The Xbox exclusivity... could they be gunning for Summer of Arcade? I hope they get it. I can see the game shares Brutal Legends sense of scale, ranging from the tiny soldiers to the huge monsters. The stationay defenses look like MNC as well.
I love me some Mechassault, and I got to PM Brad Muir once (the Double Fine guy who made this) so I'm super exited.
Also, I love the robots themselves. They are called Mobile Trenches, and they are just a WW2 trench slapped on a pair of robot legs with a dude inside it.

Double fiiiiiiine!
Anyway, Patton would definitely approve of this game. If fixed defenses are a monument to man's stupidity, then mobile fixed defenses would be a monument to man's brilliance.
Thread title should say "You got trenches in my giant robot!"
Yay for all american robots. All the Japanese robots are powered by blood, or A Man's Fighting Spirit, or the Blood of Christ or whatever anti-chrisitanity nonsense they can come up with.[/kidding]
My thought process went like this: Ooo! Double Fine - with robots? This could be cool, man. Oh I see it's like a mecha-Brutal Legend or MNC-EDF type crossover...

This looks pretty awesome.
Can't say I care for the look of the aliens, though. More of that neon-candy plastic insect stuff. It looks downright weird and out of place compared to the rest of the art assets.

So good. Mechassault was my original xbox live bread and butter. Lookin good.
As a developer we do not have final say in the sku plan for our games. That is the decision of the person investing the money, i.e. the publisher. We have much of the technology in place to produce PC versions of all these games, but there is still some more work required to make them shippable and that costs money. So far, our publishers have not elected to fund that work. Not because they hate PC Gamers, but because they don't see enough financial reward. Double Fine does care about PC Gamers, and we always push for a PC version, and will continue to do so in the future. If we ever get super stinking rich here, with enough money to fund PC versions of our games, then we will go back and make them ourselves! Oh man, wouldn't that be cool?
They're coming for your freedom. For your family. For your children. SO HIDE YO KIDS, HIDE YO WIVES, AND HIDE YO HUSBANDS CAUSE THEY RAPIN' EVERYBODY OUT HERE!

... So, in order for them to publish it for PC, they need my monies, but I can't give them my monies because they can't publish for PC.. This is melting my mind!
I so want this game for PC, specially for Steam. This game looks awesome!

I can tell you, however, that Trenched is fucking badical. This is something I actually know. I don't know how things progressed to the point where you can have Double Fine create a whole universe for you every couple Goddamned months, but it's a world I will consent to live in.

Holy fuck, how does Double Fine manage to pump out one shit hot game idea after another?
Tim Schafer broke up the Brutal Legend team into groups, each led by one of his four aces (Tasha Harris, Lee Petty, Nathan Martz, and Brad Muir) and they got two weeks to make the best game they could.
After EA canceled Brutal Legend 2 in favor of more guns and more brown (and even canceling patch updates), Double Fine was at risk of going out of business. In a final saving throw, Tim Schafer pitched those two-week demos to real publishers. Out of a miracle, all four were signed by publishers.
1. Tasha Harris (Brutal Legend animator) made Costume Quest. THQ picked it up.
2. Lee Petty (BL Artist) made Stacking. THQ also picked this up.
3. Nathan Martz made a Kinect game inspired by Sesame Street. Then Sesame Street Workshop actually called him...
4. Brad Muir (lead designer) made Trenched. Microsoft picked it up.
Tim Schafer has been great about making sure these folks get the spotlight. This next game is Brad Muir, so I'm super exited for Trenched. He's the guy who PM'd Kor and me about improving the stage battles, then one month later, produced a balance patch that went above and beyond fans expectations, so I know he can do no wrong.

Yeah, Double Fine is actually working as a cluster of teams dealing with different projects right now. Apparently, poor Schafer really got his heart stomped on with the whole Brutal Legend debacle and decided to try something different for development. Rather than shooting for one big-budget title at a time, he changed things up to make quality low-budget titles, but make more of them.
I really hope he makes a big profit off of the idea. Style certainly trumps graphical fidelity and Schafer is one stylin' dude. I'd rather have cool, memorable games wrapped around neat concepts and stylish art design than fifty billion extra polygons anyway.

Downloadable stuff really is perfect for Double Fine, considering how they don't have to risk all their time and money on one of their crazy ideas that might not be successful
Like, you know, Psychonauts or Brutal Legend
I just wish this would come out on a platform I owned...
I really hope this strategy has worked out financially for them so they can keep it up, because they've been on a roll with quality games and I want it to continue.
For those who missed it, the game has been shown in detail. It's a freaky cross between Brutal Legend and Monday Night Combat. You fight monsters atop a giant robot while building defensive towers and collecting loot to make customizable bots.
The game is very 4-player co-op focused, as well as single player. No competitive equivalent to MNC unfortunately. Instead, the Blitz Mode equivalent is much more elaborate, with it's own ranking system.
Also, since everyone is in a totally fuck-off giant robot, every player is capable of dishing out the dakka. It's up to the team to communicate and work together, shooting and tending to the turrets. I call turret duty. I love my BL units and my MNC turrets. I give them priority, that's my playstyle.
Yeah basically this looks like everything I like in a Friday night co-op game. Cannot wait, so glad it's getting into the Summer thing so plenty folks will buy it.

I hope this is like Mechassault, I played that game more than anything else on the xbox by far.
I LOVED Mechassault. It was all the joy of mechs, but such a simple way to play it. So much more arcade action style than sim-style. So good.
Well I loved Mechwarrior back in the day when i had a PC that could actually play things. I never understood who the real bad guy was at the time because my first game was Mercenaries, and you fight the clans. Then I went back and got the first game, and you play as the clans.
It's a shame FASA went under. I love the mech games and Crimson Skies game. I'm sure Brad Muir's gonna talk about Battletech, ultimately.

Any idea on how much this is going to cost?
But this works too!
Also, saying "M$" should be an infractiable offense.
It's two-thousand-eleven for fucks sake.

I'd like to point out that in 2010 I had to pay for content in L4D2 on the 360 that was given freely on the PC. It's still a valid moniker.
On topic:
That video is 100% not what I was expecting when I clicked on this thread. This game is 100% bought now because of that video.
I'm not gonna lie, my knee-jerk reaction was that Double Fine finally gave in to making a shooter. :P

Just do what Tim Schafer says with Psychonauts:
It started off as a team exercise...
