Is there a way to schedule STEAM downloads to begin at a specific time? I have unlimited bandwidth after midnight and so would rather my game downloads begun then while I sleep.
After some googlefu, I found someone with this suggestion...
This is how I do it... I have a similar setup of off peak download. What I do is create a icon for the game I want to download eg: Crysis warhead.
It will create one that says d:\games\steam\steam.exe -app 1430340
what you do is create a task that loads this, at a certain time, when it does this it goes "oh you havent got this game loaded just wait while I do this". And bingo your as good as gold. You have it waiting for you ready to go when you wake up.
Done this heaps of times and works a treat.
Sounds like he just has the windows schedule task thing run that at a certain time of night. Then I assume you can then just wake up and pause it to turn it off.
Not in steam itself. You could disable downloads, and then hit 'resume all' and quit steam and use an external tasker application to launch steam at midnight and have it automatically resume your downloads once it logged you in.

Anyone know anything about this Shadow Harvest game? The whole thing screams 'meh' but It also looks a tad Alpha Protocol-y.
I'm only slightly ashamed to say how much I like Alpha Protocol.
I'm the only person in the world who enjoyed AVP =( Well, I enjoyed it for what i paid for it anyhow, $5.
I liked it too! I'm even considering getting the map packs, but I'm not really sure when I'd go back and play some more AvP multiplayer with me just having bought Bulletstorm and Portal 2 being out in two weeks.
My original plan was not to get Bulletstorm until it went on sale, but the demo was too great. I wanted more and I wanted it now. I played for two hours and I am not disappointed.
Will try again later this evening. If still nothing, I guess I'll give up on the game.
If the demo was any indication on how on the level of enjoyment you get and the speed in which individual games take place, it seems like it would be a great lan game to play as filler before or in between games you actually came to play.
Sadly though, I'm decided against spending my cash on filler.

It only just came out, and most people work during the day. I'll try to message you tonight and see if we can coordinate something. The Flyers play tonight, though, so it might not be until after 10pm est.

It depends. There are so many 'AvP' games. The 'AvP: Classic 2000' is probably a great game. It's an update/remake of the 1999 AvP Fox Interactive PC game - which was nearly-half-life level awesome at the time. I haven't played any of the more recent AvP games though (including AvP2), but they have had less stellar reviews.
Looks like if you bought dragonage 2 directly and have the emporium tied to your acount Bioware is giving away Mass effect 2 for free (implied by giving away..).
I don't know if the code is transferable or not but it makes you use the stupid silly goosing EA download manager to to DL using the key code it gives you.
Swinging back over to Hoard, the game lists xbox controller as recommended. How does that work with my Mac OSX? Do I need to buy a USB wired controller to use?

So the Bulletstorm demo is out on Steam and does not support 3D. After Cliff ejaculated all over the place talking about how incredible the game looked on 3D PCs why does the demo not support it? There is no option in the settings and when I tried to force activate 3D nothing happened except for the screen getting slightly brighter. Also gotta love those unskippable forced multi-minute trailers when you try to exit a program, I ctrl-alt-deled that right quick.

The original AvP definitely had scares, but the insane speed at which your character runs is pretty immersion breaking for me. I'll always prefer AvP2, even though it's less scary overall. AvP2 was one of the greatest MP games out there, in my opinion.
You can gift steam games Internationally, correct?
Yes.
In regards to the midweek madness deal - I'm thinking of purchasing AVP, but it must've been quite the failure of a game to be that cheap ($19.99 norm). Plus, I've heard that its multiplayer is awful.
Looks like if you bought dragonage 2 directly and have the emporium tied to your acount Bioware is giving away Mass effect 2 for free (implied by giving away..).

Alright, EA. I'll bite. Thank you very much. (Worked with my 360 copy of DA2, for the record.)
I'll probably still buy it on Steam once it's at stupid-sale price. I wonder how having two licenses for the game tied to one EA account is going to work.
No Cerberus Network with these promo copies, it's worth noting. Which means no Zaeed.

Pretty savvy move, really.
I'll bet a decent number of customers taking advantage of this will pick up Lair at minimum, and probably Arrival as well.
edit: just saw your edit: make that Cerberus Network as well.

Shadow Harvest looks really interesting.
But it also looks pretty dated graphically, it's from a studio I've never even heard of and a publisher with a not particularly sterling record, and it's $36

Anybody have an opinion on this Drop That Beat Like an Ugly Baby game? It's by the AaaaaAAAAaaa guys apparently and I'm a sucker for rhythm games.

I fucking LOVE the concept. I can definitely tell it'll be an amazing game when it's finished. But right now every single fucking song creates the same level for me. Sometimes the order of the segments changes up a bit, but which segment you play seems to have nothing to do with how the music is going.
When the algorithm can come up with more original stuff, I'll be all over this, but I think it's getting shelved for now. If you can shelve digital titles.
I feel the exact same way. Tons of potential, but not a heck of a lot of fun in its current state. It feels like a watered down simplistic repetitive version of AAAaaaAAA (which I adored.) Plus, nothing I did would make enemies generate.
Still, it's only alpha. I'm sure the final product will be awesome when it's done.
Multiplayer is fun on AVP. The story mode is where it lacked, the fun story was the human campaign, then it went downhill. But for $5 its totally worth it. I dont know why its so cool to hate on the game, it really isn't a bad game, it just isn't a stellar one. It runs well on the majority of PC's, it looks good graphically, it plays well enough, it doesn't glitch. It just is mostly average.

No worries, it was from Friday. I just figured that quoting that was the easiest way to sum it up.

I imagine the vast majority of the hate comes from the fact that AvP2 is still a much better game.
If Game 1 is good, Game 2 is great, and Game 3 is only mediocre at best it's obviously going to receive some pretty harsh criticisms.

On the internet at large something can only be AWESUMZ or SUXXORZ, or somesuch.
It's a game that'd get 7s, maybe 6s in reviews, which thanks to the utterly broken perception of video game reviews means it's obviously utter irredeemable shit. Obviously.
7s and 6s are shit on the 7 to 10 scale reviewers use.

Man what, no
This doesn't require any absurd hyperbole
AvP2010 compares unfavorably to its prequel nine years prior, it may still be a decent game on its own merits but in the grand scheme of things that's not saying much when AvP2 is still available for purchase
7s and 6s are shit on the 7 to 10 scale reviewers use.
I think most reputable reviewers (take that to mean what you like) these days are better about using the available scale... it's gamers who tend to see those scores and equate them to "shit". I'm guilty of it myself sometimes.

When I tried the demo I remember the MP being pretty shit. Slow plodding movement, unresponsive controls, and the stupid insta kill system.
Ambiance? What's that? I want my nuclear-ravaged wastelands filled with happy little trees and sunny meadows. And NPCs just aren't credible unless they're immensely physically attractive - rule of thumb, if I don't want to stick my dick in it, it shouldn't be on my screen.
See I actually agree with all those trees being there. If the area was forested before, it should be forested some 300 years after the bombs dropped, irradiated water or not. Trees adapt much more quickly and don't suffer as much from ionizing radiation as we do.
Radiation doesn't make you grow extra toes either, but I don't think many people complained about that bit of fallout 2. It's part of their artistic direction, it's not based on scientific evidence of how radiation works.
