Wow, I am really enjoying Champion/Riftblade/Beastmaster. I may have finally stumbled on to my leveling combo. I've been struggling for a while to find a combo I really liked, but this may be it.
I'd heard that Beastmaster kind of sucked. Thoughts?
I've been running a Paladin/Riftblade/Void Walker for general tanking and leveling purposes. I just wish they'd called paladin something else, simply because I hate the flavor of such classes. The abilities are great, however.

The one thing I would really enjoy is the ability to remove the graphic outline around action bar one. And then to have the experience bar in the character window under stats. That way I could have a cleaner UI at the bottom of the screen. Oooh! And to select the number of buttons in an action bar.
Maybe I should submit this somewhere.
You can work around this. I did this:
The main action bar is replaced with another bar and the main bar is dragged partially off the screen in the bottom right so that the XP bar is only showing.
I eventually had to switch back, because when I use a role that includes stealth, it doesn't really work. Since the main action bar switches to a "stealth action bar" when you enter stealth, it kind of messes this up. Unless you're okay with not seeing your abilities while stealthed, hidden off the screen.
I'm gonna have some fun re-arranging with the new UI features today.
So yeah...using the nightblade's ranged sap is AWESOME. Watching people scream "rogue" and "right here," "aoe more damn it" is hilarious as I'm 20yds or more away LOL.

Uh, it's in the notes, but it looks like you can't make UI elements fade on mouse over or during combat. Anyone see this?
* Edit Layout Mode: Elements can now be set to fade in and out when moused over or when entering and leaving combat.

Beastmaster is a great secondary or 0-point soul. There's no pre-30 DPS build that shouldn't have it, really.

Yes?
That's welcome. I have a setup like that for my UI in WoW - my health bars, mana bar, and ability watcher bars on Bartender all fade out out of combat.

Where do I set this up?
They forgot to add the change into this patch, it seems.

If elements can be set to fade in and out, it may be that each element has that option so you have to click on the element in question and select the fade in/out option?
I dunno, the reading makes me think its individual so you have to do this for each element .
Edit: In Edit Layout Mode, that is.

I really agree that Beastmaster as a 0 pointer is a great choice...some extra DPS and a pseudo offtank for free is a no-brainer.
Probably a dumb question, but do we have a guild bank or something along those lines?
Going back to the artifact comments, I have a shitton of doubles (or triples) lying around that I'd love to dump in a gbank for others to use.
Worst case, can we set up an artifact swap list in the OP, or a separate thread?

Oh yes, that's what I was hoping. It's not there. It's nowhere to be found anywhere.
The only changes to the Edit Layout function is that elements now show as their default square size (as opposed to just thin rectangles) while editing, and you can toggle non-essential elements off during editing for ease of use.

Edit:edit: I just bought some runes for the first time off the AH. Naturally, I bought the most powerful runes I could afford/use for my level. Imagine my surprise when 3 out of 5 I can't apply because my gear is too low of a level compared to the runes. This is a heavy handed approach to prevent twinking with runes.
Instead, you should be allowed to apply the rune to any level item as long as that item is equipped on you. That way, there is no way a level 50 could apply an end-game rune to an item and then hand it off to an alt/lowbie. Conversely, that same lowbie can't apply the rune himself because the rune is too high of a level. As it is, my level 20 purple shoulders are better than anything I can get at level 30, but I can't apply a level 28 rune to them because they're too low.
Trying to guess the item level on quest reward gear is absolutely maddening.
I frequently make runes of too high level for quest gear because it lists no item level.
Yeah that is annoying. However, I wonder if it is set to the level of the quest? That would at least give you an indication of an upcoming gear piece. I have not tested this though.

Update on the level 29 change from Chloro/Warlock to Chloro/Archon:
Operation successful! I lost a bit of bonus charge and 4/5 opportunity, but gained +240(ish) hps for each party member, a +5% physical damage bonus for the party, (small) targetted damage absorbsion shield, and bigger bonuses for searing vitality and pillaging stone.
Losing Sac Health: Mana turned out to be managable. I was able to keep up with the two Cholo cooldowns (and the minor bonus from spell crits in Archon).
I'm not sure what to have as my 3rd soul now, I run with a Dominator, so no need for squirrel. Any other worthwhile 0 pointers for Chloro? Maybe Elementalist for the tier 1 +crit?

Dom is still your best bet for a 0 pointer. That other Dom can still only polymorph a single target at a time, and more CC is never a bad thing.
And it's better than the nothing you get from other 0 point souls.

I had something corrupt last night that caused me to have to do a recovery. Basically after 3 mins of playing my game would pause, then update with graphic glitches, then repeat till I finally crashed the program. I thought it was my drivers at first but I didn't see that in any other game.
After recovery, things were fine. Which I was really grateful for as I was getting ROYALLY pissed at having this thing happen for 30 mins straight.

Maybe. I know when I first got my GTX285 I had a lot of graphics issue till I found the fan on the card wasn't even running at 25% its top speed so it was overheating causing issues. EVGA precision cleared that up.
If its program related I'd go for either a recovery first or a fresh install and see. This early on I haven't had any graphical issues till that corrupt issue so I'm not sure what's causing the problems.

Anyone have a recommendation for a starter mage soul? Just something for the leveling process up to level 13, when I can unlock all the souls. I'm looking over the calculator and it's all kind of overwhelming.
I realize that I could probably pick any of them and be fine.
The other thing to consider too though, a bard can't pull anyone out of the fire if they get focused by the other team. Or maybe I haven't discovered a direct heal yet that I can put on someone specific in an "oh shit" situation. It's mainly just shitting heals constantly that affects everyone in range.
That's one of the problems (or powers) of Bards in their current design incarnation. They're absurdly good unfocused raid healers. Is your raid/party's incoming damage spread all over the place (like it is in, say, a disorganized WF pug), then you can't beat that constant bard AE. They carry the curse of chain heal with them. Put a bard healer in pvp against an organized group who communicates, and I just can't imagine they'll be as effective.
But then, I'm a crap PVP'r, so cum grano salvis and more latin.

Sorry for the late reply on this. CaptainK is correct, it's great as a zero point third soul. The pet is just free DPS, plus it gives you a base physical attack (Fierce Strike) that does the same damage as Power Strike (your base Champion attack), gives you an AP and gives the mob a debuff that causes your pet to do 20% more damage. Since it's physical damage, it takes advantage of most of your Champion talents.
So it's really just free DPS along side a Champion/Riftblade build.
The buffs and shitting of heals everywhere is pretty rad. I feel pretty helpless when I try to save someone's ass though. Someone asked about silencing last page, I don't know if bard abilities are considered spells or physical, but I definitly recall being locked out of abilities before from something other than a stun. Not sure what it was though, and iirc the constant heal ticks from the heal motif were still running.
Silky reporting in! I haven't quit the Rift I've just been busy playing Dragon Age 2 which is a good game. You should all be playing Dragon Age 2.
This is truth. It's quite good. Much better than all the pre-release rantery led me to believe.

Speaking of base attacks, how do most people work with those? Every soul gives you a set of basic attacks, but which ones do you use?
For me, with my Champion/Riftblade/Beastmaster build, I use the Beastmaster base AP builder because of the pet damage buff, rather than the Champion base AP builder that does the same amount of damage. My current attack rotation is: Fierce Strike (BM) -> Fierce Strike (BM) -> Debilitating Strike (Champ) -> Punishing Blow (Champ). On elite mobs with a lot of HP, I might use Fiery Burst from Riftblade, just to get the added DoT DPS over the course of the fight.
I guess my question is: Is this what people are doing? Just setting up there attack chains based on the best synergies, or is there some science to it I am missing? You get a lot of redundant attacks in this class system, so setting up the right chain is important.

To the tune of double the healing? At level 30 in a 30-40 WF? I think the others just weren't doing anything.

Get the Elemental Summoner with the 0pt Pet. Nice tank.
Add it to anything else. I recommend Chloromancer, Pyromancer or Warlock.
Toss in Dom at the side for 0pt CC and insta-spam DD for rifts.
Well, right now I just hopped into a warfront and screenshotted my score and as you can see this is pretty much standard for bards.
They just shit out healing in all directions with endless resources unlike other healers
