Hey there guys, I am in need of a new monitor. Probably a good widescreen around 20 inches or so with a 5ms response time or better. Some of the features I would like on it though would be reliability as well as at least 1 dvi port, but if possible, either two or even a single HDMI port. Of course, Im going to be using this bad boy for gaming and am having a hard time finding a good monitor for my budget. If it is a worthwhile monitor, I don't mind shelling out some big bucks but if it totally isnt worth it, than fuck it. I would like to spen around $200-$250 range, but I was looking at this monitor and was pretty well convinced except when I heard of the DVI ports crapping out and HDMI fucking up.
I'm not finding any coupons but $320 is still a good price. Is the jump from DVI to Dual DVI to HDMI worth gambling on a possibly borked port on the Sceptre or should I really just go dell?
My Circuit City just got the Samsung 206bw in, and they have it listed at $239 right now, which I think is a great deal. Its not on their website yet, and I'm not sure if everywhere has them, but I picked one up and its amazing. 20" wide, 2ms grey to grey refresh, and a 3000:1 contrast ratio. I'm loving it so far.
Okay guys, I think Im going to go ahead, and pull the trigger and go with the Sceptre. Apperantly they are the company that sells a shit load of monitors and such at stores like Walmart and Costco but this is one of their higher end models and well, Im eager to find out. Their website seems very weak, and their tech support yeah, they didnt pick up the calls but I talked to a business rep and he told me that while he personally hasnt heard anything of backlights burning out or DVI ports on the fritz, he basically told me "You can go with us or not. We can't sell you peice of mind in a product or confidence in a company." He later went on to say, "sometimes our competitors will post bad customer reviews to try and sway opinion but I havent heard anything wrong with our monitors."
I don't know but I think I am going to go ahead and buy the Sceptre. It really does seem like a hell of a fucking monitor if it really holds up and if it is true, the DVI ports are DOA, then I can get New Egg to replace them since it is a genuine problem worth RMAing. I only need to watch out for Dead pixels, but with programs light Undead Pixel, and positive reviews from the website, it seems I can be pretty well covered there. Thoughts on this move? I am currently using an Analog HP monitor which I bought less than a year ago. Worthwhile, but it isn't no HDMI 22" widescreen that fits the bill.
EDIT: After doing a bit more research and soul searching, I think I know why I'm looking to buy this monitor, dispite very obvious flaws. Recently I got about $250 in some backpay from work and well, have had an itchy palm to sort of spend it on something big, like Im sure all you guys have experienced and this really is the only thing hat has excited me in a while. Oh well, I guess I will stick to Analog right now but will later upgrade. Probably after I get other upgrades for my computer. Like more Ram and Vista.
