I would totally love to see more female players in SC2 - especially high-profile pro players. It is a bit of a sausage fest right now and I don't see any reason it needs to stay that way.
Of course, that's great philosophy - but, as it is, get her Vari! Show her how this game is played!
I know some girls, I know some girls that play games, I know no girls that play RTS or PC games that aren't the Sims/MMO.
Its a bit of a stretch, SC2 is like the anti girl game. Not to be sexist but most girls seem to prefer more social games, even Halo has an edge over SC2. Really SC2 is one of the least social games, you are in a dark map, against a single person who wants to kill you.
Going to start laddering tonight or tomorrow as protoss, haven't really played since beta and that was Terran. Anyways any tips or anything before I start? I am going to do some custom games and get a 4 gate down.
Basically if I play against zerg get a zealot then sentries, terran zealot than stalkers, protoss zealots and stalkers? Just for the first few units that is, I think zealots do well against stalkers don't they?
It's hard to mess up a 4 gate once you've got the timing (for your version) down. Mine tend to be stalker heavy with a few zealots and very few sentries - reinforcing with what seems appropriate once I start hammering their base. 6pool, 2rax, cannon rush, and proxy 2 gate will all beat you to the punch - so consider scouting for those. Lastly, good players can hold off a 4 gate push these days - so learn when to stop your attack and work in a time to cut (gateway) units and expand.

waiting between games is like torture. so bored.
and I have the d&d dinner tonight... I may end up bailing. sorta hope I lose the next round to someone good.
latency issues also make it hard to really take it serious. much as it's awesome, I don't mean to sound down on it, it ruins the games.

My fiancee plays SC2.
She gets very frightened when she ladders (Like, not anxious, or worried, or nervous, legitimately frightened) but she still does it!
Super proud boyfriend here.

Lost to a 4gate but it was still a lot of fun. I scouted it even and pushed him back but I tried to take my nat too quickly

I didn't calm the fuck down til I was approaching 10 games played
The first time I won one I actually yelled out "WOO!" I was so excited, and then had to pace around the room for a bit.
There's something about it being LADDER and you have a RANKING on the line and it's 1v1 that makes it very high-pressure. For me at least.

Only being able to blame yourself is the worst part for me. Team games are chill because I can rationalize that it wasn't my fault. Even if I go triple expand versus 4 zerg players.

Yes this is the hardest part for me, I can play team based RTS games fine, and even compete in team FPS games but I just have trouble playing a 1v1, it really messes with my nerves and I get pretty anxious and stressed out quick. Not sure why, just something I need to work on.

Maybe in the big boy leagues. But down here in silver they are all dead silent. Kinda gives them away. But I'm still dumb all fall for it sometimes. At least now I know what forge first means.
I feel like I should upload some losses as well. I have some time over the next few weeks so I can actually commit to getting better. I'd love to get a little Gold in my life, or at least learn to play more consistently.
So gomtv.net shows that the round of 4 starts in 4 hours am i reading this right? Also i just noticed why dhal's avatar looks so wierd to me, it's because i'm used to seeing the jailed symbol XD
Since I'm gonna be away from my computer and there is gonna be some GSL action, I'm thinking we will hit 2,500 posts while I'm asleep tonight. Whoever nabs the thread, please make sure to keep the Replay of the Day updates going.
They've actually been pretty successful.

Here are a few loses. I feel like my reoccurring theme is that I really hurt myself by getting supply blocked. In addition, I need to be better at multi-tasking and could use a bit more focus on micro. Any help is greatly appreciated!
Hey guys, just wanted to run this one by you quickly. After watching the replay it seems I should have got more sentries out, and that I shouldn't have tried to push when I did. Any other tips?

Offhand, I see:
- You didn't get a single observer. What do you think you are, a Terran?
- Your sentries were in front far too often and got munched quite a bit.
- Going heavy immortal is reasonable if you're against heavy roach...but you weren't. Thus scouting.
- In just about every engagement, you had a unit mix that wouldn't be recommended for what you were facing (zerglings creaming your immortals).
- In the next-to-last fight, your stalkers actually were the front line for your immortals--I'm sure you know why that's bad.
- You didn't have enough gates/unit production for way too long.
EDIT: Uh, changes to make would be that you needed to probably do something like this:
- Unless you saw a bunch of roaches approaching, make an obs after the first immo. Scout with it.
- Based on what you saw (ling/roach), add more gates, get a lot more gateway units, expand.
- Lay off the immortals after two or three and transition into colossus tech, especially when he was kind enough to open the short path for you.
- You need the proper stacking of zealots in front, immos and sentries in the middle, and stalkers and colos behind them. Immos do damage much better if their shields are left alone.

I am still learning protoss in many ways, so this is all helpful. Now that I think about it, stalkers out-range immortals, so I'm guessing that's why you don't want the stalkers in front. At the time, my thinking was that the immortals were what I needed to deal with the roaches, so I was putting them at the back to keep them alive. I haven't really got a feel for what the right ratio of immortals to roaches is yet, so I just kept pumping them in case I didn't have enough.
Sentry positioning is something I haven't been quite sure of. I've had a few situations where I put them too far back so more forcefields were delayed. I'll try getting them in the second row behind the zealots in future.
Pokebunny is pretty good I think (high masters?), I've seen him MrBitter's coaching sessions a few times. Didn't know he could go head to head with InControl though.

I loled
oGs is a really strong Korean team and Uniden's a famously bad player from one of the Funday Mondays.
