When a Thresher Maw comes out of the ground and attacks the Reaper. The Thresher gets the upper hand by coiling itself around the Reaper, then drags it underground. It gets quiet, and seems to be over, then laser fire begins erupting from the ground, and Shepard decides this is a good place not to be. It then trails off into a description of how everything is so much bigger than the previous games.
holy shit
The only thing that would make this more awesome is if Wrex was riding on the Thresher Maw's back.
I practically spent most of the 2nd game defending them because I was honestly lead to believe that despite their less-than-ideal way of handling things, they were adamant about eliminating the Reaper threat, and ultimately were the only group to have the sufficient funds and weaponry to take them out. Sort of a "we're all in this together" kind of thing.
But nope. Turns out they're just assholes.
Also, if Ashley is an indication of how much "bigger" everything's going to be in ME3, then Tali's going to need a new suit, lest her new upgrades tear a hole through her chest fabric.
I'm going to take a guess here that how you treated Jacob and Miranda will determine who will side with you, and who will stay with Cerberus and will go gunning for you (and you'll have to kill them).

What I want to know is if you kept the council alive, can you immediately, immediately, after getting to the Normandy go straight to the Turian Councilman's house and yell "I FUCKING TOLD YOU SO.", and then break into a twelve minute song and dance number about how wrong he was, while forcing him to write a hand-written note of apology for each the billions of dead humans and trillions of dead sapients he did nothing, nothing you pompous fucking ass, to help?
Because that's what I want.
Also everything else mentioned so far were all things I wanted, seriously, it sounds perfect so far.

I don't believe so.
Jacob and Miranda side with you at the end of ME2 if you blow up the base no matter what.
Anyway, the real thing that upsets me is the part about Cerberus wanting Shepard dead.
I was really hoping they would keep Cerberus and TIM as a purely grey area, letting you draw your own conclusions.
But nope, they just have to be the evil organization all along because that sort of thing seems to really frighten the audience.
Probably means even less fleshed-out Paragon/Renegade options.
But seriously, I expect Cerberus to be as ham handedly, snively whiplash mustache twirlingly evil, with you forced to fight them at first sight, as you were forced to follow TIM's every whim and never given a chance to respond to any of the 100% true accusations against them in ME2
And blah, I'm even less coherent than usual today.
Actually, I really liked Ashley, too. Even if you didn't like what she had to say - though if you actually talked to her you could really change her opinions - she had the most back-story and character of any of your party members in the first game. That didn't mean the others weren't interesting, but they were a bit flat. Heck, Tali was a walking encyclopedia of her people and little else. Ashley's and Kaidan's reactions in the second game were a bit jarring, but I kind of blame that on the writers trying to come up with a reason why we couldn't have them in our party. They came up with a poor one.
Either way, I'm interested to see her character again in Mass Effect 3.

Cerberus killed Shepard's squad, tortured a friend, or at least acquaintance of hers for years, and spent the whole game mustache twirling. They're definitely not nice people at all.
My "Canon" 360 run had me romancing Ashley to begin with, so it should be interesting to play through it in 3... Too bad I won't be in country by my XBox when this comes out. I'll probably be rebuying ME1/2 + DLC for PC so I can play them in prep for ME3.
Also, Fuck GI. The month after my sub runs out they get a decent exclusive...
I bet James gets introduced in the Mass Effect: Deception novel.

I wonder if this is the same James that Ashley references in this email:
From: Ashley Williams (ashley.m.williams@edenprime.mil.sa)

Subject: Re: Hey sis
James left today. He's been reassigned to one of the new Rapid Response Bases out in the Kepler Verge. Lucky bastard. It's like the ancient west out there — pirates and slavers coming out of the Terminus Systems all the time. He gets to play the cavalry, riding out in frigates any time someone's house gets burned down.
I made some speech about how he was a valuable asset to the squad and he better make us look good out there, blah blah. I suck at speeches. I was cribbing from something I read back in history class. I don't think anyone noticed.
I'm going to miss him. Don't tell anyone.
So you think James is cute, eh? Yeah, well, when you said I should "go for him" — not gonna happen, kiddo. See, we have rules about "fraternization". You don't do The Deed with your fellow troops, especially if they're under you in rank. There's all sorts of problems that can happen when two people in the same unit get together.
Let's say your unit is in a tight spot. Some bug-eyed aliens are going to overrun the galaxy. They eat babies, smell bad, and don't have elbows. Nasty. You're told to guard the rear. To let everyone else escape, someone is ordered "hold this spot until we're gone." Someone has to be left behind. You think it's going to be someone you're sleeping with?
I've served with these guys for eight months now. Yeah, some of them make me feel tingly (and yeah, James was kinda scruffy-cute). I hope I never have to decide who lives and who dies. But if I have to, my decision can't be muddled up by magic-sparkly-hearts-and-stars feelings.
Anyways, I'm gonna knock off here. I've got dog watch in a few hours. Want to get a shower and a meal before then. Talk to you tomorrow.

Heh, same here on the GI sub.
And yes, I think I have to make a Ashley romance run now that I know the character returns in ME3. Already have one for Kaiden (that I need to finish).
Because Cerberus really did do something about the Collectors when everybody else just sorta shrugged. They are completely morally bankrupt, no argument there, but every once in a while they do something that benefits mankind or the universe as a whole.
Mwahaha, I knew staying faithful to Ashley would pay off.
Unfortunately, it looks like my GI subscription is a month behind, as I only got the Saints Row 3 issue last week. Damn, the one issue I want, and I gotta wait 3 weeks....
Don't know if this has been flagged up, but just want to say - GI says Garrus, Liara and Kaiden/Ash are playable "to an extent" - which seems to indicate that not all of them, if any of them, will be proper squad members.
Well for lack of anything better to do and because I really wanted to play some Mass Effect I just did a failshep run with this stunningly beautiful character:
Finished it in 4 and a half hours and succeeded in losing everyone.
It was fun.

This is taking me back to the PS1 days
Zombies get dull if you don't mix it up.
Why I fear the ocean.
That being said I'm sure there are plenty of Batarians out there too stupid to recognize their own impending doom...and the Reaper invasion.
Depending on the trial result, there [strike]might[/strike] will be a lot of angry batarians.

That being said..."ALL ABROAD THE ME3 HYPETRAIN! CHO CHO!!"
The only thing that would make this more awesome is if Wrex was riding on the Thresher Maw's back.
Why? Why, goddammit? Is it a Bioware rule to always have an unlikeable female party member in their games?
Why the hell would anyone be happy to see this alien hating bi-

You destroyed the base: Cerberus now hates you for obvious reasons
Gave them the base: Cerberus is indoctrinated and hates you
it's a bit of a cop out but still

Shepard has been exposed to quite a few Reaper dealies...
Maybe he's/she's more dangerous than we all know.
But at the same time...the galaxy's only hope.

Yeah, not so impressed with Ashley "Weather Balloons" Williams. Maybe that's where all the eezo is going; to keep her and Miranda afloat.
