Worlds in Time

Recently announced an MMO based on the world's longest running sci-fi series "Doctor Who" is in development titled "Doctor Who: Worlds in Time".

Official Press Release
More News about it
Wikipedia article

Due to the nature of the show, an MMO would be unbelieveable but I'm sure they know how it will work.
The game is set for late 2011 and will be free-to-play. Three Rings Design will be in charge of developing and so far from what I've read, you wont be playing as the Doctor but as a companion / traveller I guess.

I had a chance to contact Three Rings Designs CEO, Daniel James on whether they've played the last few Doctor Who games to know what to include, whether they're also fans of the series and not just watched the new series but also the classic series and have read the books, listened to the audio dramas, comics and spin-offs and also whether they'd be later asking for any feedback and suggestions from fans. He replied back saying:
"Thanks for this. I can't reveal much about the game at all, yet, but of course we have played the other Doctor Who games, and many of us grew up watching Doctor Who 'classic' in the UK. Some of us read the books, etc, too. So I hope the rights are in good hands, in the end the proof is in the pudding."

So discuss, what you think it will be like, what you would like to have added and anything else related to the upcoming MMO.

A look at all the previous Doctor Who video games:
*Doctor Who: The First Adventure - 1983
*Doctor Who and the Warlord - 1985
*Doctor Who and the Mines of Terror - 1985
*Dalek Attack - 1992
*Doctor Who: Destiny of the Doctors - 1997
*Top Trumps: Doctor Who - 2008
*Doctor Who: The Adventure Games - 2010 (second series in development)
*Doctor Who: Return to Earth - 2010
*Doctor Who: Evacuation Earth - 2010
*Doctor Who: The Mazes of Time - 2010

Just about every Doctor Who game I've ever seen has either been mediocre (the adventure games) to downright terrible (the Wii and DS games). Hopefully they'll reverse this trend.

Well when people generally hear that it's free, it might not turn out that great. But hopefully it does. Plus all previous Doctor Who games were by UK developers, Three Rings is in the US so might be a nice change.

Well, if there's any combat, they'll be doing it wrong.

Well hopefully it's not all puzzles, some maybe will just need to perform minor tasks or investigations.
But hopefully none of those puzzles involve gems or crystals, I had enough of that in "Return to Earth" and "Evacuation Earth".

I wonder if it's only free if you're in the UK. Remember how the adventure game was free to UK residents (because this stuff is tax-funded).

This is all by whatever the international branch of the BBC is, isn't it?

I really must go beyond half knowing which channel shows Who and which one shows Confidential.

Here's a list of all the official Doctor Who video games that have been released in the past to present.
*Doctor Who: The First Adventure - 1983
*Doctor Who and the Warlord - 1985
*Doctor Who and the Mines of Terror - 1985
    *Dalek Attack - 1992
*Doctor Who: Destiny of the Doctors - 1997
*Top Trumps: Doctor Who - 2008
*Doctor Who: The Adventure Games - 2010 (second series in development)
*Doctor Who: Return to Earth - 2010
*Doctor Who: Evacuation Earth - 2010
*Doctor Who: The Mazes of Time - 2010

The Adventure Games and Mazes of Time have shown to be alright. Destiny of the Doctors was alright but lacked any in-game tutorial, the same with Mines of Terror.

    This has potential.

Create an army of Bill & Ted characters and have them running around screaming about some wanker stealing their phone booth.

    Collect Dalek Tubes [2/10]

Though it sounds like they aren't going that route. At least if they did, they'd have a lot of monster ideas to work with!

Well hopefully they use a lot of monsters and aliens from both the show and the expanded universe and not just a whole heap of new ones.

This will be the worst thing ever. A Doctor Who MMO can only mean you don't play as the doctor and thus accomplish nothing ever.

Well, it could also mean that every single person is the Doctor.

Just, a hundred thousand Doctor Whos wandering around.

I believe it's been said that you wont be playing as the Doctor but as a traveller of course with the Doctor and the TARDIS.

    Yes. This. This must happen.

When and if this comes out, this must be the PA guild theme.

I hope it will include being able to freely explore a city, place etc. like you would in WoW when in Stormwind.
Go to a shop, a bank and chatting with others. Wouldn't mind also a guild. Some guild names could use:
    *The Time Lords
    *The Lords of Time
    *The 456
    *Theta Sigma
*The Angels Have Taken the Blue Box
    *LINDA
    *Torchwood 8
    *The Family of Blood
