So I just brought this game and I have no idea what I'm doing. I'm just pressing buttons, watching fun flashy stuff, and enjoying the music.

Totally a legitimate way to enjoy it. The game is fun at all levels provided you have people of similar skill levels to play with. Even button mashing can lead to some very cool things with this system. If you are interested in putting time into it, the people here have been really helpful thus far. Don't get discouraged by it's learning curve, fighting games require practice.
If XF was to be tweaked, I'd prefer:

    - level 2 & 3 to have the same duration as level 1, with health regen increased to compensate
    - level 3 to have level 2's current speed+damage boost, level 2 to have level 1's current boost, and level 1 to have no boost at all but retain other properties (cancel, regen, no chip, damage scaling reduction)

This is what I was trying to get at. Balancing X-Factor would turn down the "WTF?" Factor. Level one would be more defensive in nature or be used for combo purposes, Level 2 would be the same but a reward for holding on to it longer, and level 3 would be considerably less ridiculous. And the time limit on all the levels would lead to there being a reason to not just blow it on runaway, ideally causing one to be more aggressive. Then again I may just be dreaming.

So I'm changing my team again because it sucks when the other person knows how to fight Hulk. He only has one low and otherwise can be completely zoned out.

    I'm thinking X-23/Taskmaster/Akuma now.

I know exactly what your are talking about by using XFC to extend combos, make a whiffed hyper safe, or something. That isn't my objection. What I don't like is the use of it with the whole "LOL GOD TIER NOW. US ALL METER," and how that actually works in some situations. I think that if the damage multiplier were reduced or the time were reduced it would force people to use it more intelligently. Maybe I was inadequate in expressing my surprise that so many people seem to want to leave it as is, and would rather take chunks of health from characters. I don't see people using it for wacky shenanigans so much as hyper after hyper. It certainly has been used for some interesting things and will without a doubt be used for crazy things in the remainder of the life of this game. However, as it stands now, there isn't much incentive for a person to use it proactively. They can just turtle and wait to use a hyper when you have 30 seconds to be chip free, faster, and have a 2x damage multiplier.

I'm sorry I keep at this, but I just don't want people to misunderstand where I'm coming from.

I've been meaning to change out my team for awhile, I had been using Morrigan, X-23, and Iron Man for no real reason. I switched to Wolverine, X-23, and Iron Man, but I always seem to crumble when under corner pressure with Iron Man. I've been searching for a third, I was thinking somebody with a good range game to cover the other two, who isn't Iron Man. Any suggestions? Sentinel was working well, but...he's so overpowered. It almost feels unethical given my disdain towards X-Factor frying-pan-ery.

I'm going to spoiler this post because it's a become a huge wall of text on my end.

    On x-factor:
It's nothing to apologize about, discussion is discussion and due to the nature of the internet it can take a bit of back and forth to make ourselves clear to one another. That said how effective throwing on xfactor and throwing out hypers is will vary wildly on not only who the user is but who their target is. Hyper Sentinel Force can be super jumped on reaction, but even say Akuma's beam isn't without risk - if they're just sitting on the other side of the screen firing repeatedly you can pretty easily take advantage of the period of recovery after one and before the start up of another. Whether that means using a full screen hyper yourself (I do this with Dorm's Chaotic Flame all the time) to merely super jumping after one finishes (say, the 2nd, just so you know they are in fact blowing through them all) before he activates the next. Or invoke the use of flight and/or a teleport. While Ryu can aim his, Akuma and everyone else have forced angles to work with.

Basically what it amounts to is if they're down to their last guy, they've got no assists to surprise you with and obviously can't DHC on you unexpectedly when tossing out hypers. So their avenue of attack (though very dangerous because of the sheer damage) is often quite predictable. But even if you don't think any of the above is an option for you at the time, taking the chip from a beam or two and then using x-factor yourself on the rest will certainly minimize the damage (by healing up your red from the chip and negating the rest if they insist on blowing through them). Though even still, worse case scenario is you have no x-factor, no hyper meter, and absolutely no other options (perhaps due to character choice and the enemy isn't actually full screen away firing off hypers). If you just block and advancing guard the hits, it should still take several hypers to kill off even an injured character in this way. The difference in taking a full Akuma beam to the face vs the chip they do up against advanced guard is seriously that stark.

Hopefully I understood what you're getting at this time, but if not just say as much. I don't mean to sound snarky or championing the cause of lvl 3 xfactor, just offering advice.

    As for your team:
Wolverine is always solid because he combos so easily and can go into his lvl 3 all on his lonesome. Most people consider his basic combo to be:
LMLHS, air MMH, drill claw, dive kick, ground HS, air MMH -> air fatal claw
But I highly recommend changing up the end of it. Rather than do another aerial series after the dive kick grounds the opponent again, just do H into a mashed H Berserker Barrage (qcf+H). If you mash it out the last hit will pop the opponent up in the air enough to end it with any hyper, including Weapon X (usually the hyper Berserker Barrage DHCs better than Fatal Claw when not using the lvl 3, but it just depends on your team).

If you want to use X-23, as I've been told by somewhere here (forget who, sorry!) you can maximize her damage output via assist use and avoiding her basic M attacks (since they multihit it scales her damage rapidly). Something as simple as...
    LH d+H S, air H qcf+L, Deadpool Katanarama assist, HS, air H qcf+L, qcf+M (charged) -> Rage Trigger
...will end up breaking 600k damage. You can also do a variation of this by calling other assists, like Akuma's Tatsu, and doing a qcf+M (charged) on the ground after the first air attacks. It'll pop them up to let the assist hold them long enough to connect the rest of the combo. Further, if you want to squeeze out every bit of damage possible you can get a d+H in between the air H and qcf+L, though it takes more execution on your part at that point.

As for Iron Man, if you wanted to stick with him don't be forgetful of his options. He can do both zone with beams and repulsor blast, and also pressure by diagonally air dashing at opponents with d+H. Or just normal dashing with M attacks, so long as it's enough distance that his dash becomes attack cancel-able again (he can't dash and immediately cancel into attacks the way, say, Wolverine can). If they've got you in the corner, pushblock away and super jump + fly to get yourself out. Or simply Proton Cannon in their face - the motion Iron Man makes to summon the cannon hits and is actually one of the fastest close range attacks in the game. If they block it and you have another character left, DHC into something else either safe on its own (Wolverine's Berserker Charge buff could work here) or whatever else when you think they're going to punish you. Also never forget that Iron Man with 3 hyper gauges is a different beast than one without it, since his lvl 3 Iron Avenger covers most (but not all) of the screen in a flash and is completely invincible while doing so. It's the perfect way to counter x-factor hyper spam and kill off a chunk of their timer via its animation.

I was level or better than all but probably 2 people. Got some good mileage out of Spencer, despite just having started him yesterday. Ended a match just like conbofiend vs marn. Way down with Spencer + 5 meters. Flinch, BIONIC ARM, dead. new guy, Flinch, BIONIC ARM, X-Factor, BIONIC ARM. Then just like the end of that round 3, I jumped and shot off to the side and came in with the overhead to land the combo that finishes the round.

    AHahahahaha, yes YES YESSSSSSSSS

So I'm getting bodied. Like, utterly. I started out hulk vs wesker/task/doom

The dude's not biting on anything unsafe so I can't hulk smash, so I take around 75% from one combo and switch out. And I manage to fuck it up with trish, and since she's trish she dies in one combo.

I can't get anything going with dorm, just doing some chip damage, but he calls in doom for his photon cannon assist and I chaotic flame, hitting only doom, so I x-factor, but I forgot it doesn't lift assists for some DUMB AS HELL REASON.

he runs away with wesker till x-factor runs out. Then I fuck up a tele and down goes dorm.

But I'm going for the ten wins in a row achievement, and this is my tenth match.

So I did what must be done. I entered the hulk smash zone. And then read the opponents mind for the next 45 seconds. Oh you think I'm about to attack? Nah bro I know you're about to counter hyper with wesker. Then some throwing. Oh you think I'ma throw again on your wake up? Nah bro I know you're gunna attack HULK SMASH PUNY HUMAN. Then tasky comes in. I've got him in the corner. Jumping, hulk smashing more throws! Corner combos ending in gamma wave/gamma crush. I'm down to around 1/8th health. I finish off tasky with around 10 seconds to go. In comes doom. I hit him coming in with a jH into jS which leads into a corner combo ending with gamma wave/crush. before I can get back in he photon arrays, or whatever that spread beam hyper is. I take chip damage. The amgic pixel saves me. 3 seconds left. I jump in I don't know what he threw out to try and chip me, but I was having none of it. jH, JS, M, S. That's it. I pulled off a reverse OCV with a half health hulk against wesker/task/doom.

Me and the hulk were one. AND HULK IS STRONGEST THERE IS!

Regarding Wesker's level 3 - he doesn't whip the rocket out of his back pocket. It's fired from offscreen at him and he redirects it to you. It's an allusion to a scene in RE5.

Edit: Nevermind, I guess he does pull it out of his back pocket, haha.
