Q: I got the SE, where are my DLC characters?
A: If you read the damn box, you'd know that even though you bought the SE, you still have to wait until March 15th to download them. You just get them for free. There's a code on the back of the comic you got with your SE. If you use the PS3, your PSN code is on there. If you have the 360 version, you need to redeem the code at
this website, you'll get your XBLM code in an email.
Q: What if I didn't get the special edition? How much are the DLC characters and when can I purchase them.
A: They are five dollars EACH. Special edition not looking so dumb now, HUH? You get them on March 15 like everyone else. You can purchase them separately.
Q: I can't get ranked matches, what the fuck?
A: The best way is to use arcade fight request mode, which you can do in arcade or training mode. The option is after you select your characters.
Q: What should I read with my free month of Marvel Digital Comics?
A: I like anything with the Ultimate imprint (Ultimate Spider-Man, Ultimate Fantastic Four, etc) and the Runaways, but you can also check
this link for some other ideas.
Q: What happens if I use super assist Hsien-Ko spam?
A: I fucking hate you.
Q: Oh shit Sentinel is in this game? He's my favorite Marvel character. Should I choose him to be the third character on my team and just use him to fucking bail me out of trouble with level 3 X-Factor?
A: See above question. Also, Sentinel is nobody's favorite. See above question again.
Q: Sometimes you guys talk about combos and it's in some sort of crazy ass moon speak. What the hell is this?
A: It's called numpad notation. Usually people use ABCS A1 and A2 to represent light, medium, heavy, special, assist 1 and assist 2, but you should also be aware of LMHE for the same. The numbers correspond to your numpad, so 6 is towards, 4 is back, 2 is down, etc. All things assume you're on the player one side. So, something like 2A 2B 5C would mean crouching A and B, then a standing C. j in front of it is used to denote jumping, so jC would mean jumping C, or j2C could mean jumping down C (if the character has a move like that). Lastly, motions can be denoted using this method. 236 means a quarter circle forward, 623 would be shoryuken motion, and 63214 would be half circle backwards. Basically, just think of the numpad as a representation as to where your stick/dpad/analog stick should be and everything should make sense.

Okay, revised ranbat rules for added clarification.
F
irst off, let's start with some definitions:
- RanBat - RANking BATtle. It's what you're reading about. Players compete in tournaments to earn points and get ranked based on how many points they have earned.
- Game - A grouping of rounds, usually best of three or five rounds. After a game ends (online at least) both players are returned to the lobby ready screen and character select.
- Match - A collection of games against one specific human opponent during a single round or period of a ranbat.
Next: generic ranbat rules.
- 99 second, best of five games.
- All characters allowed.
- Only the loser may switch characters, the winner may not switch characters. Either player may modify team order or assists.
Nextly, scheduling and signups!
- All ranbats @9pm eastern!
- Xbox 360 ranbats on Wednesday
- PM ChaosHat on 360
- Log onto IRC at the start time!
Anyways, onto the actual RanBatting.
There are two phases to a ranbat night, the pools period, and the playoffs period. The exact structure of these is up to the organizer, but here are some formats you can expect. First, the pools period. There are two ways the pools period is run generally, depending on turnout. On especially low turnout nights, it is not unprecedented to skip pools. The pools period is meant to select the players who will go to the playoffs period, usually a top 4 (but potentially more in the event of large turnout). Regardless of whichever method is chosen, it is vitally important that you record your match wins and losses, as well as the games wins and losses, as the games wins/losses can be used to break a tie in the event two people have identical match records.
The Pools Period!
When the time comes, the RanBat organizer will randomize the list of entrants and post this random list. You will find your name on this list and play the three people above you and three people below you on the list. You will (as of season three) earn two points per match win at this phase. After this, you'll report your record (usually in IRC) to the organizer who will compile the data and determine who moves on to...
The Playoffs Period!
Playoffs will now be a single elimination bracket of the top four players, mostly to save on time. Just for making it to the top 4, you will earn one point. You will also earn two more points for each match you win while in the playoffs.
At the end of the season, the top players will be put into a big asynchronous RanBat finals bracket to determine the overall season winner!
The PA Fighting Game Community!
If you're on the 360, you can add the metafriend: A PA MvC3
We also made a super cool IRC room! #PAFighting at irc.slashnet.org:6667
You can use this web client if you're SUPER UNCOOL. So people know, we are naming ourselves LFG_YourName in irc if you're looking for a lobby, and LFM_YourName if you're looking for more people! Simply use /nick to change your name in chat. You should use a non web client because sometimes the web client breaks while the server is still up for some unknown reason. If you need help configuring IRC, Blackbeard made this super cool guide:
How to get mIRC working
Step 1: Go to
http://www.mirc.com/ and click Download mIRC and install it. Just do all the basic stuff and let it do its thing. It's pretty fast.
Step 2: Go file > select server. Under connect, click on servers. Then click the Add button that appears on the right. Under description, put whatever you want. Under IRC server, put irc.slashnet.org, ports put 6667, and for group put #PAFighting. Password leave blank. Hit ok when done.
Step 3: Click connect again on the left menu, and fill out the nickname box and other info (I had to also do full name and email before it stopped giving me shit. I also unchecked invisible mode in case it did what it sounded like). Click the connect button under those info boxes, and wait a sec. A box should pop up asking what channel to join. Enter #PAFighting and click join. That should do it. If you get an error at this step, you may have to reopen the server select menu, click on firewall, and add port 6667. I had to, but your mileage may vary.

So I heard this game has Sentinel in it?
Anyways, anyone up for some ps3 player matches in the next few hours? I'll be home around 5:30 PST.
Slice like a god damn hammer. LoL: Rafflesia / BNet: Talonflame#11979
I hear he sucks though. It's a shame because giant robots are pretty sweet.
You should buy one just for RanBats then. You'd be the SECOND person to purchase an Xbox, stick, and second copy of a game for that.
I'll take my check now Microsoft, Capcom, and MadCatz.
Not sure. The combo listed did not mention this really. Just double checked to make sure (though incidently, I fucked up some of the combo listing, but I was going from memory).
Of course, it could just be a mistake in the combo listing or I could be misunderstanding.
But man I didn't give him those wins easily. It came down to X-factor Trish or Thor half of the time. I think I could have evened up the W/L ratio if I didn't constantly whiff with Thor's Mighty Tornado. I've really got to get used to that. Also I have this terrible habit of using the diagonal Proton Cannon when I want the horizontal one. Again, just something to get used to.
Feeling pretty confident in the pair of Iron Man and Dante right about now. Thor is...going to take some time.
You could, of course, totally join the PS3 ranbats, full of cooler dudes.
Waaaaay cooler dudes.

Oh daaaaaaaaamn.
Also I play modok, but I can see why he's not popular.
Mostly because he's really fucking weird.

Do note that you can change it up a little and still do fine (using air H instead of S before the shield charge, not using a single aerial arrow at the end before the hyper, or just cutting out the last spider swing segment entirely and doing a more basic aerial combo after the shield charge to S launcher).
Ah, nice. Thank you very much!
On that note, I work at 4AM but maybe tomorrow Ill nap early, so I can get up at like 7PM and RanBat. Anyone else really, really bipolar about this game like me? 20 minutes ago I wanted to sell it after a terrible night. Now I think I HAVE to have the foundations to do something good (40 hours in the game must mean I know SOMETHING useful), I just need some help putting it all together...
Just add me on Xbox Live, dawg. I suffer from the same bipolar bounce between loving and hating this game. I also play as THOR. So, you know, free wins and shit.
It helps that analyse cube is actually a really good move.

STILL THE BEST 1973-FOREVER
It is a real good move, but just the character isn't to my taste. Same with Dormammu's "Power of the-" combos. It's not in my playstyle to find room for that stuff. Kudos for if you can do it though.
Analyse traps are funny as hell.
That's because the Brady guide is in love with Wesker, Dante, and Sentinel's assists. It still manages to mention a few others (Arthur's Dagger Toss gets a fair amount of love too), but it's still my only complaint with the thing - the assist section for each character is generally just a tiny blurb, so it tends to go on and on about the same few assists. Though I guess it doesn't help some assists seemingly get all the love and others none at all (like why Captain America's don't tend to retain any of the special qualities they have when he's point character).
Though to be fair her assist is retardedly good.
Plus she's actually pretty good on point.
I can't wait for the day where everyone uses tron instead of sentinel. It'll be too crazy for me to handle.
Quick example is Zero. I don't need to worry about using his OTG dive kick at all with Hulk and Wesker on my squad, so I can do much easier combos for basically the same damage. Add DHC synergy to the squad and it's quite easy to level people.
It's so easy that my defense still sucks (still working on that). Otherwise, I feel okay these days.
In fact, one of these days I am going to try a Haggar / Tronn / Wesker team (or someone else instead of Haggar, maybe Zero / Wolverine / Dante) just to see how that works.
I bet it'd do decently.

I don't supposed we'll see any of them again. Pity, as Amingo would be hilarious paired with M.O.D.O.K. and Shuma-Gorath. And I actually liked playing as Ruby Heart (who if I remember right was the default main character for the game because what little plot there was all revolved around her).
I guess they counted as Capcom characters for the purposes of keeping the sides equal?
My understanding is that SonSon was a character from a Capcom game, and Ruby Heart and Amingo were characters that were originally slated to appear in a Darkstalkers game but it never got made.
So technically Ruby and Amingo are original to MvC2.

The person I was thinking of wasn't you, so let me revise it.
He'd be the THIRD person to purchase an Xbox, stick, and a second copy of the game for RanBats.
Check please.
...what? around 27:45 is a perfect example of how to handle phoenix when its 3 characters to 1 and she still has x-factor. The phoenix player lost.

I like to play around with him in training sometimes, but I'm nowhere near ready to actually use him in actual matches though. Hopefully someday!

Only 830-850 before the X-factor.
Imo, every team (at this point) should be able to do 750-850 in a combo involving two hypers to be considered legit.
Looks hysterical, though .
