My HTC Incredible just froze up and I can't use the touchscreen. I got a prompt after a while and sent an error report and it was ok after that.
Could this be due to the fact that I just installed swiftkey? Has anyone else experienced something similar.
Can't say I've experienced it, but it's a possible conclusion. Did you disable your other keyboard(s) in settings before trying to use swiftkey? Maybe a glitch where both tried to start at once?
No I didn't, it kindof started itself.
I'll go back to the standard keyboard for a while and see what happens. I never got the hang of swiftkey anyway.
I have to admit, I don't really understand Amazon's free app of the day program. It's awesome, but I don't understand the marketing strategy. I never buy anything, and I get all the stupid little apps I could ever want to entertain me while I poop.
The same reason Valve gave away Alien Swarm for free instead of charging money for it. It gets people to install and use their store.
I have my first IRA and Intermediary Bond Fund, so I'm using Finance for the first time.

More and more and more reports are pointing to first week of June for the release of the Evo 3D. My body is ready...
But yeah the memo from Radio Shack about the 4th being a rough release date. Internal reports saying most likely first week. Other internal reports saying that Sprint store employees are being told they can't take the first 2 weeks of June off for an undisclosed reason. Oh and the fact that it would line up perfectly with the Evo 4G's release last year.
Anyone know a good camera replacement app? The LG app is nice, but in auto mode the camera smoothness is as bad as my iPhone 3G, that's concerning. Sure it's probably a software issue, but in the meantime I'd rather use something that I can..you know, reliably use.

For a Android tablet, can anyone recommend a decent video-player/codec combination? I'm not really digging the stock multimedia program on the Froyo ROM I'm running...

I like FXcamera. Along with doing (obviously) effects shots, it takes standard shots.
Body is really nice, full metal body provides a nice weight and thrickness to the phone compared to the galaxy s 2. The camera and video cam were a little juddery compared to the GS2 but were good enough for daily use.

Not sure how well it'll work on a tablet, but I use doubletwist for all of my video viewing.

Well, then, I shall give that a go. Definitely will make life simpler if it handles the videos, as it would mean only one app for both major sources of media. Gracias!

Any experience with putting 720p through it?
It plays the 720p .3gp videos I take with my Droid X camcorder without any issues.
Anyone have a solution on the Droid X for the facebook contact sync issues? On the stock ROM and Apex neither of them have the option to not sync contacts when you register the account on the phone. I think its some stupid problem with the Droid X and there's no way around it but I don't want to flash another ROM just yet if I'll have to same problem with something else.
So while I'm pretty excited about finally getting Netflix on Android, I cannot for the life of me seem to get it working. I installed it from the Marketplace, and it promptly crashed on loading every time. I then ran the "fixed" version from the xda page, but I can't get it to play anything. It just says that it can't connect to Netflix, even though I'm on wireless and sitting two feet away from my router.
Hmm, the Googles are telling me this is a pretty common problem, and it seems to vary depending on phone model. Oh well, I'll give it some time to see if Netflix can get it ironed out.
I broke the digitizer on my droid incredible when I was drunk last weekend. I just did the fix this morning. The new digitizer was $24, and I already had the tools.
Taking a cellphone apart is extremely nerve racking. I definitely don't have the hands of a surgeon. Fixing it on my own instead of getting a new phone is a very rewarding feeling, though!
Overstock is selling refurbed Nook Colors for $225, but using the code 206777 nets an extra 20% off. That link should also net you free shipping, but apparently using the 20% off code is removing the free shipping option so who the hell knows. Those looking for a sub-$200 Android tab (after a little tinkering) would be wise to get on this.
Well, I'm looking to get into the smartphone market now that my museum piece of a mobile phone has died after eight years of faithful service. I'll be doing a lot of travel with it - my family's all in the U.S., but I'll be all over the place. Nigeria will be the base of operations for now, with work taking me all over sub-Saharan Africa and the Middle East in the short term. Does anyone here know of a quality online knowledge base for expat smart phone users? My Google-fu's returned a lot of questionable crap.

You need to root it, which is incredibly simple (Google it). You can run whatever you want on it once it's rooted (including CM7 and Honeycomb), and it's widely regarded to be the best "tablet" for the price range.

Tempting, but I already have an iPod touch and am getting an Evo 3D next month. I'd like it, but all I'd be gaining is a few inches when the Evo will already have all features otherwise.
ARRGGHH.. So frustrated. My sister-in-law got an old Droid 1 given to her and I'm trying to install CyanogenMod 7 on it and it's been nothing but frustrating since she handed it to me. It's not activated yet, so I'm trying to get it all set up for her before she starts to use it.
1: Won't work on my wifi - don't know why, but it refuses to pass any data traffic on my wifi connection. Works fine at my in-laws, where I am not currently, but not at my house.
2: Trying to bypass the wifi by manually downloading files to install a custom recovery and mod, but everything in Google refers to ROM Manager, and despite manually downloading ClockworkMod Recovery, it still fails because it's trying to connect to the internet.
3: Tried a custom SPRecovery but it won't recognize the CyanogenMod 7 .zip file. Tried re-packaging it as a .tar (since it gave me a "no tar found" message), but it still says it doesn't find any.
4: Can't find any working instructions to install ClockworkMod Recovery manually (that worked).
5: Still won't connect to wifi. Seriously, why won't it connect? It "connects", says it's connected, but then doesn't pass any data along. Ugh, just so frustrated. Going to just give up and wait till I get some working wifi or she gets it activated and just use the data plan.
6: Biggest gripe about Android, for as many things as you can do with it, many are poorly implemented so it takes 10x longer to find an answer for a problem and 20x longer to figure out how to actually do it because there are 5 different instructions and methods for performing said task.
Rant over, continue on. (My LG Ally took me like 15 minutes - and works fine on my wifi)
So my 2 year contract is up with Verizon and I'm looking to upgrade from an LG Env3 to an Android Smartphone. Any recommendations on phones? Anything I should know about data plans?

Droid X2 is releasing Thursday, the Incredible 2 is also good if you want something a little smaller and less powerful. If you live in a LTE area, the Samsung Charge just came out and is getting some good reviews compared to the Thunderbolt.
Unlimited data plans are rumored to be discontinued at some point in June, so if you think you'll use a lot of data, grab one now for the next 2 years or if you want a cheaper data plan than $30/mo, wait and see if they offer a tiered option. There is currently no option other than $30/mo.
7: Sister-in-law's Droid 1 won't push data through my work's wifi router either. Really weird.

Verizon Wireless plans to kick off pricing changes this summer by eliminating smartphone plans that allow unlimited Web access for a flat fee. It will replace them with tiered pricing that forces heavy data users to pay more for mobile data.

WEP, WPA or open? I recall (can't remember if it was an issue with the stock rom, or just a custom Rom) that there was an issue with my D1 and WPA routers. I have (had?) a patched set of wifi files installed.
Maybe try killing any security on your home router just for a test.

Also what version of Android is she running?
Stock ROM 2.2.1
Home: I use WPA normally, but tried shutting it off and it still wouldn't pass data through.
Work: WPA
Her house where it worked: WPA2
Would installing CyanogenMod7 install updated or different wifi files or is that something different I'd have to search out and install? Want to make sure she's capable of using Wifi so she can connect to them at school and stuff and not have to rely entirely on her data plan.

I'm pretty sure the fixed wifi files have been added to the latest CM7. I don't recall having to drop new files in a few months.
So, looking back over your rant, you haven't gotten root yet? Rom Manager won't do anything until you have root.
Got root, that was the easiest part. Hardest part is doing anything after that without wifi access to the Market or for Rom Manager to download files from servers for ClockworkMod Recovery, etc. I tried manually installing with RSD Lite but couldn't find a working sbf file for ClockworkMod and the SPRecovery that did work would give me a "no tar found" error.
Anyway, I'm not going to worry about it till I get some wifi. If I can get ROM Manager access to the servers and get ClockworkMod installed, then I can flash to CM7 and hopefully fix the Wifi issue. My problem is that I was frustrating myself trying to find a way to do it manually, and it just wasn't a good idea to pursue.

8. The SBF install goes fine, but when I go to apply the update.zip file in SPRecovery I get this error:
E:No tar archives found
Go back and re-read step #14-#16 of the detailed procedure. You chose "Choose ROM from SD card" which is not the right option.
14 In the SPRecovery menu, use the volume up/down keys to highlight "install" and use the camera button to choose it.
15. Now highlight "Allow update.zip Installation" and choose it. [It will appear to do nothing -- that's normal. If you're unsure if you clicked it or not, choose it twice, it won't hurt.]
16. Finally, highlight "Install /sdcard/update.zip (deprecated)" and choose it.
Thanks for the tips guys. I'm going to wait till I can check them out in person, but I think I'll be processing more then downloading, so I'm leaning towards the dual core!
Penny-Arcade, help my justify buying a Nook Color and putting Honeycomb on it. I have been looking for a cheap tablet for a while and it seems like the Nook Color isn't complete garbage when it comes to the touch screen or internals like a lot of other tablets at that price range. I can get it now for about $185, so it is $65 then normal. Should I do it? Y/N?
Currently have a desktop and want something I can bring with me places and enjoy the internet. without lugging my desktop with me. Currently am a poor college student. How much do e-books generally cost also?

I appreciate the looking, I did read through that, and they are installing an update.zip which I did actually to manually update to 2.2.1, but I was trying to load a custom ROM with SPRecovery and that's where it didn't work properly.
Can anyone recommend a podcatching app with any passion? Google Listen kind of sucks. I guess Doggcatcher is pretty popular?
I like the interface in acast. Streaming doesn't seem to work correctly (stops playing, and if you have it play again it starts from the beginning), so you have to download the podcast if it's over half an hour or so.
I still like it better than the other ones I've tried (hated the interface in BeyondPod, no way to remove items in Hapi Podcast besides listening to them, doubleTwist's lock screen thing didn't play well with the HTC Sense lock screen).
