Odd, I don't understand why people hate that quest so much. The only problem I had with it was a triple pull orc spawn before you get to the 'fortified crossing' or what ever it's called. The worst thing about the gredbyg is that stupid scissor noise that the warriors make. It really creeps me out.
I also cannot tell you how much I hate the damn orcs that get the interuptible immunity with full health regen. Fight one, no problem, their induction is easily interruptible, but if you fight 2 back to back my damn induction would still be on c/d, so I'd basically just stare at the screen for 30s before I could do anything.

Yeah, the thing they did with opening the entire map from the get-go was kinda silly. Though, being an old-ass man who's been playing LOTRO for longer than I care to ever fucking recall (O.G. Juggalo down with the clown since beta, dawg), it really didn't affect me in the slightest. I can definitely identify though with those who haven't physically explored every single inch of the game world yet. Though it's definitely going to suck having all of the RoI areas revealed to me before I get the chance to explore and get lost and subsequently eaten by things that are actually above my level for the first time in years.

It's not that any of the pulls are particularly difficult. It's that you're fighting through approximately seven hundred miles of corridor with an orc or two every six feet, so you can't even train them all to the end or you'll still have to deal with the half dozen still within aggro range. (Actually you can do this but you have to run for a while past the camp and then fight your way back.) And it's a long walk to even get to the start of that corridor, and once you've reached the camp itself you look at the map and realize that the only thing separating you from the 21st Hall is a freaking pile of rubble.
Then they make you go back.
The camp itself is about ten times easier than it was at Moria launch, when the bugs respawned much faster and you couldn't take a step in there without aggroing three of them.
First they came for the Muslims, and we said NOT TODAY, MOTHERFUCKERS
yeah, I'd heard the aggro range and respawn rate has been significantly scaled back there. I always hop a ride to the 1st hall to get half of the PITA done with. In fact I found Moria to be kind of a money sink, because any time I could hop a ride that would take me past where I need to go for a quest, I would take it just to avoid all the frustration of slowly fighting your way there.
Also more mobs to whine about: Diseased dragonets and those stupid warg riders. The dragonets because you have to sorta kite them a bit when they do the acid AOE, and you know how dense moria is with mobs in the first place, the wolf riders because of their damnable laugh. It really makes me want to punch my screen.
I prefer MMO maps to be filled in as you go also. It makes stuff like the old forest trivial, and you don't get the surprise of coming across a new landmark when exploring.
Originally the old forest wouldn't fill in even once you'd explored it.
Edit: I'm also pretty sad that they broke up Haudh Iarchith since that was one of my favorite public dungeons. The best place for Tier 5 scholar relics, too. I appreciate that you can go into a lot of the barrows now, but couldn't they have created new interior spaces for that? It's not like most of them are very complicated. Just a hallway with a round room at the end.

I completely agree about the Fog of War removal. Especially with a full army of alts, this was one of the main ways I could keep track of where each one has been. At least make it an option!
Meanwhile... so I get to the 300 tasks with my burglar, only to find out that there's now a 400 TASK deed! I guess it's back to Task Mule status for Vilric again, and I now have to consider whether to keep my cappy on Task Mule duty, seeing as how he's almost to 53 already and about to hit the 300 task level. Any word on whether tasks will be added beyond level 53?

And everything inside would aggro. And the trees weren't just signatures or whatever they are now. The only reason I went in there with my first char was to get all the flowers for the deed, and that was when I was 10-15 levels higher than the mobs.
I miss areas like that, there's rarely areas in an MMO that inspire such dread.

So after having bought this game back in 2009 and messing around for a month on a computer that really couldn't run it, I picked this up again a few weeks ago. I just saved up enough money on my main, Penwood the Warden on Vilya, just now to buy my first house an I figured I would past some screens.
Say hi, Penwood.
This is my first cosmetic outfit, I need some darker boots but I love the Warden's Pack
This is my second cosmetic outfit, but I still need to do some work on it.
My house, situated beside a lovely waterfall.
And finally, the view from my front door.
I really like the Shire in general. I think they did a good job with the area design. I remember spending a while there during the summer event a year or two ago.
I loved that first summer that they added the eating races. I had so much fun goofing off on the Hill with other players, /cheering for my favorite hobbit. (Gladdy will consume all of middle earth.)
Turtleant, if we were on the same server and in the same neighborhood we would practically be neighbors. :P
i'm still vaguely around, but my pc's motherboard decided to give up the ghost

Very nice. On my first main server (Nimrodel - I actually got 8 of my guys there past 20 before moving over to Landroval, part of why my guys here are still a ways away from 65) I had a basic house in the Elven homestead, and when I went house shopping on Landroval, I actually would've preferred a Shire or Bree address, but put practicality ahead of aesthetics and ended up setting up house at Thorin's Halls. I wanted a deluxe house as close as possible to the housing vendor area, and at that time the dwarf house I chose was much closer than any deluxe house in Bree or the Shire (I ruled out elf housing both because I already had one on Nimrodel, and because deluxe elf houses have the second chest upstairs). I like my house, but I still sometimes wish I'd been able to find a suitable Shire or Bree home.
Houses payments aren't bad if you wait until level 30 or 40 to get one. At that point, 20 to 40 minutes of bashing monsters will pay for a week of rent depending on your house size.

Well I've been selling stacks of 25 ash logs for 250 silver pretty reliable so I'm not too worried about rent. My RL friends are on Vilya or I would have rolled on Landroval, though I might still have a character or two on there from way back when.
I love my house in Bree. Good location, it looks somewhat decent at this point. The only downside is there's one house between me and the center of town and it's owned by some guy named Orgazmo. It still kinda bugs me to run by and see his name on the house (other than that it's great... goddamned neighborhood kids. Get off my lawn!).
Turtleant, you should try to convince your friends to reroll on Landroval. Besides being a pretty good server (it's always fun to participate and/or mock the rp that goes on in Bree... depending on your mood), Hjartard (TripleB) gives out gold and blowjobs to anyone and everyone to get them into the kin.
I've been out playing AoC (it's not bad and for f2p it's actually pretty great), but have preordered Isengard and so will be back in force once it comes out (or maybe even a bit earlier just to dust off all my guys and pay the fine to get my house unlocked).
edit - also, when the fuck are the lotteries coming back? I enjoyed those and they were a good way to keep me logging in, even when I wasn't particularly focused on playing the game.
Yeah, for the 'standard' house rent is 50s for a week. Cheap. I'm looking to get the deluxe house just so I can get more storage space. I'm definately going to scout out a convenient location. I'd prefer to have my house as near to the entrance of the neighborhood as possible. Not sure I like the Thorin's hall homesteads, which I'm in now, because your lawn is just raw dirt. I wish they could have prettied up the lawn more, perhaps have it be tiled brick or something.
(other than that it's great... goddamned neighborhood kids. Get off my lawn!)
Haha. In the shire homestead, I have one of the houses behind the gigantic tree in the corner of Myrtle court. There are three hobbit children that sit right in front of my yard and I occasionally /shakefist at them.

Hjartard (TripleB) gives out gold and blowjobs to anyone and everyone to get them into the kin.
This is a lie. I've always been more adamant than anyone that the kin remain PA-only. I'm not inviting a bunch of outsiders.
Hrm... Perhaps I misspoke. By 'everyone' I mean 'everyone from the PA boards'. Not your random emo-rping elf you find in a dark corner of the Pony. You could say, if they have no idea what a blowbo is, they're probably not invited. But if they do, well, the gold and 'fun times' never end!
edit - (To keep Triple B from hunting me down and murdering me) Me promising other people to give you gold may or may not be an accurate description of what life in the kin is actually like. Believe what I say at your own risk.
I've always wished I was on Landroval with you guys, but I'd feel like a traitor to all my friends and girlfriend on Windfola. That, and I can barely even focus on same-server alts. :P
Still, it'd be interesting to start a fresh captain actually knowing how to play the class. Maybe when I hit the new level cap and finish everything there is to do in Isengard other than repeatables.

So I just snagged this this morning and have taken a Captain through the intro (on Landroval - I'll ask for an invite next time I'm on). What do I need to know about this game?
If you stick with the game you should subscribe for one month to unlock a bunch of stuff that would cost way more than the subscription cost and then log into the two characters you will keep to make sure everything gets unlocked.
In general as you are going through the game you'll start unlocking virtues. As a captain never underestimate the ones with vitality and Melee defense. Also go for gear with Vitality above all else as you level up.
Use your herald as an off tank. Do not set it to aggressive. Set it to passive or do not attack mode. The second one will require more manual control but it is worth it.
That's all I can think of right off the bat.
Mostly just huntin' monsters.

There's room for all of you, mang. I mean I know nobody likes to have to start fresh...just a thought, though. You get them to sign up here, have them post a bit, and it's a done deal. :P
The other thing I'd say about buying VIP for a month, is that you're better off doing it when you start getting towards the end of the quests in the Lone Lands, since up till then, all the zones have their content available to free players. If you hold off until you're ready to move on, you'll be unlocking ALL of the content for that month, and you can decide where you want to put your TPs based on where you want to keep questing.
Another option, and a far costlier one, but worth it IMO, is to get the 'Legendary' pre-order for Isenguard, as it will give you a clear questing pathline to get you through the game. With the TP's you earn for deeds in those zones, you should be able to buy a whole lot.

I've never bought a house. it always seemed to me an ingame expense I just didn't need.
That's probably why Pheny looks like a deranged hobo.
I got mine when that was the only way to have shared storage -- much easier than mailing items to other characters (and sometimes to the wrong one!). I still rely on it pretty heavily, though. All of my guys generally start and end at my house. The one I'm going to play will unload all unneeded non-bound items into a housing chest, possibly overflowing into the second, then take (buffs, rep/task, maybe some craft items) and deposit (bound items not being used) at the shared vault as needed, then port to his current milestone (or ride to Thorin's Gate stable and head out from there). As I accumulate items that may be useful to other characters, I either put them in a designated tab in shared storage when passing by vault locations, or beam home to drop them in the available housing chest and stop by the vendor for discounted repairs before continuing with my adventuring. When y'all see me cycling through characters, I'm usually either picking up goodies from the house chests, checking mail or updating stats on my spreadsheet (or trying to decide which one to play based on what I want to do and which ones need to do it). The only time I log out at any other location is after making a stop home at the end of the day when I'm certain I'll be back on that character next, which I do sometimes so that when I return all my travel cooldowns will be up.
what really drives me nutty is that bound Legendary Items can't even go into the vault. What's up with that?

Triple BBastard of the NorthMARegistered Userregular
The house chests one I can kinda understand, because if you're the owner you have the ability to give everyone permission to use your chests, iirc. The vault though? Yeah I don't know.
i'm p. sure Turbine is aware that we'd like a Housing upgrade soon. My biggest qualm is that there aren't enough hooks to place all the stuff I collected on. I had to trash my 50 pound salmon the other day! The horror!
They must realise that they can't just go on releasing more housing items without giving us more options to display them or make it easier to play around with them. Basically: I want a trophy room.
