Jazz, what happened to bloodrayne, has someone new graced your affections?
Hell, what happened to Bloodrayne?
At this point, there have been more BloodRayne movies than games.
Haha, yeah. There will be if Boll gets the third movie out. Actually, the second one was surprisingly not-quite-terrible, although that might've been largely due to the "om nom nom Natassia Malthe" factor.
Rayne's almost past history for me now. Almost. Not quite. Still got a few posters up in my game cave, and a very nice, very limited print in a frame. Still love those games, too. Xbox versions of both are the best, but BR1's not BC and BR2 has a weird BC issue so I just play 'em on my actual old Xbox.
I'm halfway through my hdd and not halfway through my games list. Mind you the larger games have mostly been installed now, with a few stragglers left.
What's your biggest offender?
Mine is Dragon Age Ultimate, weighing in at over 23 GB, according to Steam
Ever since KOTOR's 20MB save files on the Xbox (hey, they were big then, especially on a system with 8MB memory cards), I have realized that BioWare LOVE lots of hard drive space.
ME2's DLC is similar. Boggles my mind how huge some of it is compared to the amount of content in it, as awesome as it is. (Example: Kasumi is nearly as big as Morrowind, and Shadow Broker is half the size of KOTOR. Hell, put all the ME2 DLC together and it's the size of Oblivion.)

Yeah. Dragon Age had to take a vacation from my HDD just the other day. Way too much space for a game I'm not playing much right now. Once I get done with my latest batch of ME 2 playthroughs I'll probably take it off the drive too. Those games are some serious hogs when it comes to HDD real estate.

Dragon Age II is all of 7GB, apparently. Maybe consolification has an upside after all. ;-)
Overall, I enjoy the game, and it's got many hours of gameplay, but if you're looking for something with a lot of tactical depth or prefer games with micromanagement, this isn't it. A mass of troops hurled in the enemy's general direction is about all the strategy you need.
I absolutely don't want a lot of tactical depth or micromanagement, so that's good.

On an unrelated note, and I know I'm probably way late on the uptake here, but have some of the interface buttons vanished from the store? There doesn't seem to be a refresh or a home button now.

You have to go into Settings and turn the URL bar back on. For some reason Valve thought it should default to off.
The silly thing is that they didn't shorten the title bar when they removed it, so the place it should be is just empty space

Only weakness of Steam = It needs to price match Amazon for OLD games.
Example
Mass Effect 2 on Amazon = $13.99
Mass Effect 2 on Steam = $49.99
Really? Here in Euroland, the Steam price started out at 49.99, but it's been at 19.99 for a while now
Yeah it's also been $20 for me for what seems like a long time, in the US.
I just checked it and vanilla ME2 on Steam is $19.99, and I remember it being at that price since late last year or so. Even the (totally not worth it) digital deluxe version is $39.99.
But yeah, dealing with physical inventory might give some merchants more incentive to drop prices faster, at least until their overstock is burnt off.
O_o
That means price drop on Steam are fixed on region.
ME2 is still 49.99 for me.
Digital Deluxe version is $59.99.

Hah, I thought it was just me. I've been wondering where those darn things went off to.
I highly recommend people take advantage of Direct2Drives sale at the moments. 20% Off all RPG's, meaning Magicka can be bought for 8bucks when using the code 'burnout'. And 15% Off everything else if you use the code 'goddesses'
Also Greenman Gaming have Aliens Vs Predator (2010) for 4.98. It of course must be registered on Steam.

I tried to sign up there the other day just to get the free game they're giving away but I tried two seperate email adresses and it said both were already registered. I can't be bothered wading through tech support just to sign up with these guys, colour me unimpressed.
EDIT: the only thing that stops me picking up AvP for $5 iss the thought that if it ever goes on sale on steam the DLC may come with it. Is that dumb?

I signed up for a free game, played it, traded it in, and now I'm playing another game. So I'm pretty impressed. The game I'm playing now, Mount and Blade Warband, even runs without bothering with their stupid proprietary launcher, so that's nice.

I meant D2D not Greenman. Still agonising over $5 AvP is worth siging up to yet another digital distribution service.
Homefront is going for $50USD but if you pre-purchase it you also get a free copy of Metro 2033 which is $40USD, and two other tiny dlc things I couldn't be bothered about.
Question! Is Homefront worth more than $10 as a game to justify buying it now and not Metro 2033 when it goes on sale?

Hugs and Kisses,
Me
I have no opinion on Homefront, but I will say that Metro 2033 is prime Steam sale territory. It could cost a dime and a nickel next weekend. You never know! With summer coming up, you might be better off just waiting.
Homefront, gameplay wise, looks VERY par for the course. If it was anymore generic, the box art would literally just be cardboard. If you're in a Steam thread, chances are your backlog is much like mine and the rest of everyone here, and I would say follow Tren's advice, wait for a Metro sale, and continue playing the games you have.
Metro 2033 really does go on sale all the frickin' time. It's almost in Just Cause 2 territory it goes on sale so often.
Metro is probably a better game than Homefront will turn out to be, but since chances are it'll be $20 or less on its own if you just wait a little while, I wouldn't let its presence as a throw-in influence your decision on whether to pre-purchase Homefront, which is looking very mediocre at this point. The very fact that they've felt the need to attach so many pre-order incentives to the various versions of Homefront (far above and beyond the bonus DLC which is the norm these days...whole additional games, OnLive consoles, etc) raises major red flags for a lot of us. As in, "They're trying to entice as many people as possible to pre-order this clunker so that they make some money from it while they can, because as soon as it's out word of mouth is going to kill it."
So in my continued quest to find a discounted copy of Mafia II before whenever it's on sale on Steam again, I have discovered that there are a small pantload of people selling Steam download codes for it (which came as coupons with Nvidia GPU's and such) on eBay.
I must admit I am rather tempted. Has anybody ever participated in one of these transactions before? Is this even strictly legal? I guess there's nothing wrong with it, if you've got the coupon it's yours to do with as you please.
I should mentioned that the people selling these ephemeral items (well, I guess they claim they'll mail you the actual coupon as well as e-mailing the code) usually have impeccable feedback. Not thousands of ratings like major storefront sellers, but impeccable, everyday-user-type levels of feedback.
Of course, I really can't remember the last time I saw anybody on eBay with bad feedback. And yet a small percentage of people are undoubtedly still getting screwed over everyday. I wonder if the entire concept feedback system has ceased to be useful.
No, the Dreamcast stuff isn't really worth it, but only because they kinda forgot the Q+A stage when doing the ports. Why do I say this? First off, config.exe is totally and completely broken, forcing you to manually edit config.ini. Also, in a special sadistic twist the installation forgets to make the save directories. You can still make them and still save. This is good, because remember the edits you just made manually to the config file? They won't take unless it's in said save directory.
Long story short, they're still decent games marred by shoddy, shoddy porting.
(For the record, I've not purchased them myself, but found these issues when reading up on Crazy Taxi for a possible purchase a little while ago.)
I bought Homefront. I've been craving a military style shooter, and the story intrigued me enough to bite. Also, Drake wanted Metro 2033, and I can't deny a brotha a good game.

It is cool that they're letting people give away the extra Metro copy if they already own it. I really hope that Steam starts moving this way with extra copies acquired in game packs and such in general.

Metro is one of the few games actually cheaper in the EU. For us that game's already 20 Euro and has been for a while. And yeah it's been on sale for very cheap a few times already.
I wouldn't judge Metro as a $40 game if you're taking it into consideration in any significant way.
I've got a bad RPG itch that so far Resonance of Fate, The Last Remnant, and tales of Vesperia have all failed to scratch. Steam thread, is there anything in Newell's Chum Bucket that might entertain?

Eschalon: Book 1 and 2 are both pretty good, if you're into oldschool RPGs.

And a good game it is. I agree with the idea of Half Life meets STALKER. It really does combine the best bits of both worlds and that makes me a happy guy. The gunplay is a blast, and I totally dig the game environments and the storytelling, all of it so far has been really fun. Heck, I'm enjoying it more than Call of Pripyat, just because it has that sweet sweet firefight action that I miss so much in that game.
So yeah, thanks again, in case you missed it in the last thread dude.

Neither here, just bloom and all distant objects on.
But then I don't run AA on anything. Way too much of a performance hit on my modest little GPU.
