Weight Clamps?

We inherited a free bench from a friend who went into the military, he's currently in basic training so communication isn't something we can just do with him.

It's a Weider 250 Bench and the only thing missing is the clamps to keep the weights on. We went to Dicks and they only had 1'' and 2'' clamps. The one inch ones seemed perfect but they're just slightly to small. No matter how hard we try they won't fit.
We went to two or three other places but most didn't have weight clamps period.

Google isn't helping, I'm not sure I have the right term for whatever these bastards are called.

Will you have a spotter? You don't always need the clamps. In fact, they can be downright dangerous if you do not have a spotter because if you overload and can't get it up the last time, you're going to have a hell of a time getting out from under it.

Though, you need to be very careful when you slide the weight off one side and then the other side tries to plummet straight down.

You should have a spotter if you are an inexperienced weightlifter. Certainly to make sure you are practicing correct form for awhile.

    Ah collars, thank you.
Still only finding 1'' and 2'' ones. Though there are some ones that adjust but are damned expensive. :?

We will be spotting each other, but they slide right off just about every time. We really need these things.

Did you try 1" Spring Collars?

    Few things

    1) That bench is rated to 110lbs weight on the bar at once, like 50lbs on the leg bar
    2) I wouldn't trust it with 100lbs
    3) If you plan on using it to any extent then invest in a real bench and bar please.

Just saying for your own safety, a weilder is fine for a teen or someone whos just starting lifing. If you plan on actually using it to any lengths please please PLEASE invest in a decent bench and more importantly a bar that isn't held together by a couple of rollpins that have a tendency to work their way back out.

The bar clamps they use are a cheapo piece that uses a setscrew to hold the weight into place, not all that great and can easily fail even under small amounts of weight. I can get you photos of them if you want though I couldn't locate anything online.

Its a mass produced POS that works great for kids and people who are just starting out. You'll quickly outgrow that bench if you use it to any lengths and theres some serious issues with it when used near the upper threshold of its supported weight.

    EDIT:

You can try contacting them through their website, but do note two things

    1) "AS SEEN ON TV"
    2) No benches give the specs of how much weight is supported, max weight on the bars, and any other vital information anyone who actually cares about their safety rather then a few bucks would want to know.

Google image search shows these looking like what we went with the first time. Which, as hard as they were pressed, just wouldn't fit.

Yea, it doesn't have a lot of weight, we mostly do more cardio stuff. It was free and we figured it would be nice to have.
A photo would be great though!

If the weights are sliding off while you are benching normally, something is very, very wrong. Even up and down, dude. Explosive on the up, but still even.

You'll outgrow lifting 100 lbs in no time. I weighed 135 and went from benching barely anything to over my body weight after ~a month in high school.

Don't know what to tell you man, it is a cheapo set. The weights don't really snuggly fit in the first place.

I'm perfectly fine with outgrowing the set. Like I mentioned we mostly do cardio and it was free.
So maybe we'll start using this puppy on rainy days and it'll get us into going to our school gym, who knows.

But yea, only lead on getting ones that fit so far is contacting Weider.
