Oh it gets better. The demo also doesn't let you customize your character looks, or your equipment.
This is despite equipment being available to loot in the demo.
HERP DERP DERP.
A lot of that stuff is actually missing and won't actually appear properly were you to equip things in your inventory and some of the other stuff doesn't work. Like if you hack the character creator to work and make yourself black, you and your family look like you're wearing blackface.
Yea so I'm ready to get off work and feast on this game. Although it's not grabbing me like Origins did so far, I hear it really picks up after a few hours into it. I'm already loving the companions though. Varric is a great character so far. I don't think it helped me that the demo was essentially identicle to the first part of the game.
I just tried it with and without the texture pack and is it just me or does it make pretty much no difference? I mean if i squint and keep my head about 3 inches from my screen i can see a bit more detail on weapon handles but that's it, it seems pretty pointless.
Also, i've been in a complete DA2 blackout, i made the main character a warrior, did they pull the same "you get 4 warriors to choose from, and only two of every other class, and one of your mages is a goody two shoes you'll need to kill every time leaving you with only one mage if your main isn't one ololol" bullshit from one, making picking anything but a mage a terrible, horrible decision?

Well, if you look at the page where you download the texture pack, it even says right there that it won't make much of a difference outside of DX11. I assume they look nicer with the more detailed shaders and lighting effects.
Pretty low reviews, I am surprised. Reading some of the reviews they don't even really have a problem with the game, just the idea that what they thought the game should have been didn't match what the game turned out to be. Pretty strange, reviews are becoming increasingly irrelevant if reviewers can't review a game as a game and not some idea in their head of what The Game should be.

I'm running it in DX11 and like i said, still barely any difference as far as i can see between highest settings with and without the back

Reviews have been largely irrelevant for a long time. I guess they still matter to the unwashed gaming masses, but to the average person who is going to play Dragon Age, they get their "review" from word of mouth. Either friends, or forums, or their WoW guild or whatever.
Game journalism has been going down a slippery slope of editorial-ism for a long time. Obviously a review has to be subjective to some extent, but they've gotten way too subjective.

Well there's only a few reviews posted so far and an 85 score seems pretty good to me /shrug Although I guess it's a far cry from the perfection that was Mass Effect 2, talk about a review friendly game.
Personally, I'm expecting everyone who ordered the game from one of those sites advertising the Signature Edition after the deadline is going to get screwed.
New Egg let me order it, but I checked in to be sure. Guess what? They told me they couldn't honor it unless they "got more in stock". So I stuck with PS3 preorder from Amazon instead of swapping to PC.
I ordered from overstock and it says it shipped today, we'll see what actually arrives in the mail in a few days.

I also found this odd. Just read the gamespot review and half the article is looking back on the original compared to the sequel. It read like, this game is a 9.5 but its not what i want so 2 marks off.
I see why they are doing what they are doing, but its still weird. Alas reviews are inherently flawed, and they shall forever be so.

I just bought a new 560 ti Ferma card and assumed I could bump everything up to full for Dragon Age 2.
Nope, game runs like shit. Anyone else encountering this?
Nvidia cards having problems with the dx11 renderer dragon age 2 is using. There are some beta drivers that might help on the nvidia website.
In my experience, nVidia is pretty good about patching based on specific game issues. Which doesn't help you *now* but I wouldn't be surprised if they have this patched in a couple weeks.
So hang on a second - is there a high texture pack for Dragon Age 2, or did I confuse that with Origins? Because I can't find one for the sequel in the OP, besides how could there already be a high texture pack if the game was only released today. Can someone clear this up for me?
so which version do I buy? 360? PC? Which is best?
Apparently the 360 version (and I think the PS3 version?) are missing code to allow auto-attacking. BioWare is working on a patch, but yeah.
In any case, I'm pretty sure PC version is going to be the better version here. DA:O for sure controlled better with a keyboard, and I assume this will be a similar case.

yeah they certainly know about it and have been making a lot of beta drivers

There are certainly some valid criticisms, and some points that we saw coming.
But I do admit that it's a little odd when you get 60% for length of game when earlier in the review they talk about the 60-70 hours they put in.

I am just trying to make sense of how ME2 is The Sequel and DA2 is just dumbing down the genre? What the fuck?

Totally.
Game reviewers are becoming a greater and greater irrelevance, its just a shame that so many people listen to their shit.

Just finished my last exam last night, partied hard afterwards and planning on going out to pick this up soon.
Still a few hours for me... *grumble*
My last midterm was yesterday, muahaahahahahah
Which means it'll be sitting there this weekend when they are done with them

Hopefully this game will be discounted by the time I buy it...next week.

Also, minor story quibble:
It's a common enough RPG quibble, but you know.

EDIT: Oh, great. Apparently higher end NVIDIA have big driver issues with this game. Wonderful.

I'm fast approaching a crossroads... should I roll mage or rogue? I wish I knew the viability of aura buff/debuff / cc melee mages.
