spidercide sounds like a branded hard liquor drink sold by Peter Parker

the kind of thing that has reps but you only really drink ten drinks in or on a dare or when you're pretending to be hard to get by getting drunk

I've never thought of it like that

But it really does sound like that doesn't it

It's a special formulation that he developed himself.

After an hour or two, the effects wear off.

If Peter sold the recipe, he'd make millions.

So, my shop had a stack of free Avenging Spider-Man previews, and I grabbed one.

That comic looks really fun. In a week of pretty mediocre comics (and Legion of Monsters), that 11-page preview was probably the best thing I read.

I may actually have to buy a Spider-Man book, for the first time since OMD.

You could have been buying ASM when Zeb Wells was writing it!

and by ASM I mean Amazing

wow this is going to complicate things

  • Macro9Macro9 Registered User regular
His issues were some of the best during OMD even.

    Ugh.

    Ugh.

I tried reading the first BND TPB, and found I got way too fanboyish over Peter Parker being an unmarried dude. It's just one of those things that I can't help but be a raging nerd over. So rather than subject myself to that, I just chose not to read any of it.

But, I could get on board with what's basically Marvel Team-Up, featuring the Avengers. As long as it doesn't dwell on Peter's personal life, too much.

I feel exactly the same. About AvSM anyway. Is this Joe Mad's first comic since Battlechasers?

I mentioned it in the motw, but man the whole mary jane scene lit up my fanboy hopes.
MJ 's little moment jumping to the rescue, showing her she can't just ignore cries for help, and understands now why Spidey never could either. ( and while next bit is reaching, could this be a seed of reconciliation that even Joe Q can't stomp? I'd love that metaphor as well, a love so powerful not even an Editor in Chief can stop it!)

I'm surprised that Marvel gave an 11 page preview of Avenging Spidey, as I kind of doubt it's going to be an extra pages issue.

Huh, I noticed he was Chief Creative Officer or some such on a "From the Marvel Vault" issue I picked up a few weeks back, but didn't put two and two together. That would explain why there was a few panels of Gambit smoking in it.

Well, if you don't want to read his first major Spider-man story in the second volume of Brand New Day, I still suggest Spider-man 577 and ASM Extra #2, since they feature quick stories where he teams up with Punisher and Wolverine, respectively.

The new costume isn't as cool as the origional one. I want a sleevless blue hoody, and I don't care how awful it is!

    Scarlet Spider is tempting.

Here's the major Spider-Man panel news in a nutshell

    - Scarlet Spider ongoing in January, Yost and Stegman, not as lighthearted as Spider-Man and not as dark as Venom, travels across the Marvel Universe
    - "Spidey Meets the Devil" crossover between ASM #677 and Daredevil #8, both parts written by Mark Waid
    - "Ends of the Earth" in 2012 by Dan Slott and Stefano Casseli, the big Sinister Six story Slott's been building up to

Meets the devil 'ey? Now that could be interesting.

In fact, all of those do. Good times.

i like the new Scarlet Spider costume and will read the book when its first trade comes out.

  • GankGank Registered User regular
Ugh, just occurred to me... you don't think Waid would actually put Mephisto in that Spidey/Daredevil cross over?

    I doubt it
In January, a crossover between "Amazing Spider-Man" and "Daredevil" hits in issues #677 and #8 respectively. The story by Mark Waid, Emma Rios and Kano will feature the Black Cat's return to Spidey's world. "These are two of the best characters to bounce off each other in the Marvel Universe, so this should be fun," Wacker said while Slott promised the story would have repercussions for both series.

Just playing on Daredevil's name it seems.

I thought so, just paranoid is all. I was really hoping for light hearted, bouncy fun what with how fantastic Daredevil has been. And it looks like I'm getting it.

If Scarlett Spider takes place in Houston, I might check it out. He could wear battle red during a Texans game for a disguise (which causes Matt Schaub to make us lose the game!)

This was why Force Works was such a great series, they went to Houston in issue #3.

    Scarlet Spider is tempting.

Plus, it's harder to tell that this is a distinct character when Spider-Man has like four or five outfits with the same basic design. This costume could just as easily be something else that he makes in the lab.

Honestly, I felt the latest SI chapter felt a little crowded- so much is going on.
We lose Tarantula and Jackal(?) and apparently Spider-King is back to Captain America - I wondered why they even bothered to set up Spider-King as this major threat, and then resolve him outside the main storyline.

It was a cool idea - ended a little strangely. You'd think Spider-Man would've fought him at least once.

Just feels like they're hurrying along towards the resolution now. Might've benefited from an extra issue so the story could take its time.

The Scientists #6 reveal and the fight with Tarantula was pretty great. Still my favorite thing I'm reading right now.

So all the hype for Spider-island makes me wan't to jump into Spider-man. I will be getting the trade for Spider-island when it comes out. Do I need need to get anything from before? Also have the post-Spider-island started yet?

There's still one more issue, and then the epilogue issue yet to come out.

I'm not sure how well Spider-island reads on it's own, other posters may have a better judge of that, but I would suggest starting at Big Time.
