So this is all the stuff that is currently on the server and that is relevant to you all.
1) Minecart mania: We have minecart mania core, sign control, chest commands, and stations

Note that instead of gold blocks being the primary boosters it is currently set to bookcases
2) Otherblock: This lets us modify what blocks drop what when certain tools are used.
If need be I can change these:
Use a gold shovel on sand and get 2 clay balls
Use a gold sword on leaves to get leaf blocks
Use any axe on bookcases to receive back a book instead of the boodcase
Use a gold hoe to break tilled dirt and have a 50% chance to receive mushrooms
Use an iron hoe on flowers for a 50% chance of 2 flowers dropping
3) Growbie: This plugin that lets you use bonemeal to spread flowers and stuff. Didnt take a good look at it, just threw it in.

4) General commands: These are just some handy commands that everyone has access to, they are:
/who: This shows who is online, gives a list of players online and the total number.
/getpos: Shows your x,y,z coordinates and the direction your facing.
/compass: shows just the direction your facing
/time: Shows the current time of minecraft day
/rules: Gives a brief version of the rules as a refresher.
/motd: When you join the server a message appears welcoming you and saying something. if you wish to see it again just use this command.
This is everything I can think of. I wont be on a whole lot the next 3 days as I will be at PAX East. When I come back I will be working out the donations, and will be working on getting a PVP world up and running for you all, as well as a functioning nether.

Also my hope is that we can get enough people who wish to donate that all we have to ask for is like $5 from you all who want to/are able to donate and that it will cover the costs of the dedicated server. Nothing is final yet and we are not sure how much the final cost per month will be.

I have a 7 hour plane ride coming up, though, so that should be plenty of time to build... something. A castle? The first floor of a castle?
I think I may have been a bit preemptive in announcing a new Canal Town though. Mining out the basic design took longer than I expected, and I still have like three times that area to mine out. And then I'll have to decide if I want the lagoon to be one or two tiles deep. The two-tile option would hopefully prevent slimes, but again it'll take ages to flood that whole area.
I've suddenly become very impatient about a project.

I'm a little worried that when the Nether gets working again people are going to make return portals that pop into town and fuck up people's houses. There should be a contingency plan for that.
information is really easy to acquire just by posting here or asking in-game, so I don't see how you can fuck that up
maybe the market for certain things should be made prohibitively expensive to enter... mob farms seem a little broken to me (that doesn't stop me from building them)
From my understanding Minecraft only runs on 1 core. So they probably have as many instances of minecraft as they have cores on each rig.

It doesn't appear they use dedicated server in the sense that you get your own box to run shit on. They specifically say that if you click the dedicated core box that they make sure your core does not run any other gaming services.
I'm pretty sure when they refer to dedicated server they mean dedicated server software.

A dedicated box that runs only your shit is the only thing 'dedicated server' means. If it is only a dedicated virtual server then they better well be up front about it because there's a huge difference there.
Edit: Oh, apparently the Linode crashed (I gots an email about it). Interesting.

I can't believe how many things are on the server, both people and projects.
It's also chock-full of lava and creepers.
I saw one of them just scurrying down the hall towards me and the sound it made while I shot it with arrows from a distance masked the sound of the creeper directly behind me counting down to detonation until it was too late.
I ran my ass back towards my cobblestone mining camp but a missing block in the walkway back that I didn't notice ended up with me in a magma bath.
Luckily I only lost a big stack of iron, a diamond pick, diamond sword and a bunch of iron tools.
It sounds kinda bad but I had already made up more than I lost by that point and had the good sense to bank it in a chest in my mining camp before taking a lava nap.

This usually results in finding resources and you don't have to dig down to the diamond level.
Just seal up your holes in the canal or put a door on them, be courteous.
