

A VII remake is most likely but an VIII port with reduced load times would be divine.

What I really want to know is why you would expect Sony to make the smart, logical move in a timely and money-saving manner. While one could certainly apply stubborn and tenacious to their approach to console manufacturing, I really don't think smart has applied for a long, long time.
There's no real reason to discontinue the PSP Go in the US as long as the PSP overall is still going. It's not like it takes much floor space to include a couple of PSP Go boxes and a few accessories for it. And from what I understand, a decent minority percentage of PSP console sales in the US these days are Gos (probably not after the price drop of the core though).
Outside of the US, though? Yeah, not much point in continuing to sell it. It's a shame - the system is a really nice piece of hardware, but Sony's pricing for it (and the PSP in general) was and is just stupid. The system really should have been priced less than the original PSP to begin with - get them hooked for cheap and then make your money via software sales.
I probably live in one of the only house in the world with two PSP Gos in it. The second one was for my daughter as a Christmas present and she loves it (mostly plays PS1 RPGs on it). We picked it up for $150 + the 3 free games so it wasn't too expensive. Plus Sony allows you to put your games on up to 5 systems simultaneously so she gets all of my games for free (and vice versa).

I love reading about this industry.
Indie developer shows some talent and gets their games published.
Big time publisher buys the developer because of their talent; w00t money!
Big time publisher tells developer what they can and can't do.
Eventually developer makes a game that doesn't sale millions; staff is laid off and developer is closed.
Same people come together to create a new developer.
Rinse; repeat; w00t money!
