THEY CAN'T HAVE FORGOTTEN ABOUT THE FRANCHISE THAT MADE THEIR STUDIO
THEY CAN'T
WHAT ARE THEY WAITING FOR
It's very simple, they sold their souls to a demon in exchange for a handful of franchises with the crowning jewel being Half-Life. They will live in fame and luxury until the Half-Life series ends, and then the demon will come to collect. So as you can see that is why every single game has been delayed and drawn out in development, and as to why Episode 3 hasn't even been so much as formally announced yet. Really in the end you can drag things out all you want and live good for a few more years, but you can't outrun the devil forever.
This is also the explanation behind DNF. There is going to be a lot of stories about sudden developer deaths in June.
Handy hint for anyone else who's grabbed the free Mass Effect 2 from the Dragon Age II offer:
When you go to make a Steam shortcut, go to the folder where ME2's installed first and remove the "™" from the folder name. Then make the shortcut to the ME2 launcher. Wouldn't work for me until I did that.
EDIT: Apparently the "™" needs to be in place to install the DLC, though, or it gives a "Mass Effect 2 does not appear to be installed" error. D'oh!
But it also looks pretty dated graphically, it's from a studio I've never even heard of and a publisher with a not particularly sterling record, and it's $36
So torn
Totally buy it so you an tell me if it's good.
You guys are in the same boat as me. The game looks interesting, but ive never heard of the developer and haven't heard a thing about the game until i saw it show up on steam. Someone tell me if its good.
I think Valve is afraid to make Episode 3 because they will probably /fail/ at it.
I mean, seriously, if this shit doesn't somehow warp reality and give me a gravity gun to wreck my neighborhood with, I'd probably have to give it a 8/10 for not living up to my expectations at this point.
They've been slowly seeding the code for episode 3 piece by piece onto peoples machines through TF2 updates and steam sale notifications secretly for months now. When the secret at the bottom of this arg is revealed it will suddenly unlock the game and it will appear on everyone's games list fully downloaded and ready to play.
I'm pretty late to the party when it comes to the two HL2 expansions, since I only played them both in late 2010.
But what was the general opinion of Episode 1 when it first came out, 'cause I was pretty underwhelmed by it be honest. Then I played the pure concentrated awesomeness that is Episode 2.
Yeah, no kidding. Love the design decision there. Well played developer.
But man, just so freaky.
I've yet to even get to that point
Spoiler: At the end of that section Rubix referred to:
Where you have to friggin throw body parts into the water to distract the monster. What the hell. So sick. So morbid. But so environmentally engaging.
While it made me think, "Man these developers are sick," it also really pulled me into the fear and intensity of the moment, "Holy crap there are human body parts that I am picking up and using as bait."
I'm really tempted to hit that spoiler, but feel like I should keep it fresh for when I play it. I will say that it will most likely be a few more days before I can play this again. Too freaky to play every day.

I'm fairly certain you're about 5 minutes of shitting your pants away from what I put in the spoiler.

There is still a lot of game to go too isn't there? I feel like I have put a couple of hours into the game so far, but looking at stats in Steam, I've logged a whopping 84 minutes. So either the stats are off, or this game makes me feel like time is passing very quickly.
Well now I kinda want it more but I've spent $TEXAS on games this week.
The review made the game sound pretty much what I figured it would be. Basically a good indie shooter. Nothing really sounded ground breaking or gimicky, so I don't really expect anything more than "par for the course" when it comes to gameplay.
At $35+ though, I'll wishlist it and pick it up a little cheaper.

I haven't beaten it either, but I'd say you're about halfway through? I'm only about an hour or two ahead of you.

I'm just finally getting around to playing through vanilla HL2 (I just started "Follow Freeman").

I started HL2 over 3 years ago. I still haven't finished it. I pick it up for a few hours every 6 months or so. I have to believe I'm close to the end by now.

I haven't finished it because every time I get to a vehicle section, they make me ill and I don't want to continue.
I just picked up HL2 for the first time as well. I'm like 6 hours in, under the bridge. I generally don't like FPS but I finally caved and I'm just playing on easy for the story. I actually enjoy the buggy sections. It feels like I'm travelling across the country on a mission with the pacing of the stops along the way.
AG: For the sake of everybody back home, that’s been desperate to know. Will we ever see it [more Half-Life]?
Doug: You will ever see it, yes. We are not done with Gordon Freeman’s adventures. I have nothing other than that to tell you today, but hang in there with us.
I'm personally hoping they pull a Sega one day and update Steam and be all 'yea Ep 3 is up, go nuts'.
Looks really nice actually, even though it's <20FPS or something maxed out so I need to turn some stuff down. Voice acting is pretty good. Combat seems ok. Character customisation is really disappointing. So far for the 40 minutes that I've played it seems pretty good.

I tried to warn you.
Stay on the box.
It's so intricate that if it's just about Portal 2 I will be so disappointed
This has to be building up to something bigger

I doubt they've forgotten. What with everyone reminding them all the time.
They're just wilfully ignoring you.

There are now fictional people living in "Peeler City" who apparently hold the next steps in the puzzle.
I feel like I'm on the trail of a serial killer who's obsessed with potatoes.
It's all your fault
