The lack of wrist bands is a little disappointing. You spend the AM queued up to get into the key note, then you'll have to start queuing up at 4 if you want to get into an 8:30 concert? If your in a tournament Saturday, your missing the concerts.
Are they going to give out tickets/bands after 4, or will we be expected to stay in line the whole time?

You'll have to stay in line. Sucks, but that's the way it is. They will be streaming the concerts in another room though.

Based on the # of people they can fit into this concert venue, and considering the concert attendance at last year's PAX East, I think it is a pretty safe bet to say you are going to be able to just walk right in and out of the concerts this weekend. You only need to sacrifice your whole evening for a line-up if you MUST be all the way in the front row. If so, that is a luxury, and with it comes sacrifices.
We're planning on hitting up the Saturday concerts, so I'm going to see what happens Friday and base my Saturday afternoon plans off of that.
I read somewhere that they never hit capacity last year and people could just walk in and out.
That said, if you want to be up front, queue up. Otherwise, you may not have to arrive as early.
Last year wasn't completely sold out, was it?
Badge wise, yeah they sold out completely. If I'm not mistaken, I'm pretty sure the theatre at Hynes was actually a higher capacity than the one at the BCEC. I might make the suggestion of lining up semi early for the concerts just to be on the safe side.

The halls are of similar size but without the balcony for seating.

Yes but to my knowledge, the fire marshall rated capacity might be lower.
Just based on the official information on the convention center website, this year's theater will accommodate slightly more people. They claim last year's auditorium holds 4284, and this year's holds 5000. Who knows how accurate these numbers are, and how they'll configure the rooms, but it doesn't look like we need to fear the new theater being smaller.
Has anyone heard attendance figures this year, though? It's a bigger venue, so they must have sold more badges. The new theater is likely smaller when viewed as a percentage of attendees.
