I am looking at getting a HDTV or monitor and hooking my Macbook Pro up to it (I've been feeling a change to dual screen for a while). I would like it to have some HDMI ports, good viewing angle and a serial port so I can hook up into the Campus cable. The higher the resolution the better!
Budget: <$500 if possible. But I'll keep this open for the sake of exploring possibilities.
I have been researching on my own, but have come up with only confusion. I was wondering what the word on the street was, and what your personal experiences were like.
If you want the best viewing angles you're going to want an IPS panel, the Dell U2410 springs to mind for your budget. Though I'm not sure what you're going to do about a serial(?) port.
I'll be picking up a U2711 myself when I do my build later on in the year.
Note, these monitors are in the pro graphic design market (perhaps on the low end), if this is predominantly for gaming and watching media your money is going to go a lot further (diagonal inch wise) picking up a TN-based 1080P monitor.
