Edit: it's also theoretically possible someone could convince me to get the One X.

I'm just being dumb and pedantic here, but technically Sprint doesn't have the One X; it has the EVO 4G LTE, which is superior to the One X in certain respects (it has a micro SD slot and a kickstand). Personally, that's what I'd go for, since I find HTC's SLCD2 screen vastly superior to the Samsung SAMOLED, I prefer HTC hardware to Samsung hardware (and I think the EVO looks great), and I like Sense better than Touchwiz, but it's purely a matter of preference; they're both great phones.

Anyway, I wouldn't expect the new Nexus to be a huge step up in specs from what's available now. The Nexus S was basically a somewhat updated Galaxy S, and the Galaxy Nexus was the Galaxy S2 with a better screen and way worse camera. If having the latest Android version is important, by all means wait for the Nexus, but the past two Nexus phones have not been bleeding-edge devices in terms of specs aside from the Galaxy Nexus display.

In my opinion, the transition to 720 screens is the last major Android phone upgrade that's going to matter for a while. I think either the GS3 or Evo4GLTE is plenty future-proofed for now.

Also, yes, the Apple/Samsung verdict did not involve the GS3.

Does anyone know if there is a way to get the kindle app to work in a landscape orientation specifically on the Nexus 7?

Its possible rotation is disabled on tablets (I dont have a tablet so I dont know), but on my phone theres a lock I can click in the lower right corner that will prevent the app from rotating when I move my phone around, maybe the tablet version has the same thing?

I couldnt imagine them disabling that for tablets since its such a nice feature to have.

For some reason I suddenly became able to download several aps on my tablet that I could not before, such as facebook.

    I am not displeased.

Im planning on getting the S3 today as an upgrade to my G2 (battery cover was shit and it is only held on by tape and any movement causes it to turn off). Are there any computer applications that allow me to transfer everything from one phone to the other, or am I better off going to T-Mobile and asking them to do it?

Also, the major reason I have a G2 is that I loved the G1 and sliding keyboards.... how major of a change is using a completely screen based one and is the S3's any good?

It looks like it does not have anything like that. However it seems like this is only a problem with comics. I downloaded a regular free ebook and it auto-rotated fine but the graphic novel I had only stuck to the portrait orientation.

I tried making the switch, and it didn't work out for me. I just really like the tactile feedback from a real keyboard. I jumped from a G1 to an iPhone 4, but because I hated on-screen typing so much, went to an EVO Shift 4G and now use a Droid 4.

That said, practically everyone is fine typing on a screen after a while, and the nice thing about Android is that there are so many software keyboards to choose from. With the SGS3's huge screen, I'm sure you'll be fine in no time.

  • emp123emp123 Registered User regular
I leave/turn on the tactile feedback as I dont really care for typing without it. With a vibration is like Im typing on a future keyboard, without the vibration its like Im pecking at glass.

The S IIIs stock keyboard isnt bad, it has Swype functionality but I think Swype is a better swype-ish keyboard. Its not bad to type on but it isnt predictive, itll just spell check. My sister uses the stock keyboard and I havent heard her complain.

For what its worth, I use SwiftKey.

The verdict did not, but they just added it to the lawsuit against the Nexus along with the Note and Note 10.

At issue here are eight of Apple's utility patents that it says Samsung has infringed upon. The headliner patents at issue are '721 which covers slide to unlock, and '604, which could apply to the universal search feature Samsung has been pulling from its phones recently. Another familiar entry is the '647 patent Apple slapped HTC with in 2010, which has a vague description but applies to clicking on a phone number in an email, for example, to call it.

Seems like a great phone, just taking time to get used to it. Getting all my old apps is going to be a pain though.

Edit: And this keyboard is going to take a long time too. Going to have to download one of those keyboard apps you mentioned to make this better. Isn't half bad though.

Any other proud Nexus 7 owners want to recommend a case? My eyes are glazing over looking at the proliferation currently available on Amazon. Currently leaning towards this though as it seems to be the only one with a stand that can switch between portrait and landscape modes.

Anyone else used the Onavo Extend app? Routes your internet through a VPN service to compress data. Seems nice so far, although the image compression is kinda harsh. But, for a free app, I can't complain too much!

I know they also have a data monitoring app available, but I keep forgetting to try it out. >.>

I have a question. I was just at Walmart and I noticed that they had the Galaxy S2 in the tmobile prepaid section for $299. They ALSO had it in the contract section for $550. Is their any difference? What's keeping me from buying it for $299 and popping my sim card in it and using it as a contract phone?

    I have this one:

I like it well enough for the price. It's basically just a smaller version of the case I have for my iPad, so I was already aware that I liked that style of case. Not sure what you mean by "stand for portrait mode". I can stand mine up in portrait mode if I'd like, though it was obviously meant for landscape.

I can't really see much of a need for a portrait stand, but mine would do it if I wanted it to.

By stand in portrait mode, I mean...function as a stand in portrait orientation.

As can be easily seen in the picture for the case I linked to in my post.

Or this one, which is the one I think I am going to get.

    rooCase-Nexus-7.jpg

Not sure why that's hard to understand?

I have experimented with enabling homescreen landscape mode through rooting and various launchers, but in the end I've concluded that I like portrait homescreen just fine, especially since I use a lot of widgets. Landscape is fine when you just have a sea of app icons, but when you have the whole screen tiled with custom-resized widgets, not so much.

I have the same case for my Tab 7.2, its pretty sweet. I use the portrait orientation stand for reading e-books a lot when flying.

Ok. So I bought a Nexus 7 and it is next to impossible to post on the forums with it. When text goes past the starting box it doesn't expand to show what's being typed. I can't scroll through text when it's below that line either. Sometimes the text will be behind the keyboard and I can't make it show up.

I'm not rooted and I'm honestly not interested in rooting. I'm not using the mobile version of the forums. Is this just something I need to deal with?

The best I can tell is that it's just the Javascript not behaving nicely on mobile Chrome or with the on-screen keyboard. Not really anything to be done.

Man, it'd been so long since I'd actually needed to root my GS2 that I'd forgotten how. There were many bootloops and just random shutting off before I got it right. Flashed to a JB rom and all my problems (It wouldn't constantly disconnect while attached to a computer via USB) seem to be fixed and everything is running smoothly. I doubt I'll flash to any Sammy JB rom if it ever gets released because they're just so so bloated.

Lawl, nope. The same problem persisted on that newly flashed ROM. I'm assuming it's the ROM's fault. Stock ICS it is!

Tried installing various JB roms on my GS3 because I dislike touchwiz. They are all way to buggy, cameras not working, battery drains like no tomorrow, phone became hot to touch, lost signal, etc. Anyone know of a good stock JB or ICS rom for Verizon GS3? Thinking I might have to wait a few months for the bugs to be worked out.

I've just been watching a bit around on XDA occasionally, but until CM10 updates with Samsung's official JB ROM I don't know if it's really worth it. It's my (possibly incorrect!) understanding that they were waiting for updated software coming from Samsung to get everything 100% perfect. *shrug*

I think the Transformer has an ICS update available, so it shouldn't be a problem. If nothing else, it is pretty well supported 3rd-party so you would probably be able to install CM9 or CM10 without any serious issues.

The blurex case GnomeTank linked above is what I have on my Nexus 7, and I can attest that it does protect the device (dropped it out of my coat pocket at PAX, landed on a corner with no noticeable damage). 2 notches in the front cover for 2 different landscape viewing angles.

@DkKingly, you could always just go back to stock and then run Apex Launcher overtop of it. Touchwiz blows, but Apex basically makes it stock ICS.
