Can anyone offer opinions of microSD card manufacturers like PNY, Sandisk and Lexar? Those are the brands Best Buy carries and I have a $10 credit there that's about to expire and I'd like to use it up. I have no idea the difference in quality or what i should be looking for an an MSD card since I've never shopped for one before.

I renewed my Kaspersky last night on my PC and it gave me a month free of the mobile security.
The problem is, the QR code and URL it gives me to download the software seems to be blocked
by my phone. I get the message saying "3rd Party Program Download is Blocked by Phone"...
so for some reason, gtalk on my nexus has decided to stop working. it flashes on briefly then minimizes out to the home screen. i can't switch to it via the open apps think and despite it showing that its recently used, it is not in my running apps tab

Is there a work around for this?
have you enabled side-loading on your phone?
also if you are on ATT you can't do that regardless

Got Netflix running on my Droid X. It does indeed work on the deodexed .596 build of Gingerbread, and it is really awesome.
There's a hack available to get it running on phones that aren't officially supported yet. It requires root and playing with some system files, so realize that there's a risk of bricking your phone. And as always, back your shit up before messing with anything and have your .SBF file handy (if there's one available) in case it goes tits up. This hack also works with a hacked Nook Color. I'm assuming it'll work with a Droid X, but if you're going to risk doing this you might as well go all out and install the .596 deodexed Gingerbread build. I don't know if it works with the full stock .596 build, though (which is an upgrade path to the official VZW Gingerbread build that's suppose to be out by the end of this month).
Incredible 2, Wildfire S, and Desire HD have had their source codes released. Rejoice!
Not really. The class of a memory card is just a simplified measure of how fast you can read/write to it. You can find the scale on wikipedia if you really want.
My understanding is that, yes, some programs will run poorly on a slow memory card. I would try to find out the speed of the built-in memory and match that, to ensure similar performance.
So, possibly stupid question - do you need to buy/install a memory card to have the room for apps on your phone? I'm wondering if I'll need to buy a card on the 26th along with the droid x2 I plan on picking up.
All Android phones come with built-in storage that can only be used by and to store apps. I think the DX2 has 8gb's internal storage. They also come with a microSD card already installed. I don't how big the one in the DX2 is, so I would either wait and check the phone's specs on Google's phone site or ask the rep when you pick it up.
Got to play around with a Xoom 3.1 today. Holy shit it is so fast. Like it seriously rivals the iPad in terms of responsiveness and speed. There was absolutely no lag or anything, it was fantastic.
So what's this about the 18 months of updates thing, does it actually mean anything.
Well, the idea is that you won't be S.O.L. for updates when the carrier decides to release a new phone with a new version of Android like they tend to do. In theory, of course, there are plenty of loopholes like the fact that there's nothing binding about the proposal.

Yeah, I'm still on my shitty devour till I pick another phone. The Devour came out with an old version of Android, and was completely and totally abandoned in terms of updates the second that Motorola came up with a better selling phone. It would've been nice if I'd at least gotten a year of updates.
Getting frustrated with my calendar. Hoping for some advice/help:
I enter a new appointment in my calendar. Let's say 10AM. I put in all the details, hit save. I see my day view after saving the appt and it says 11AM. I check my widget, which also says 11AM. I edit the appt and the time is set for 10AM.
I have a recurring appt from last fall that was fine, 6PM - 8PM on Wednesdays, now it's 7PM - 9PM.
What's going on? I would say it's a time zone issue, but there's no time zone setting in my phone that I can find, I haven't left my time zone since I got this phone, and my time, time widget, and anything else that shows the time shows it correctly.

That's my thought, but I see no way to change DST or the time zone in Android or Google Calendar.
fake edit: Found something. All events I create on my Android are being made in the "(GMT-05:00) America/Atikokan" time zone instead of the "(GMT-05:00) Eastern Time" time zone. Now I just gotta figure out how to make my Android use the right time zone..

Yeah, all I have is "Use 24-hour format" or "Select date format". No Time Zone or Automatic setting to uncheck. I think something is wrong with my Velocity ROM. Going to go post on their forums to see what's up. Velocity 1.0 was fine, but 1.1 is apparently what is doing this to me.
I have to admit, I don't really understand Amazon's free app of the day program. It's awesome, but I don't understand the marketing strategy. I never buy anything, and I get all the stupid little apps I could ever want to entertain me while I poop.
Speaking of Amazon App store. I hoard the free apps. So many I've "bought," but not installed. My wife now has a Wifi Streak. I've linked it to my Kindle account, can I link it to my App Store account and send some of my "purchases" over to her?

Yes. I've linked multiple Android devices to my Amazon account. Doesn't seem to be an issue.
I've also hoarded the free apps. Never bought anything, but loving that they've pretty much put all the apps I've wanted up, as well as plenty of other awesome ones. I believe what they are trying to do is train you to go to Amazon's app store instead of the market when you want something, so eventually, at some point in the future, if you buy an app, you will do it from them. Considering the millions of android devices out there, I'm sure it'll work on a few people.
Anyone else unable to run Chuzzle today? It says right in the description that it won't run on the Ally, but I tried anyway. Sure enough it didn't work, which is annoying, but hey, free. It'll probably run on whatever device I get next.
My Amazon free app wishlist:
Launcher Pro
WidgetLocker
If I could get the paid version of Launcher Pro, and get WidgetLocker, I think I'd be set on my device. Oh, and Titanium Backup would be cool too, but not really necessary.
My HTC Incredible just froze up and I can't use the touchscreen. I got a prompt after a while and sent an error report and it was ok after that.
Could this be due to the fact that I just installed swiftkey? Has anyone else experienced something similar.
Can't say I've experienced it, but it's a possible conclusion. Did you disable your other keyboard(s) in settings before trying to use swiftkey? Maybe a glitch where both tried to start at once?

Well, you can root your phone if you so desire.
